The Witcher 3 Catch-All

Is there anyway to play Gwent in real life?

Video games are real life jrralls

CDPR released some physical decks back when Blood & Wine came out. I think they were pretty limited and I don't really know how playable they really are. There are definitely homemade sets out there on sites like ebay and Etsy, but of course who knows what quality.

Frankly the game is just not really balanced or deep enough to work as a real game. The slow trickle of powerful cards was the only reason the game as it was designed in the Witcher 3 worked at any level.

(I'm not really knocking the game as it exists in W3. It's definitely the most fun of the side activities. It sure beats horse racing and brawling! It's just not mechanically robust enough to work outside the constraints of the video game)

I never even tried. I was there to stab monsters in the face, not play cards.

The only flaw in the game is that the monsters don't play Gwent.

Please say you're not doing that on Switch?

Erm.... what would be the alternative in that situation?

Totally doing it on a Switch. I have a pretty kick as PC which I almost never play, and Witcher 3 has been sitting on it for three years with only 2 hours (total) ever played on it. For the most part, if don’t game on the Switch, I don’t game.

I'd think playing Witcher 3 (mobile) on the Switch would be AWESOME!

I bought some sound canceling headphones to use on the airplane but it looks like O can’t use it on the Switch?

Are they Bluetooth? Those don't work on Switch without a USB adapter.
Or... do you mean the noise-canceling is not working when connected to the Switch? The hardware is all contained in the headphones so if that's the case , that's weird.

Pick up one of these: USB-C Bluetooth adapter for Switch.

Oof. I feel dumb. I thought that was real for a moment. Figured he must be using some kind of special adaptive controller. Was actually more surprised he'd be playing it at his age than paralyzed. Only got suspicious when it said he was playing on Death March difficulty.

Just a quick heads up that The Witcher 3 has been selected as the GWJ CRPG Game #9. Anyone is welcome to join us and play along. If you haven't played The Witcher 3 yet, or would like to play it again with a group, or just want to follow along, come join us!

According to Engadget: 'The Witcher 3' is now more popular on Steam than it was at launch

By "popular" they mean the game recently had its highest number of concurrent users.

Looking for some opinions.

I played through TW3 back when it launched on PS4 and skipped all the free and paid DLC afterward because I had moved onto other games. I quite liked TW3, which was a pleasant surprise after being disappointed with the second game.

I just finished watching the surprisingly good Netflix series and it’s got me wanting to play again. I only really get to play my Switch anymore and I’ve done my research and I don’t mind the large performance hit. All the DLC is included.

With that said, I’m not particularly interested in playing the entire game before I get to new content. When in the campaign can you access the DLC?

You can access the DLC immediately, actually. You're given the option to jump straight into the DLC with an appropriately leveled Geralt and simulated game state. You can effectively play each one as a standalone experience. It works well, in my opinion.

Ymmv, but I strongly disliked Blood and Wine, the minute I stepped in... Toussaint was it? (That’s a holiday, not a place) the strong faux French French accents were extremely offputting, though I’m told I might’ve fared better with the Polish version. I also might’ve suffered from TW3 fatigue, since I’d played the full game and Hearts of Stone before that.
Again, YMMV.

What? No, it's The Witcher! It's awesome by definition!

Well, I could maybe understa--

Yeah, okay, you definitely outrank me on that one.

Blood and Wine didn't land so well for me either, even without finding the accents bad. I wouldn't know a good one from Inspector Clouseau.

I think I just came to it so late, it was way after it came out, that maybe the game's time had passed for me.

The TV series has given me the hankering to play Witcher 2 not 3.

The accents may sound like faux French, but really they're genuine Touissant!

See and I loved Blood and Wine more than the other DLC.

Yeah, Blood and Wine was effectively a full game's worth of content (although maybe only like a fifth of the content in the core game), and I absolutely loved it

I can totally understand being put off by the accents though!
