Xbox One Catch-all

First off, I see that username, and somebody better not be taking my schtick. I HAVE A TRADEMARK.

Anyways, I haven't played a solid ARPG in a while, and almost fired up Diablo 3 recently. Played a little Torchlight 2 last night, and I've probably already gotten $20 worth of fun out of it.

Sorry to infringe. If it helps I don't have a schtick, it's just a handle.

How did they do on the port to console? Just wondering if they did a good job making the controls tight and getting the menus and inventory hassle free.

I LOVED Torchlight on console and was so disappointed when they didn't put Torchlight 2 on console. This news makes me cry out FINALLY!

The gameplay is great, and you map your abilities to different buttons on a pretty easy way, so quite configurable. The menus . . . it's a bit clunky. There's a combo of a radial menu and tabs and it's not perfect, but it works. It still very much feels like Torchlight 2, and the menus don't slow it down too much.

Registered for the project cloud test that is slated for October. We'll see if I get in. Very excited for streaming gaming!

It is a little weird to me that it is Android only at this stage. I expected Windows 10 support first. Truthfully I wish I had it. I have been working extra 2 to 3 nights per week (mainly just being here to support after hours events) and it would be nice if I could play some Borderlands 3 or even just Surviving Mars from work.

I'm having problems with my Xbox One X and I need some advice.

Basically, my Xbox One X doesn't work. I caught it trying to update one day completely stuck. Several reboots later, I did a factory reset. This is actually the second factory reset I've done. The first was a few months ago when the same thing happened. The first time it worked for a while. This time it didn't. Apps were really slow to load if they worked at all. Games wouldn't start. I caught it trying to update again! This time nothing would help. I'm not sure what to do next. Here are some things I've considered:

1) Send it in for repair. This is the most obvious and straightforward thing to do. It is, however, $250! That's much more expensive than I expected. Does anyone know if that includes shipping to them and back? I'm hesitating due t the price.

2) Attempt to replace the hard drive. I suspected this was the problem, mostly because of the odd performance after the last reset. I don't, however, know this is the problem. A replacement will cost <$100 plus the cost of the USB to SATA cable (not sure if I actually need this if I just mount it internally). Does anyone know if this is typically the problem? I guess if it doesn't work, I have another hard drive for my PC (my third!).

3) Just buy a new one. That $250 repair doesn't even count the cost of a new controller. If I wait for some black friday sales, I might even find a decent bundle, although that seems tempered by the fact that I already pay for game pass.

What do you folks think? While I wait, I guess I'll hook up the old Xbox One that I let my son put in his room.

I'd vote against buying a new one. With it likely being about a year until the new Xbox is released, that just seems like a waste. I think I'd go for the hard drive replacement and if that fails, just wait it out.

DIY repair on the Xbox One X is possible but if done wrong might lead to your Xbox or Live account being banned for hacking. They use a special format for the internal drive which is something you can't do with just any drive formatting software. There is a tool to let you do it though. It looks Also you probably want to watch this take apart video before going at it. Doesn't look too bad overall if you are comfortable working inside SFF PCs.

This is a suggestion for the future. It’s not intended as snark. Pay extra for a robust replacement plan. I find that Amazon’s replacement plans are rock bottom cheap and they make good on their promises. Of course that means you have to buy it on Amazon but there are worse things in life...

Did anyone else get a recent email welcoming you to your new Xbox One X console? I got one today but haven't bought a console and still have my One S. It came to my legit xbox email (I use a different email for every company) and when I go into my account and manage devices I don't see anything new. And my Microsoft login history doesn't show anything and all of the links look legit.

I changed my password just to be safe but it seems like a weird bug for Microsoft to send it.

I haven't gotten that, but last night I got booted because someone apparently logged in as me on another Xbox. Except neither of my sons had done so.

Last night my Xbox spontaneously updated it’s firmware. I wonder if that has anything to do with it?

Same thing happened to me on Sunday afternoon.

