Rocket League Catch All

The other new car that was announced today is using the Plank(batmobile) hitbox.

After a year long pause more or less I got back in the brink last night, having moved to a new place with an apparently more stable ISP I managed to play through ten matches of snow hockey?, can't remember the name of the mode, but man it was great, I did pretty good most games and ended up ranking Gold 2. Looking forward to playing with the gang soon.

Welcome back. Snowday is definitely a fun mode.

The title is a bit misleading considering he spends most of the video talking about one rank

Really working hard on my sideways air control at the moment. I finally put my head down to just learn it and now I'm seeing the results. It may not seem like much, but I'm getting 10/18 on Kevpert car control shots first time goals with sideways movement only! It's helping me in games a lot as well, as I'm notcing my rank steadily going up. Diamond 1 division 4 now in 2v2. In my most recent game I had 9 shots and 10 centred balls, which is largely down to playing quicker and also feeling like I have more control over the car. It's been one of the hardest things to learn, but it's been worth it!

Well, one of my goals for this season was to get Diamond rewards for the first time and I achieved that today. Next up is to get my 2's up to high plat from low plat.

Congrats!

Chaos 4v4 with 2 young kids and a casual gamer as teammates is quite an experience

It's been over 2 years since it was announced but the free to play version of RL has finally launched in China.

Trailer here:

Rizzo made a video about playing it:

It has a very different new user experience and menu than the main game.

lol

Season 12 reward is going to be universal animated decals. That’s a first.

Supersonic Fury, Revenge of the Battle-Cars, and Chaos Run DLC Packs Are being included in base game so every paying customer gets them. Previously only Xbox had those included.

Winter Roadmap

That free to play Chinese version of the game only comes with a few free cars and you have to buy the rest from the store. That is pretty much what I expected from a free to play version. Basic game, basic car and customization, monetization of the rest. Makes a lot of sense based on what has worked for other games. Should really help them get a ton of new customers and have a strong monetization path.

What can we do to make Saturday night Bottle Rockets more fun for everyone?

I feel like we lost something around the time we moved from a private server to taking over public lobbies.

Thoughts?

I always thought the weekend games were fun. I've just been in a state of flux the last month as far as living arrangements and haven't been able to join you guys.

Yeah the private rooms were good. The 5 goal setting kept things from getting out of hand if teams were unbalanced.

But everyone wants XP and challenges so we've been in the pubs for a while now.

Getting private room/s going is the way to do it I think. When we're taking over pubs I think we all end up going tryhard and are more likely to get frustrated. Last night I was worrying too much about my MMR and feeling pretty negative and self critical. I think going private and mixing in rumble, 5 goal limit, hockey, etc is the way to go. Could mess around with different mutators too. Would be great to try the Fifa view that was making the rounds a month or so ago.

Usually I feel the same but sometimes it seems like the lobby gets really serious.

I suspect this is what I am noticing. It's a lot more casual and people goof off more when it is just GWJers in the lobby. When there are randos in the lobby people seem way more serious.

It doesn't help that Psyonix seems to weight the MMR of randos that join on the higher end of the people in a lobby.

I have a tough time playing a game like this and not taking it seriously/competitive. That doesn't mean it isn't fun, I just have a hard time turning that off. Part of the reason I've enjoyed playing with all you in the past is you are all better than me and playing against better players makes me better at the game.

Maybe the problem is not everyone is doing the bottle part of bottle rockets. If you're not drinking enough to not care about MMR you're not doing it right.

Part of it is also we lost the casual part of the Bottle Rocket crowd.

It's all Amoebic's fault. And everyone else playing Overwatch on Sat night instead of bottle rockets.

Yeah that. Around the time Amoebic stopped attending. I’m one of the only really casual players left

To each their own but I never really found Overwatch fun. Do you think if it wasn’t a time conflict some would come back?

When RL goes free to play there should be an overall influx of new players but I doubt there are many GWJers who want to play but are waiting for free.

Which is good to hear. I’m not implying playing serious is a problem I’m just saying it seems like people used to have more fun and I hope we can promote an environment where everyone is having fun.

Turn off whatever addon shows MMR? I'm a little surprised this is an issue. If I want to play with some sort of ranking I play Competitive, if I don't I play casual. Why bring a ranking into the casual mode?

