No mini map without gaining them with kill streaks.

Can't decide whether to be happy about this or not. On the one hand, it was an incredibly good tool for situational awareness that the average player was pretty bad at using, so it was a tremendous help. On the other hand, it was kind of silly how much of my attention was devoted to that map during play and it'll probably be fun to not have to constantly divide my focus while playing. On the gripping hand, if the recent CoD is any indicator, everyone and their grandmother will run a UAV killstreak loadout and it'll be up half the time anyway.

Yea... 2 kills for personal and 3 for team UAV will make it easy for everyone. It makes situational awareness that much more important for spawn flips and knowing where your teammates are. Supposedly the version they ran during the demo didn't show it, but we'll be able to see teammates outlines which will help.

As a Battlefield fan, I am curious how the larger team battles with vehicles will turn out. Looking at the possibilities gets me more annoyed with Dice and how they released BFV not fully baked. We will see how this one goes.

Open Beta Sept 12th.

This is the PS4 date. PC and Xbox starts the following week.

Thank you GrandSlamSingle! I got a proper 'soft lob' on from watching that! (American kids, ask your British friends.)

I am confident that I will be completely unable to carry out the feats shown in the video. Indeed, I expect to be completely unable to compete in multi-player within two weeks of launch. But I will be there on Day 1...

Lot of rumours flying around that a BR mode is coming as a separate F2P addon in 2020.

I don't know what to make of those rumours, ranalin.

My immediate thought is "Why not capitalise on the momentum of launch of the main game?" Battlefield V didn't launch a battle royale mode until this year... and as a result I've never played it. I'd long be done with that game.

Surely it would make more sense to offer a free-to-play version later? Who knows what the landscape will look like in 2020? We may be suffering BR fatigue by then.

Been watching a lot of gameplay lately and i have to say i'm getting more excited. The quicker TTK and no minimap is like a modified version of old school hardcore which was my favorite mode till the population for it on the pc died out. Plus i LOVE the new map designs!

Multiple reasons. One it splits the dev team and we saw the affect of that in BO4 and Blackout. You only have so many resource to work on things and trying to do too much at one time is just poor results across the board.

Other hand it could be that it's just not done yet and they want to release it in a stable state.

Also we're only 4 months away from 2020 so i doubt fatigue will be an issue

Speaking of populations... The xplay has me actually considering the ps4. What are the authorized mouse/keyboard options for it?

there ya go. Right from Playstation.

Lot of rumours floating around that we'll get an announcement Monday at Gamescom about a Gunfight(2v2) beta next week!

Really looking forward to this game. COD Series gets a lot of stick (and rightly so on some occasions) but for a run and gun, dip in dip out when you want, its ok.

I'm liking that level design, it feels a lot more like the old school maps you'd see in MW2 and earlier iterations. More verticality and creativity. The later Calls of Duty had such paint-by-numbers maps, none of them had any real personality from a mechanical perspective.

ps4 exlusive for the 2v2 mode starts the 24th.

what is that sub-machine the dude is using in the above video?!!! as some one who loved the MP5 in COD4MW, this looks awesome.

ALSO....FAMAS...MY MW2 LOVE IS BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAACK.

ok ...let me simmer. im an adult.

Seeing some game play footage, it looks like MW vibe is back, for the first time in a long time I'm keeping an eye on this one.

Open beta thoughts:

Their improvements to their engine is just spectacular! It looks good and plays super smooth!

They need to take care of connection issues in between matches. Other than that its been error free for me.

The different modes. Which include a new version of S&D called Cyber Attack is fun.

The maps are AMAZING! Love the new asynchronous layouts! Yea they do allow folks to do some camping silliness, but it's not that major of an issue.

They do need to fix the lighting for dark rooms. Some of them are impossible to see into from the outside and it's easy to get shot from them.

Ground war 32v32!!!!! Wow! They're stepping hard on Battlefield's toes. So far it's just been one map and i feel like the points need to be a bit more spread out but this is a fun mode! It shows a lot of promise of the possible BR that is to come later.

The night mode is a fun distraction but not something i'd want to play a lot of. It's my understanding it's supposed to be on a low rotation count unless in a specific lobby for it.

The gun play is a step above from previous versions in my opinion.

