2019 MLB Season Catch-All

Lost in six. I believe i went to game 2 and saw Kenny Rogers implode in the 5th or 6th live. I thought my dad and i were going to fight everyone. we were so mad. so f****ng mad. STILL MAD. The Ted was quiet the entire game until that inning.

Watching coverage of the earthquake from here, it seemed like the apocalypse had happened, like the entire city was wrecked.

It certainly wasn't reassuring being a child and watching your parents watching the TV and they're wondering the exact same thing.

That was a helluva finish by Altuve and the Astros. Wow.

Fiddlesticks.

EDIT: AroldisChapmanFace.jpg should be a meme for all eternity, however.

JOSE ALTUVE!

What a series. Postseason baseball really is amazing.

Great series, great last game! Now rooting for the Nationals

Well thats horrifying.. I can't remember the last time I wanted a team to lose so badly.

That is very bad. I always have very mixed feelings about wrapping up this sort of stuff in my rooting interests. I want to say "Ha! See! The other teams are bad guys and thus my team is morally superior!" But a)I think it's diminishing to victims of domestic violence to use their concerns as reasons to say "go team" (and this is distinct from someone like Gameguru, who I gather didn't have any pre-existing love of the Nationals and is just repulsed by this conduct from the Astros, which is fair) and b)I have no confidence that my team isn't capable of the same poor judgment, and can certainly think of a few players over the years who had domestic violence issues. I cannot remember which athlete and team were involved, but I remember seeing a fanbase (Duke men's basketball, maybe?) chanting "NO MEANS NO" derisively at an opposing player during their free throws due to that player having been accused of sexual assault. Obviously it is good to protest such things, but it read to me much more like "let's mess with his head to help us in the game" and not something that came out of genuine concern for victims. Left a real bad taste in my mouth.

In lighter news, this morning, as I dressed my girls up in Nationals gear, I gathered them for a picture and asked "Who's the best team?!?!" and they cheered "the Nationals!" Then, as I am gently introducing them to the subtle art of trash-talking, I asked "And who smell like farts?!?!" to which my 3-year old replied "ME!!!"

It’s one thing to have it happen. I can’t blame the Astros for the conduct of an employee. That is what it is. I blame the organization once it not only fails to take action but goes with the MAGA approved fake news defense. At that point yeah the whole organization should burn.

lol and illustrating my b point, from twitter:

All you folks upset at the Astros are welcome to join the Nats bandwagon — a franchise that hasn’t had a GM resign in the midst of an investigation into him and his colleague’s embezzlement of thousands of dollars of money earmarked for poor Dominican teens in literally years.

I wasn't there, and I'm surprised there isn't video out there already because there is a ton of video from the clubhouse during the postgame celebration, but shouting "I'm so ****ing glad we got Osuna!" seems pretty typical for celebrating a huge win - without further context.

Obviously, the context around what Osuna was accused of is pretty awful, but was that what this was about? What was the conversation before this one possibly normal quote? I'd like more information. I'd really like to see the video.

If the executive in question was really behaving in an unacceptable manner and making female reporters feel threatened, then sure, can his ass. However, there should always be some due process around terminating someone for cause.

In any case, one executive isn't the team. I'm going to continue to cheer for guys like Altuve, Correa, Verlander, Cole, Springer, etc.

He was shouting at three female reporters, one of whom is an outspoken advocate against domestic violence in which he's complained about her tweets.

NEWS: Astros assistant GM Brandon Taubman was targeting a female reporter wearing a purple bracelet on domestic violence.

She has tweeted frequently on DV; he complained about her tweets offering info on DV hotlines when Roberto Osuna appeared in Astros games in 2018. My story:

And he was shouting it after a game in which Osuna blew a save. So, odd time to celebrate the acquisition.

It's been characterized as him supporting Osuna after a difficult outing, which isn't odd at all. I haven't read Vector's article yet, maybe it adds something new.

I just posted a link to a short twitter thread. The only knew information is what I quoted. The reporter has said there will be a story posted soon. Another tweet by the same reporter says the following:

David Folkenflik wrote:

Contrary to the Astros' later claims, witnesses tell NPR there were no players in the immediate vicinity facing questions from reporters. Taubman was not being interviewed at the moment of his tirade, they say; it was not prompted by a question about Osuna.

Nobody should blame the Astros for this one individuals outburst. You should blame the Astro’s for calling it fake news and doubling down on it. Once the organization made an official statement I was done. f*ck that team. Go Expos!!

I'm not defending anyone, I'm just waiting for all the facts to be in. Houston is a big place, I don't know this guy. If he was out of line, the organization or MLB can discipline him accordingly.

The statement by the organization, if inaccurate, would definitely be a bad thing. But I've seen people be falsely accused, I've seen inaccurate reporting, I've even seen convictions overturned. I'm not jumping to conclusions (this time, I'm sure I've been guilty of it in the past!).

In any case, the team wasn't involved. As much as everyone here in Houston appreciates, say, Jeff Luhnow (if they even know who he is), no one is cheering for him or wearing a shirt with his name on it.

Me, I've got my Altuve jersey on, and I'm cheering my ass off for him.

So everyone gets a taco and nothing will top that Buzz Aldrin commercial for YouTube. Nice to get all the extracurriculars out of the way after a half inning.

Is that the fastest free taco in World Series history? What does Statcast say?

OK tie game!

Astros kinda rhymes with assholes. COINCIDENCE? Perhaps.

Go Nationals! HOLD THE LINE

One run game, one inning left, this is fun to watch.

Holy moly, that was an incredible nailbiter as a Nats fan. We had no business winning that game: Scherzer was struggling, they had to get *4* innings out of our dreadful bullpen, and Cole was mostly quite good. Ryan Zimmerman will be the first Nats player to get a statue at the ballpark. Juan Soto is unbelievable. And still, I cannot believe that happened. 3 to go.

For real, though, Scherzer's first 4 innings took YEARS off my life. Letting the first runner on in every inning! How many 3-2 counts? And yet he came out for the 5th and got his first 1-2-3 inning going through the heart of the Astros order. And Strasburg starts tomorrow.

I feel like this can't be said enough. What a performance by a 20 year old.

Nats trying to put their foot on the Astros throats in the first.

Edit: welp. Nevermind

Great start!

Should have taken a nap after the first so I could stay up for the end. Nothing happening the last few innings.
