Just finished watching season 3 - A-mazin’
I was all ready to ship the heck out of a certain pair of characters...but then the show went and did it for me!
Might be relevant for those of you watching The Dragon Prince, in case y'all weren't aware.
Rats. That's not good.
Gah! Why must cis men in positions of power ruin everything they touch!
^ Surely you can express your dismay at this situation without resorting to hate speech.
Where's the hate speech?
Gah! Why must cis men in positions of power ruin everything they touch!
That's neither abusive nor threatening. More like a statement of fact at this point.
If you don't see anything abusive or expressive of prejudice about declaring that a group, by virtue of their gender and sexual orientation, "ruin everything they touch," then I don't think we're going to have a very productive conversation.
#notallmen is never a productive conversation
Hey I can play that game too...

Hate speech is aimed at socially marginalized and oppressed peoples. White dudes in power ain't it, chief..

Hate speech is itself a form of marginalization. Defining it such that it only applies to marginalized peoples is a tautology.

I just rolled my eyes so hard I'm going to need an optometrist. That statement is ridiculous. Calling out cis dudes isn't hate speech, and it isn't oppression. Get your head out of your ass. If you want to discuss this take it to the men talking to men about Feminism thread.

Incorrect.
The tone of your statement is not what I object to, but the content.
Calling out cis dudes isn't hate speech, and it isn't oppression.
"Calling out" anyone on the basis of their actions is different from calling them out on the basis of their race and gender orientation / identity.

Great, pyx might have made a generalization but it still wasn't wasn't hate speech or oppression. And seriously lets take this elsewhere. Start your own D&D thread or the Men Talking to Men about Feminism.

Move on and let's get back to cartoons. Any further conversations in this vein in this thread will be deleted. Thanks!
hbi2k, it's not hate speech. You seem to not be seeing a key thrust of her statement (note, specifically, the "in positions of power" part) in order to take umbrage with cis and male parts of the statement. All three are key to her point, and missing some of those things means you're missing all of it. I hope this is an opportunity to reflect on why that might be.
NathanielG, it's not okay to attack people personally on our forums (heads, asses, etc) no matter how much you disagree. Please don't do it again.
I finally had a chance to finish She-Ra season 4. It was a bit slow to get into (which is why I ended up putting it off until now) and the middle had some pretty cringy scenes but wow was the second half a roller coaster!
Oy. I thought the wait between seasons 3 and 4 was going to be tough. That was NOTHING like what the wait from 4 to 5 is going to be like!
I really need to pick up She-Ra again. Dropped off after the first season. Meant to watch it in recovery and never got around to it and now my PS4 is elsewhere for a bit. I'll have to try slowly metering it out so I'm not dealing with the jonesing like you are
Yeah, it's pretty silly and ultra-violent. Seems good so far.
"I told you to get a CostCo card."
"And I told you I only go there once a year so it doesn't pay for itself, chief!"I lol'd
They retconned Harley and Ivy to being "just friends" so....nah. I'll pass.
Oh man, I just finished Dragon Prince season 3. I _really_ wanted to savor this one so I took my time and spread it out over a week or so (unlike my daughter who binged it in one afternoon/evening and kept pestering me about when I would finish it!)
I took a break for a little while right after the end of episode 5 to savor it. Quite honestly, if that was the end of the series, I would have been okay with it right then and there. I kept worrying that there might be some anime-esque twist which would shatter all that, but boy, am I glad that I pressed forward (like I'd be able to not keep watching!)
I can honestly say that I cannot remember having watched an animated series as compelling and engaging as this one. All of the threads of the story came together so smoothly and seamlessly at the ending to create a final scene that was, quite frankly, and emotional triumph. I haven't felt this good after finishing a piece of fiction in decades. I swear it brought me back to my childhood when I first discovered sci-fi and fantasy novels and would spend hours lost in their grip.
This show could very easily have descended into a dark place reminiscent of Game of Thrones but it never did. Even at the darkest points, it had a way of breaking it to you gently and then lightly carrying you on to the next thing. Even in some of the most tense and grim moments, the show had ways of giving you that bit of hope
I'm looking at you, weaponized jelly tarts
I'd say the only mild criticism that I have is that season 3 just went by too quickly (well, that and maybe 1-2 brief overly-silly moments). The world is so rich and interesting that the writers could spent at least another season getting to this point it if they had the time and resources and the story wouldn't have suffered in the least. Ah well. Best to end on such a high note and leave the audience craving for more!
I just discovered this: https://www.amazon.com/Book-One-Moon... which should come out in May of next year. That's definitely going on my wish list!
