That which has been seen/Vasectomy Snip-all

You just need to appease her.

I wish there were more pea puns.

The few I can think of are sure snap-pea though!

It gets pretty hot in my computer room when the GPU is working. Why didn't I think of the frozen pea technique before? Thank you, gentlemen.

My CPU temps are getting too high, quick, kick me in the nads!

Fetishes are getting weirder by the minute.

Tsk. Peas-poor attempt, dude.

A re-peat Serengeti? Tsk tsk. Well, at least the responses were peas-ful.

My SO is a urology nurse at a practice that does a ton of these. A few days ago they had what was supposed to be a routine 15 minute vasectomy turn into a 2 hour ordeal. Something about not being able to find the "cords"...

Just one of the many dangers of our SOs keeping their ("cords'") attachments in their purses.

Getting mine done Monday after next. Chose that date so that my wife’s mother-in-law would be in town to help her out during my recovery period. She’s coming for the Thanksgiving holiday and will be with us a few days after my surgery.

But it will be just my wife, and me, for a couple of days after my surgery. Our two kids are age 7 and nine. Should I expect to spend those days completely in bed?

I walked out of my surgery and back to work, no additional rest required, and I used none of the pain pills they gave me, just a bit of ibuprofen. Even if you end up worse off than me, I don't see why you would be spending any more time than usual in bed.

I doubt it? I spent the day of sitting in an armchair with an ice-pack, and was up and about doing my normal business the following day, albeit a little sore. Had mine done on a Friday, so I wasn't back at work until the Monday, and I have a desk jockey job anyway, so that didn't pose any kind of physical challenge.

Plan to not be picking your kids physically up for a few days, and keep reminding them to be careful around Dad.

Ham it up and get some sympathy but honestly it wasn't that bad.

Expect bruising. The worst you have ever seen.

I had a no-scalpel procedure done, so in my experience I'd say a solid 24 hours of rest. Not necessarily all in bed, but I would minimize movement. Immediately after the procedure I definitely felt best lying down.

Wear briefs, and be extra careful when you move and sit. No heavy lifting -- don't be like me and try to shovel snow or pick up your kids even a few days after the procedure (fascinating how all the parts of the body are connected).

The bag of frozen peas isn't a joke, they really do help numb the pain a bit. When they're no longer needed, feed them to your local brood of ducks.

I will second the frozen peas. Two bags, just in case you forget to put one back in the freezer.

Will there be an email about this?

Yeah, I agree on the frozen peas, live saver, especially the day of. I overdid it the day after the procedure because the kids had some nature walk planned, so I joined them. Bad move and the bruising got worse as a result. Know your limits

That was 18 years ago. Never looked back. Only awesomeness.

And our next email is from jrralls, it says: 'Dear GWJ, I have a snippage coming up soon and wanted your advice...'

"This week's Thread of the Week is ... uhh, never mind."

I’m a runner. I usually jog 5 miles five times a week. How long afterwards until I can get back into my regular running routine?

I am in utter shock that I've been a part of this forum long enough for me to start participating in this thread.

It seems like the only consistent thing is that everyone's recovery is inconsistent. I know guys that've been up and running the day after.

I was fine the day of and the day after, no pain, no issues. But three days after I got really sore and the heavy bruises, that's when I started needing pain pills.

A while. Frankly, your balls will hang differently when you are through and it will take a while for it to feel comfortable jogging. Probably a month to 6 weeks.

I was back running shorter distances within a couple weeks. A month or so until I was able to run longer distances without. Basically start out slow and listen to your nuts when they tell you to stop.

I don't think I had to wait nearly that long. I think I was back running within a week but can't remember for sure. I know it wasn't that long because I really feel guilty when not running for just a few days when I have a cold or something over the years since I run 5 days a week. I feel like I would have remembered if I didn't run for a month or even just two weeks. Granted, the procedure for me went super smoothly, I was able to hobble around okay and just get by on ibuprofen for a couple days. Definitely ask the doctor on that. I believe they gave me a window of time not to run when I asked. Unfortunately, I don't have any documentation how long I had to wait, so it's possible I did have to wait a month.

Enjoy laying in bed for a couple days playing some video games!