I will agree with the posters that casual has become more serious. I actually play less RL than I have in the past mainly because the random casual nights (other than organized saturday) seem to be less frequent. The normal crew seems to want to do smaller groups and do competitive. My competitives are always solo queue because I feel like I don't want to feel like I'm imposing on someone's "quest for XXX ranking", but I'd much rather play casual and just enjoy it,m. I check steam, see 3 or 4 people playing, go to discord and no one is in there... oh well off to something else then.

The only game reason I dont' like casual is the frequent quits and join lags. If anything that's the main draw for competitive.. that the game will finish with the folks that started it one way or the other.

Okay
Recently, I have heard rumors from a friend that crates are about to be withdrawn. I wanted to ask on the Psyonix forum, but it also doesn't work (officially closed forum). What's up with these crates? Will they disappear from my inventory, will I still be able to have them and exchange them, but won't get new ones?
What whith wheels and items for Rocket League? Should I sell all my crates or sell it and buy rocket league items for it? Or just open it, take my rewards and what? What with sallery? Do peoples still'll be echxanging and buy Rocket League items? Like here? buy rocket league items what with rl items wheels, body and paint?

All unopened crates will be converted to blueprints and you can use those blueprints to create items. They described the new system in the official post here:

To be honest, I stopped playing because I felt like I was consistently killing the room. Log in, play a bit, then people would get frustrated with me or whatever and everyone would log out and go to bed within the hour. When I didn't log in, I noticed the games lasted significantly longer. That hurt. I mean, it was getting to the point where I was dreading Saturday evenings because there was a 50/50 chance I'd have to quietly log out and go cry because I didn't feel welcome to my own thing that I loved and probably cared way too much about. I felt like I was having a negative impact on everyone else's fun as a whole and it would be better for everyone if I just didn't participate.

Also, there was also this other game going on where I wasn't constantly getting performance anxiety about disappointing my friends?

My run with Rocket League ran into the same skill level issues most mp games run into where the divide in skill creates a divide in participating players. I hit my skill ceiling a long time ago, and others kept getting better. Folks are VERY aware of when they've become the lead balloon, and any griping, silent rage quitting, or "teasing" from the regulars about it is a surefire way to make sure the casual folk don't return again. Especially when it happens on what was supposed to be a casual game night.

I hear you Amoebic... ironically, the reason I don't play Overwatch anymore is the exact reason you have moved on from RL. It wasn't the saturday casual but just a random pickup in the GWJ channel. Because you can (could?) be changing characters everytime you died it was hard to keep track of who was who. I generally don't like class based MP games because I like to try everything, especially if casual, and I flipped to a tank. At some point DPS partner died and basically said what a bad job the tank did protecting him.. not knowing it was me.

I haven't played since and this was a long time ago. I know exactly what you are talking about. I can't remember the character, I certainly don't remember who it was in channel, but I remember the feeling of "letting down the team" even though its been at least 18 months. Its why I don't play OW now.. I literally have no idea how to play any character and I feel I'd just be frustrating the rest of the group that has expectations of knowledge.

That being said, if you do ever find yourself wanting to come back into RL, you would be welcome. Heck, maybe I'll stop into OW on Saturday as an exchange.

Thanks for sharing! I'm sorry to hear that. I wanted to be clear that this is an issue with pretty much all team-based, role-specific MP games in community settings, and that's something I've also run into as well with OW.

It's an issue where people don't realize/care the impact of their attitudes and the things they say. Most folks aren't intending to be intentionally hurtful by venting their frustrations and blaming their teammates (tale as old as time), but the end result is the behavior makes people feel generally unwelcome and less likely to return.

It's something that, now that I have the authority to do so, I'm much quicker to address and attempt to actively resolve these days, and call out IF I see it. These days, those kinds of things don't happen around me so much anymore. What that seems to tell me is most people are at least somewhat aware that what they're doing isn't great if the behavior changes due to A Mod being present or not. I didn't have that kind of leverage when I played RL.

Regardless of game, running folks off for playing annoying/bad and then being sad no one wants to play anymore are two different sides of a particular coin. I think it's important for those looking to build their player base to be conscious of their own conduct throughout, and if there's behavior within the community that is counter to accepting new and inexperienced players, that needs to be consciously addressed.

ick. ~mod hat~
With regard to the negativity in OW, I've had chats with the regulars group regarding this multiple times, and it's something the Discord moderation team is aware of. The general OW community knows that kind of stuff doesn't fly anymore, but if you (or anyone!) is having sportsmanship issues with fellow GWJers in OW, RL, or elsewhere, please let me know.
