Cartoon watchers with jobs

Bojack Horseman has been canceled along with Tuca and Bertie. Some seem to think it was because the animation house unionized. I never heard of the tuca show but the animation house handles both shows.

Who canceled them? Why are they anti union? I’m going to boycott the canceller.

Netflix

Ooof! That’s a tough one to boycott. But I work about 55 hours per week and don’t really have time to watch anything on Netflix anyway. I guess I can lie to myself and pretend that the REAL reason I don’t watch is because I don’t support their union busting behavior.

Note that netflix didn't give a reason for the cancellation as far as I know. It is possible the shows weren't doing well any more. Still not giving a Bojack time to give a proper ending is messed up.

Anyone watch Teen Titans go vs Teen Titans? If so how was it?

Actually, surprisingly good (considering). It was much better than Teen Titans Go to the Movies, IMHO. I had pretty much given up on TTG a season or so before the first movie came out (even though I did watch it) and so this was a nice change. I was also happy that there were a number of small points that referenced back to minor plot points in the first three seasons of TTG.

I'll try to give my impressions without revealing too much plot...but I'll still spoiler it just in case.

Spoiler:

The blend of TTG and TT worked well enough, I think. They kind of balanced each other out. The TTG side wasn't nearly as unnecessarily goofy as the recent seasons have been and the TT side was a bit more silly than the series and even made fun of a bit of the angst that was prevalent in it. Cyborg and BeastBoy didn't play that much of a role other than just being there and the Robin aspect was predictable and a bit off-putting but that's okay. What made this movie work for me though was that it focused on Raven and her (literal) internal demons. And of course, the Trigon aspect was hilarious. I did like the interactions with Starfire even though they were minor compared to the main plot surrounding Raven.

There were a lot of fun references in the end to the multiple different depictions of TT in both print and animated media at the end which was neat if you (like I did) used to read the comics way back in the day.

Watched Wonder Woman Bloodlines which looked good but the plot was a mess. In first minutes there are aliens invading. A big to do is made about contacting the government to deal with them. This is never resolved. They just move on to other things. The other things make no sense. They just put together scenes with a bad guy that is never fleshed out.

The last battle is cool but they don't say how the bad guy got the monster. Also there is one bad guy that has a name that represents her power. The main bad guy gives her a drug that gives her her power. Since she was already named it made no sense.

The style of the movie is similar to the rest of the movies but it doesn't fit in with the other movies. So this is stand alone movie.

If you want a good movie skip this but I enjoyed the movie even with the negatives.

So, Genndy Tartakovsky's Primal. I am digging it. Visually captivating and it has a minimal (words) yet powerful story.

Primal is intense. Only watched the first episode but it was great. The show is very violent but there was purpose to the carnage. Kind of reminds me of the Samurai Jack episodes without dialogue. The animation is like Venture Bros. I don't know if they will be able to keep up the pace the show is traveling at.

Where is this available to watch?

I think it is only on cartoon network.

The 1st ep is on the Adult Swim website. They'll be unlocking the other eps over time most likely just like they did with that recent season of Samurai Jack.

Lots of great, classic stuff coming to Disney Plus but the one that caught my eye was Gargoyles. Not sure if I'll watch season 1 again, because I've seen it so many times. But excited to revisit the later seasons.

Gen:Lock season 2 has been confirmed for HBO Max. I'm not sure if it will also be on Rooster Teeth.

Watched the first episode of Seis Manos which I liked. Checked it out in hopes it was a good Halloween show, it isn't but I still liked it. First episode was in Mexico with only one white person on it. Everyone else was a person of color. The animation isn't the best. The show is for adults. The story so far has a dude turning into a monster via a drug and being confronted by Mexican martial artist being trained by a Asian monk type guy. There is also a black guy that seems to be Shaft stereotype.

I just watched Wonder Woman: Bloodlines. Pretty disappointed overall with the quality of the script and the story. I found myself mentally ticking off cliches and tired tropes while watching various scenes. Overall it just felt rushed and thrown together which is strange because most of the previous DC Universe films have been much better. I did however learn a bunch of characters from Wonder Woman's background that I'd never heard of before. Spent some time on wikipedia doing a little catch-up afterwards.

In contrast to my reaction to Wonder Woman: Bloodlines, I was absolutely floored by the emotional impact of the DC Showcase: Death short. Wow. The story is simple but powerful. Make sure you have kleenex handy.

I think I liked all the showcase shorts so far.

Holy cow. She Ra Season 4 is live and... Holy. Cow.

I generally prefer anime for its strong plotlines, strong character development, and fast pacing (the shorter ones, not the plodding shonen ones), but She Ra is up there with the best of them. Season 4 is amazing.

There are a lot of payoffs coming in this season, a lot of character development, and it goes where it's supposed to. They don't put off anything.

I’ve watched the first four episodes of Tartakovski’s Primal and sadly I’m underwhelmed. I suppose something as good as Dexter’s Lab only comes around once in a lifetime.

Completed She-Ra latest season. Didn't like the first half because of Catra. I was sick of her treating everyone badly and everyone putting up with her. The second half was great though. Favorite episode was one where they were going back and forth in time.

I feel the first half of Catra's story is necessary to fully justify what happens in the second. Even if you're a Catra fanboy, you can't argue that she was treated unfairly.

I really enjoyed Scorpia’s arc this season.
I was glad Swiftwind got more screen time as well, he had some great comedic moments.

I also liked how

Spoiler:

a lot of Double Trouble’s meddling was upended by the Best Friend Squad actually talking to each other, rather than the usual contrived TV nonsense where no one ever gives anyone a chance to explain themselves. Adora and Glimmer still ended up fighting, but at least that was mostly due to a legitimate disagreement rather than some dumb misunderstanding.

The problem is this is season 4 and Catra has been terrible person since season 1. We didn't need four seasons of Catra stepping on her friends because Shadow Weaver treated her bad. It was way to much abuse on her "friends". We got Catra number in season 1 and in season 4 we have it on speed dial. Catra should have been checked in season 2 or 3.

You're absolutely entitled to your take on the show. This comes across as condescending because I don't know how else to say it. But it's not. I absolutely respect your enjoyment or non-enjoyment of any medium, and specifically Catra's story throughout.

I feel that it's just right because Seasons 2 and 3 were half seasons, and Scorpia is almost certainly infatuated with her, and I know how that's like.

Basically, Catra's behavior is absolutely and irrefutably her own decisions now, and her friends sticking around for as long as they do is a statement about their stories and their characters.

At the end of Season 4, Scorpia is probably the most morally upright character in the show. Catra doesn't deserve her. And frankly, neither would I. It's remarkable that you can say that about a nominal villain.

Watched two episodes of Gen: Lock and am really enjoying it so far. David Tennant's character is fun.
