Minecraft

The official Bedrock Server wiki says the Switch version doesn’t support connecting to a local dedicated server. That’s unfortunate. I wonder if that is going to change in the future.

When you associate an Xbox account with Minecraft on the Switch does it associate the Xbox account with a single Switch user or all users on the system? I hope it’s per user but I don’t want to assume.

Yea I looked into it a while back and it was basically LAN only for most of the platforms to work together. If they ever get it worked out I would like to setup a server for my nieces and nephews and I to play on together. But it needs to work on iOS, Switch, Xbox, PC, and Mac (which doesn't even have a Bedrock edition client from the looks of it).

As far as I can tell the only way to have Switch play on the same dedicated server as Xbox/iOS/PC is if you pay for a Realm but at least people can play from anywhere that way. No Bedrock for Mac yet.

If they add LAN dedicated server support to the Switch version I’d seriously consider using that instead of my PC.

Pretty sure I've been able to play with someone on switch with a direct connection.

Definitely able to play on realms together. It's basically flawless.

Couldn't you dosbox a mac or something and play as "pc"?

Not sure you can run a Windows 10 UWP app that way can you?

I have Windows 10 Bootcamp installed on my Mac laptop already but I doubt that is worth the effort for others who just want Minecraft.

Yea I am not going to try to teach my under ten year old nieces and nephew at my brothers house how to run Minecraft in a VM or with Bootcamp on the family iMac. It would be nice if we could all play together on a self hosted server because I have an always on server PC that is pretty good that currently isn't being used for much other than file server and Plex server. Might not have the internet to support it though.

I'm not sure how fun it would be to play RLCraft (it looks pretty frustrating to play actually) but I am enjoying watching someone else play it:

Anybody try the ARG yet?

Minecraft Earth

I'm in, but the game times out every time I try and build.

ooooo!!

I watched that Forge Labs serious recently. Looks like a fun adventuring time but obviously a lot of death is involved.

I've been playing a lot of vanilla survival Minecraft the last few weeks. Just built a nice house that has a lot of details which is much better then the stone rectangle I used to build. I'm almost out of the full stack of bread I "borrowed" from a bunch of villagers so I'm trying to build a cow crusher this evening.

I did not see Minecraft Earth in the iOS store yet.

edit: I guess it is there today!

My wife and daughter love the building part but my son and I are all about adventures. Been collecting nether stuff And hunting Ender men so I can find a portal to the Ender. This is all new to me but I have it in my head that I’m going to beat that dragon soon. Going on lots of fun adventures along the way tho.

I have a feeling Minecraft Dungeons is going to appeal to my son. Looks like it’s going to be on Xbox Game Pass which is great news for me.

My daughter is excited about Minecraft Earth but it keeps crashing so we’re waiting for it to get some updates before we play more.

I also would rather do more adventuring but vanilla does get a lot repetitive in that aspect.

I wonder if Minecraft Dungeons is an admission that they never plan to make adventuring more of a thing in vanilla. It looks like it could be a lot of fun to play with my son.

Hello Gwjers

My son i very into Minecraft and im making him a gaming PC for Christmas. The thing is the whole modding and different versions thing is making me confused.

My son is 6 and watches a bunch of minecraft-channels on youtube, he often asks me to help him get a specific mod etc but on the Nintendo Switch alot of things are missing it seems.

Any advice on how to setup things for him on the new PC so he can play most or all of the stuff he wants to try? Beginners guides, which version/s i should install etc etc.

Thanks, Joakim

I think you’re probably looking for Minecraft Java Edition. If you could link an example video of one your son was asking for, we can confirm.

Also, feel free to join us on the Modded Minecraft thread (linked in my signature) or on the GWJ Discord in the #moddedminecraft channel.

Minecraft Dungeons is too Diablo for me. There is a MMORPG Minecraft server that is cool that is free to play on that might interest you and your son @panda

So I built a big open fenced in for animals since my oldest grand daughter loves catching horses. The issue is all the horses in the pen just sit staring in one corner. What's the issue?

I've never understood the weird animal corner crowding tendencies in Minecraft!

My cows are doing the same thing

Supposedly if you don't use a fence piece in the corner it won't happen. Try a two high block of cobblestone for your corners.

Are they all facing north by chance?

Who knows? I thought compasses just pointed to the initial spawn point.

The first time my daughter made some snow golems in her house they all went to the same corner and stared at the floor and we were confused for a bit until we realized there was a creeper in a cave under her house

A couple weeks ago I made a cow crusher I saw on a Youtube video. The whole deal is supposedly only 24 entities can exist in a 1by1 block. So you start with a couple cows in that block and feed them and they have babies and when you start getting >24, the oldest ones die and their leather and meat drop into a hopper then a chest.

So I tested the contraption and stuff made it down to the chest from the top. I got a couple of cows in there and fed them. I know they were having babies cause I would get the breeding xp and that block was getting full but nothing was dropping into the chest. I tested it by dropping stuff into the block with the cows and it would make it down into the chest.

So last night I just figured I would let the cows out and her them into some corrals. Of course, I fell into the 1v1 block. The screen went a bit wacko cause I was in a 1by1 block with a bunch of cows. So I just started swinging my sword to clear them out. I went through 2 iron swords and there were still a lot of cows in the block. I then had to use every tool I had because there were so many cows I could not hit any blocks to escape. After finally going through the 2 swords and 6 tools I broke a block and jumped out. The building and corral were filled with cows. After herding around 60+ cows into corrals I killed the rest.

It netted me 14 stacks of cow beef. So there were hundreds of cows in that block. There was HUNDREDS of cows in this 1by1 block area!

I tried to make this sort of farm in Bedrock edition recently and no matter how many cows there were nothing fell into the hopper and it seemed like no cows ever died automatically so I’m not sure that 24 limit really exists. I still use the farm as is but I stand on the wall and manually kill a bunch of the cows before I start breeding new ones. More manual than I hoped but still sorta works.

I’ve made some auto farms using red stone and observers that work for plants like sugarcane and pumpkins but I haven’t figured out an auto farm for animal meat/leather yet.

Hmm yeah this was in Windows edition I wonder if it works in Java? I know there are some slight differences in all these PC versions.

We're introducing bees to Minecraft because wasps and locusts didn't test as well.

Hey, i'm trying to set up a MC server to play with my niece to provide some remote childminding to my sis. Could anyone point me in the direction of how i would set up a small server for 4 people max and what i need. Don't mind paying a bit to make it easier on myself! Thanks:)
