Stadia-specific catch all

Did they say which games are going to be available on day 1?

I am not there on day 1 but I am curious if they are going to launch with only 3-4 games (Odyssey, Destiny, Borderlands, OMD?) available.

I haven't seen any firm details. I expect Odyssey, Destiny 2, Boarderlands 3, and Red Dead Redemption 2 but that is just a guess.

I could see combining this with the Ubisoft subscription. I'll be curious to see if more publishers offer a similar service on the platform.

Sigh... Google. "Google" is why I'm staying away.

Yeah, I'm thinking maybe that pre-order doesn't make any sense. I'll just use the controller I have now and wait on the rest of the package for when it, you, know is functional.

I still am excited. it is so, so much cheaper than upgrading my PC.

I bought the founders edition as a good vorta so I will have a Chromecast Ultra to use as well as the controller.

Long live the founders

Hey man, early adopters are the best. Somebody needs to pay twice the price for half the functionality now so that I can get a better product at a cheaper price later. (-:

What is playable on Day One?

Best list I could find

Destiny 2: The Collection
Red Dead Redemption 2
Attack on Titan 2: Final Battle
Borderlands 3
DOOM
Darksiders Genesis
DRAGON BALL XENOVERSE 2
Farming Simulator 19
Football Manager 2020
FINAL FANTASY XV
Ghost Recon Breakpoint
Rise of the Tomb Raider, Shadow of the Tomb Raider, & Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition

And several more but it isn't formatted to make it easy to copy so I am stopping

Peak at Stadia packaging
*I assume the phone isn't part of it, but if they include a Pixel phone I won't argue

If I don't get a plant I'll sue them!

I want to know what the key opens.

Your heart, obv.

Or bank account.

Or both.

I don't think it's a big deal, if still a little odd. They were pretty clear that the "founders edition" was considered a soft launch and the full product will launch next year. I fully expected there to be a few growing pains.

I still fully expect the product to fail and be abandoned before too long (it's Google after all...). It feels a bit half-baked, but I'm still hopeful.

Thanks. I've never found anything that definitively calls out what I will be able to play on 11/19 and I kinda want to know. Even the list you linked (again, thank you!) included a lot of, "we think, probably, and we expect" instead of confirmed.

Like Phades notes, this is a soft launch, there will be growing pains and if it allows me to do PC games not available on my Xbox without buying hardware, it will be nice. For me.

Are those the free games or the ones that you will get to buy after subscribing?

I'll be in the market once I can bring my existing library of games.

There is going to be a Stadia Connect sometime between now and launch, the guess is we'll get an exact launch lineup then.

As far as free games, Destiny 2 is the only one at launch and they plan on adding additional games at a regular cadence (monthly?) This doesn't take into consideration any F2P games at launch, rumored to possibly be one of the battle royales.

Is it the F2P version of Destiny 2 or the latest with all the content?

It's everything through Shadowkeep and includes the annual pass.

Good news / bad news

Bad:
Stadia will require Wi-Fi to play games at launch, including on Pixels
Although I can't imagine how it would chew through data if it tied to do it over a cell connection.

Good:
Google adds Pixel 2 as a Stadia-compatible device
For me anyway since I have a Pixel 2 phone.

That's cool. I've also got a 2. I guess on D1 I'll play....Destiny 2.

19 days out and they appear to be doing a pretty typical job of first console release - problems with shipping mean that some pre-orders won't come on release day, not a ton of games, etc.

I hope it is ok. I honestly expect to buy 2-3 games a year from them (unless they have sales like Steam) so I am not too upset but I do hope the service succeeds.

Hands-On with Google Stadia and Technology Deep Dive!

I waited two weeks and canceled. I have no interest in Destiny 2 since I have the base game from PS+ and elsewhere.

And I don't feel like buying a full priced game at launch just to try it out.

Well, I'm still excited but I'm probably their dream consumer. No consoles, a decent gaming PC but one I would happily jump off the upgrade train if Stadia proves successful and I had a great experience with Project Stream.

I'm holding out a little hope that there will be a few bonus games/freebies at launch and at least a triple A title added to their sub service in December.

As for shipping times, people on reddit are reporting that actual shipping times might be faster than stated based off of conversations with google reps, but we'll see and regardless, google has confirmed that you can play with mouse and keyboard on the 19th if your controller and chromecast hasn't been delivered yet.

Yeah, same here.

Seems like those of us without consoles, who are near upgrade time on PC's are the best market case.

I don't know why so many people seem to not notice there is a not small market of people like that. Next year, the console gamers who don't want to drop 500 on the PS5 or XBONE2 will be the new target. Now there is a install base in addition to the fact that anyone can buy any game on it whenever and play for free. It will be kind of like crack if they get the UI and service right. (Which I think they will.)

The trick is making sure they can get major publishers other than Ubisoft on board. EA already had their logo out at one of the Stadia press conferences and just killed exclusivity on PC with origin vs steam... I feel like that move was straight up an answer to Stadia coming out. Not sure if it was to get a better deal with google or to stave off investors pushing them to release new games on all platforms as there is no pull for people to make the effort to install origin these days.

Also compared to all the dropped projects google has had, the investment and commitments they have made here far exceed normal google stuff... So I don't really understand the comparison.

Agree with both of the above.

I'm also the target market as my dollar resources are more plentiful than my time resources. And I don't have a gaming PC so if Stadia gives me access to awesome PC stuff I can't get on console (or isn't on GamePass since I'm rapidly coming to the conclusion I just shouldn't buy individual games anymore), I'm in.

I doubt early release/beta stuff like Magic: Arena will go to Stadia but it's PC-only stuff I'm going to with them.

I really think Ubisoft has it figured out with their subscription model. If EA copies them and both are available for free on Stadia.... that is basically the vast majority of gaming content in one go.

Also finished the tested video. The VPs said they have a 5 year road map and are already optimizing for future hardware with a 10 year plan for the Stadia project. Not remotely concerned it will be cancelled any time soon.

My concern is the same as it has been - will they have a store system that is as good as Steam? Lots of sales, lots and lots of content.

On one hand they can't force developers to release their games on Stadia but on the other they can partner with them and make it almost a no brainer for a small developer to put out their games on Stadia. That is all about how much of a cut Google takes, how much support they give, etc.

I am at my mom's this weekend browsing the web on my pixel 2 xl and thinking/hopeing that next month I could be playing something on it when I am here. It would be a pretty cool to be able to fire up destiny 2 for a bit without bringing anything but my phone and the stadia control.

Confirmed by a Stadia dev, the founder's editions start shipping out on the 19th.

Presumably, you can log into the app, play on a PC as soon as you get your account email, so I guess that's how they can claim the 19th as launch day.

They will be doing a Reddit AMA on the 13th.

Considering I likely won't have a 4K TV until after Black Friday, I won't mind playing via mouse and keyboard for a few days.