Holy S~~~. I just read that you can now use X-Box wireless controller on IOS mobile devices. And that a gizmo clip is coming to use on X-Box wireless controller on mobile games. Cool.

I’ve already tried it, works really well and is super easy to pair. It only works on the newer bluetooth-enabled controllers though (any released with the One S or after). You can already get third party clips that are relatively cheap. I think the one I got was like $8.

I may trade in my iPhone for the new MS phone coming out next year. I’m not really a mobile gamer, but, if the phone is solid, it seems like MS is doing some interesting stuff to merge mobile, PC, and console gaming.

Will be interesting to see specs of the new phone, and to see how Xbox Live and xCloud do on iOS. The Switch made me more interested in mobile gaming, but I just don’t play my Switch enough for it to really be as useful as a way to make play my XB1 games on the road.

That Surface Duo does look pretty awesome. I'll be curious to see what the final version looks like.

Amazon is doing a BOGO 3 Month XBox Games Pass Ultimate promotion for $45. Comes out to 7.50 a month for 6 months. Worth it in my opinion.

Got in to xCloud preview. Unfortunately I'm on vacation with no Xbox controller at hand so will have to get home first to try it out. Can't wait!

How do you get this deal?

It was a bit of a pain; amazon sent the promotional code in an email while the paid for code pointed me to the amazon "game center" that had only the paid for code. they also sent the paid for code in an email, but separately from the promotional one. Before I found the promotional code email, I talked to multiple people in their customer service who claimed the offer didn't exist. The nice part was, when I finally got and entered the promotional code, I was offered an additional month if I turned on recurring billing. I decided sure, clicked to turn it on and get the bonus month, then went and turned it right back off.

The promo was towards the bottom on the Amazon website for the three month pass.

Purchase An Xbox One With Xbox All Access For No Upfront Cost; Special Upgrade Offer Available For A Limited Time

Microsoft is bringing back the Xbox All Access offer, but this time there is a special twist: the option to upgrade to Scarlett when it launches.

In order to participate in the upgrade program when Project Scarlett launches in Holiday 2020, players in the U.S. and U.K. will need to be in good standing with the respective financing partner in their market, purchase Project Scarlett with a new Xbox All Access purchase from the same retail partner where they joined the program, and trade-in the console originally purchased with Xbox All Access. Terms and conditions apply, including an upgrade fee for players upgrading from the Xbox One S All-Digital Edition to Project Scarlett.

The deal for Xbox One S All-Digital, S, or X is available in USA on Novemeber 18th, UK on November 5th, and Australia on October 29th. Sorry Canucks looks like y'all are getting left out again.

Edit: Small text on the official site makes it sound like you have to get an Xbox One X to trade up to the Scarlett:

Special Holiday Upgrade Offer: Upgrading to Project Scarlett is subject to its release and availability at the time you upgrade. Upgrade requires at least 12 payments on your original Xbox All Access contract, and purchase of a new 24-month Xbox All Access contract for Project Scarlett, expected Holiday 2020. Offer valid for original purchase of Xbox One X with Xbox All Access through Dec 31, 2019; not available with Xbox One S. New contract, terms, and pricing apply. Requires return of console in good condition. Project Scarlett is subject to FCC rules and will comply with the appropriate FCC rules when available. See product and upgrade terms at Xbox.com/XboxAllAccessTerms.

Almost sounds like they are just canceling out the contract on the Xbox One X when you get Scarlett All Access. But I am down day one for a Scarlett All Access option. I got an Xbox One X via the All Access deal and it was a good experience (I also paid it off way early).

Is the Elite controller $120 better than the regular one?

Yes.

Did they fix the rubber peeling issue?

Noticed they changed the Dashboard in the latest update. Now it is all vertical scrolling again. It is like they can't make up their minds. I do like that you can now hide things you don't care about and adjust the order. Goodbye Mixer tab.

On the Elite 2 the rubber covers the entire handles, so...hopefully. I like the Forza 7 version because it has alcantera, but I don't think the 1 has bluetooth.

I have a dream that Sony and MS will just let MS make the controllers for next gen.