I feel like i say this every year, but this is truly an improvement across the board of the game.

Gun Fight!!! 2v2 Holy sh*t is this intense and a LOT of fun.
I'm sure they're going to nerf it, but you get the same amount of xp as a regular match but in a MUCH shorter time. It was super easy to hit the beta level cap from primarily playing GF. Hoping there's a rank mode for it. The version they had up was where you had to pick up randomly layed out weapons instead of spawning with them. They need to tweak that so that there's always at least a pistol available. It was annoying to go 3-4 rounds without a gun unless you wanted to do a high risk grab out in the open.

Hopefully they won't ruin all the good will they're getting from the beta with craptacular MTXs, but alas Activision is going to Activision.

From what I have read from Battlefield fans, this mode in CoD is a clustered mess and hits exactly on the points needing to be separated more as you mentioned. Now this is to be taken with a grain of biased salt but just impressions I have read. I have no desire to play the other modes so going to take a pass on this one. I don't want to come across as a CoD hater as I own most titles but just not into that compact, spawn die rotation anymore. It will be a big hit I am sure.

I really hope not. Not being able to see into darker areas and into buildings from the outside (and out of buildings into bright light, for that matter) is far more realistic and interesting. There's plenty of ways to counter the lack of information.

That said, there are a number of issues with Ground War. The biggest problem with Ground War right now is the kill streaks. There are so many people and so many kills happening so rapidly that there are kill streaks going off constantly. It's difficult to maneuver in the open without getting repeatedly struck by cruise missiles, air attacks, and helicopter attacks. It also tends to snowball, so that once a team gets the upper hand with kill streaks its very hard to stage a comeback.

Other issues:

Vehicles are way too powerful, though some of this is a beta effect because the top-attack ATGM isn't available. You can rack up massive kills by maneuvering to a vantage point and sniping with a vehicle. Most people can't effectively reply. A related issue is serious geometry problems with rocks and other cover, which makes it very difficult to shoot both ways across rocky surfaces, and conversely to know when you are in cover and when you are not.

Sniping is far too easy. There doesn't appear to be much, if any, bullet drop or flight time, which means that you can rail-gun people from across the map with quick-scope shots. Scoped rifles are also much too effective from the hip in close combat.

The only reason to spawn on a squad mate is points. In fact, grouping together is a bad idea, because it invites a missile or helicopter attack. There's little strategic or tactical maneuvering because everyone is always detected due to the massive number of UAVs, radars, and other spotting tools constantly going off.

Spawning is a serious problem. It's very common to either spawn in right behind someone, right in front of someone, or just outside a building, leaving you vulnerable to spawn campers and kill streaks. There's only a handful of places where you *can* spawn for a given location, and people learned them very quickly.

All of these issues mean that the game often degenerates into an indoor spawnfest melee, with people appearing out of nowhere, gunning someone down, and in turn getting slaughtered. That may be what they are going for, but if they are looking to compete with Battlefield they need to up their game.

I enjoyed it. I think all the positive talk is valid as are the criticisms and observations. I had a good time with the beta. Got to level 30, had a lot of fun and some frustration as well. My funny spawn story in ground war was me being in the building next to point a that has a good vantage and multiple levels, overlooks the actual quarry. Anyhow, other side takes A but I managed to keep in the building. I'm happily machine gunning various folks when a dude spawns in on top of me and grabs another window. We are happily covering our approaches for about 30-45 seconds when we simultaneously realize we aren't on the same side. Gun play ensued.

I got to be honest, I am really excited about this game after playing the beta. I've never really been a COD fan but this game just feels so different than all the others. The gunplay feels really solid, the movement is just right and the change to the Unreal Engine is such a good move. The icing on the cake was Ground War which I had no idea was a mode in this game going it. I was shocked and super excited once I figured out what was going on at the start.

I will also be that guy and say that I really hope there is a BR mode for this later on. From what I am reading there are mentions of it in the code. If they are doing a Battlefield style mode I can't see why they wouldn't be able to do 100 players. This can be so much better than Blackout. The Unreal Engine is so much better at bigger maps than the old IW engine.

Their official response to the BR question has been. Not at launch. So lot of people expect it to show up in early 2020.

Also this is NOT the Unreal engine. It's just a reworked IW engine with help from Nvidia.
