My favorite moment on this week's Beastcast was when Jeff mentioned that Microsoft announced they're making an Android phone, Dan started to cut in with "wait, but isn't Android Google...?" and Jeff was just like NO DAN, WE'RE NOT DOING THIS and moved past it. Perfection.

Jeff's and Alex's exhaustion with Dan's shtick is becoming my favorite bit. Dan sucks.

But Dan's confusion on this one isn't even surprising or unusual. When the announcement was made, the entire gadget geek community did a collective "Wha...!?" as well.

I think it has more to do with the history that the team gets tired of explaining things to Dan. I won’t purport to knowing anything about Android or Google. But I can tell everyone gets tired of the circular conversations they get into with him. So it’s probably less the subject matter than having to do it 4-5 times per episode. With that said, the two members I find the most annoying, Ben and Dan make my favorite (free) video of the whole company. Get on My Level I find endlessly entertaining.

It was a callback bit, he'd already done the absurd confusion around the idea that Google could create software that others could use and yet Google could also create hardware running that software in a previous beastcast. And I refuse to believe that Dan's that f*cking stupid, so it's just another bit.

Honestly, hearing about Dan's pranking on the latest one definitely convinces me I'd hate to have him as a co-worker.

That's part of the problem, that bit is annoying and not funny. Especially when he starts yelling. The whole podcast could do with less yelling.

It’s more amazing to me that he felt okay telling people he currently works with that when he worked as a supervisor at AMC he just stole food in the supply closet taking a break in the supply freezer. It makes me upset that he’s alright with yelling that to who knows how many people, while so many people are busting their humps and not making nearly as much as he is or even employed.

He was teenager in that story.

So you're saying that not only is his routine tedious, it's also more than a decade out of date?

The Beastcast has been pretty dull without Abby. She does a great job moving the convo past the inane bullsh*t the rest of the cast gets stuck on.

So Dan's comment this week about how he may have underrated Red Dead 2 means that he really did not like Death Stranding, right? He was clearly juxtaposing that with his embargoed views on DS. I suppose it could have been more like "now that I like DS and acknowledge it has things in common with RDR2, I suppose I didn't give RDR2 enough credit," but I'm pretty sure he means he hated Death Stranding. Will be interesting to hear more.

My guess is the latter; he loves death stranding but it also has all the bullsh*t he Female Doggoed about RDR2 for having, so he's hedging to seem less hypocritical/have a leg to stand on when he pushes for it to be on the GOTY list despite having the same flaws he tried to use to get RDR2 off of the GOTY list.

I read that conversation as Bakalar doesn’t like Death Stranding and Dan is trying to prove a point somehow. He’s a terrible debater with no logical consistency so this could also be about Doritos or something.

I'm betting he doesn't like DS at all. His comment about how much time he's spending playing Doraemon despite other high profile Autumn games that are out (during that game's QL) makes me think he is not enjoying Death Stranding.

Yeah, my money is on Dan saying he hated it and it made RDR2 look good by comparison--"at least I got to shoot some guys!" Only one way to find out! I hear the Death Stranding embargo is 11/1, so we've got a bit of a wait, but we'll find out soon enough.

It's quick and easy to miss, but in the same episode, Jeff asks "Who isn't playing Death Stranding right now?" and Dan responds with the type of groan that makes Jeff laugh. Either he hates the game or he's playing up a fake character to make it seem that way.

Next up, "I never liked Metal Gear Solid, and never said I did."

Now that he knows it is a political game, he doesn't like it because of all the politics.

Massive car wreck of material this morning, but Brad assured that there was a Vinny rant for the ages regarding Death Stranding, and he was correct.

Ooh, wherezzat?

Today's Beastcast

The not-a-quicklook quicklook of Death Stranding is a fun watch. Jeff seems pretty down on this game, which is probably fair. The game looks like Kojima had an AI make a game about being a human and this is what it came up with.

Interestingly I've only read the Kotaku piece which was very positive and made me want to play it.

Here’s a summary of the entire crew’s feelings and impressions.

Jeff and Dan both despise it while Vinny, Ben, Alex, and Brad are cold on it. Ben and Brad stopped playing while Alex and Vinny completed. Neither Brad nor Ben are going to to go back to it. All feel like it didn’t respect your time, is paced insanely poorly, has nothing to say, and is a terrible story. The combat is a nuisance and is bad. The entire game is system built on system with the profession being how it minimizes the systems. The ones who are more positive on the game appreciated that it’s trying to do something very different, the community aspect works quite well, it’s pretty well acted, and there’s a chapter or two where everything clicks.

Danny O'Dwyer has a spoiler free review that is pretty interesting. It kind of makes sense the GB folks weren't thrilled by it after hearing his opinions (Danny does appear to like - or at least appreciate - the game).

That looks fascinating. Can't wait for a PC release.

Based on what I've heard and seen, I can't possibly imagine a less Dan game than this. It's like his hero made this thing specifically to troll Dan. Amazing.

I wish I could peer into another universe and see what the reaction would be like if it wasn't a Kojima game because I feel like without knowing that going in, many people wouldn't give it as much time to let it capture you or give it the benefit of the doubt. This is another one of those games where everyone on gaming sites have very mixed opinions on their podcasts and even those positive on it are couching their defence with major caveats, and yet the actually scored reviews are overwhelmingly glowing.

As always I respect those who state "I don't like this game" while giving the side-eye to those who state "This is a bad game".

I'm up to episode 15 of the Shenmue: Endurance run. It's like watching a multi vehicle pile up. Somehow fascinating despite the carnage.
