Gaming video Catch-All

I have never owned a Sega console but some friends did growing up. My only memory from that is getting everyone together for Mortal Kombat tournaments at their house. I do have great memories of watching my dad play Space Harrier on an arcade machine when I was small enough I had to look up at a sharp angle just to see the screen. I can't see myself buying the Sega Mini but it still looks impressive.

For anyone that ever played Chrono Trigger on DS (or a later release), the end of the video sums up what to think of the content added, and why your view of the game may be skewed if you only played one of those versions.

I used to own a beautiful 24" 1600x1200 Sony CRT monitor (don't remember the model). I actually played Xbox 360 on it back before I owned my first HD TV. Eventually I gave it up but I kinda miss it sometimes.

I can't get over how much he reminds me of Rusty from European Vacation.

Game looks pretty good though.

* I am sure there will be a lot of unseen improvements but wow this looks like a Fallout New Vegas mod.

131 Rapid-Fire Questions About The Outer Worlds

With Shocktober upon us, I've been noticing a recent string of long-form video analysis of Pathologic 2.

Game was always on my radar but having gone though the bulk of these vids over the weekend coupled with the -20% sale on Steam this week, I decided to take the plunge.

Dropped a few hours in last night and man. This thing is the real deal.

It's so...strange. The atmosphere is incredible. Everything feels off. It's not in your face outrageous. It's subtle and unsettling. There's a nuanced mix of reality and otherworldly elements. There's tons of world lore and exposition, but nothing is laid out in strict black & white explanations. You're dropped into a world that's already in motion and no one is sitting you down for a detailed primer lesson. It makes you question what's real or not. Everything is business as usual with the local residents, but the oddities happening all around makes one question if you're crazy or they're crazy.

Is it Lynchian? Is it a fever dream? It's all of that and then some.

This thing feels unique and special, avant garde in a way that takes one by surprise.

Machine learning is being used for gaming to increase quality at higher framerates. Kinda impressive and unexpected actually. Still early days on this tech and we’ll see if ATI is able to bring this to next generation consoles so that it can be leveraged by more than just enthusiast PC gamers.

Current generation consoles are already heavily using reconstruction techniques for upscaling a lower resolution render to 4K resolution output but can’t yet compare to what DLSS is able to do in modern PC games on GeForce 20XX cards.

I'm on a heavy The Last of Us/Ashley Johnson kick. Here are a few gems:

**ALL KINDS OF SPOILERS FOLLOW**

This first one's bland title hides it's true nature.

The Witcher 3 apparently enjoyable handheld on Switch which is pretty impressive. Cross platform saves would really make a handheld version more compelling. Can’t see myself playing the Switch version but it’s good to know that someone who only has Switch does still have the opportunity to play without missing out on anything but graphics.

Digital Foundry builds an approximation of a next gen console to see how it stacks up compared to current gen's top of the line (XboxOneX and PS4Pro).

We still don't know a lot about next gen consoles but this does give a rough idea of how much more power they should have based on what we do know and that a lot of the increase is in the processor which isn't surprising since the top of the line in current gen still have very under-powered processors.

Digital Foundry also recently did a video about Star Citizen as an example of the current boundary of what consumer PCs can do these days:
