I basically spent all day making cute D&D monster badges.
I THINK that counts as being productive?

Totally does

I got to stretch my drawing muscles a bit this week and doodled my aarakocra finding her sister...

Spoiler:

My character Arek is a aarakocran Cleric of Light based off of an eastern yellow robin and the whole reason she's traveling with her current group is to find her sister who ran away a few years before the beginning of our campaign. So naturally we found her in the underdark, possessed by some kind of hivemind, and upon rescue she has no memory! And so the plot thickens :3

that's cute

Here's two more of mine. Thinking of making a bunch of stickers out of them.

After doing a bit of design and playing with our 3D printer at work, about a month ago I finally bought my own We recently had a session where we used a ton of things I designed and printed and I wanted to share.

Spoiler:

All the light gray plastic are my prints. From left to right ish:
- I printed little sun tokens for when my Light Cleric casts Bless.
- One of our aarakocra is an NPC, so I designed and downloaded a Hero Forge file for her.
- Our aarakocra and some enemies fly I made a couple lifted flight stands to show lifted game pieces, in this case it was our Paladin's Spiritual Weapon, which I also designed.
- And finally, a Sphere of Shadows for our Warlock! It is four identical pieces with a jigsaw top so he can take them apart for safe transportation.

The black printed characters are PC are Hero Forge prints in Premium Plastic.

I also went out and bought some primer and model paints and have started playing with that - no pictures I want to share yet but it's been fun playing with something new.

The documentary about D&D art and artists, Eye of the Beholder, is available to stream on Amazon Prime Video now.

Watched it tonight thanks to your recommendation and I now consider it essential viewing for anyone who's merely dabbled in D&D. Every piece of art they showed either told a story or invited the viewer to tell a story about what they were seeing on their own.

I watched it the other day. Brought me back to my young days playing AD&D and seeing a lot of that art from the “four horsemen.”

Time for a little old school.

Got some Dragonlance in that last one.

Yep! The Dragonlance books were the first fantasy series that I read.

I remember this one from the cover of Dragon magazine.

Yep! I was a big fan of Dragon and then Dungeon back then.

I loved Dragon magazine. One of my older brother's friends gave him a stack of them when he went off to college, and we devoured every page.

I spent way too much time reading Dragon compared to the almost nonexistent time I spent playing D&D at the time.

Got to take a look at the art in the Avernus book, and it is really outstanding.

Index of the covers of Dragon magazine all the way from #1

It would appear that they really started to get rolling, art-wise, on the covers in the mid 80s.

I think it took them a little while to attract the big names in the fantasy art industry. Or maybe took a while to be able to afford them.

This was always one of my favorite covers.

RIP Parkinson

I didn't play any D&D before college but I had the 2ed AD&D manuals memorized from all the times I checked them out of the public library as a teen.

Me 3.

Parkinson, Elmore and Brom were all faves of mine.

For those of you with Amazon Prime, the Eye of the Beholder documentary is available to stream now. Lots of interviews and art from all of D&Ds history. I really liked it.

I recently moved and thought I would share my remote game set up as a DM:
IMAGE(https://i.ibb.co/pfysCjD/IMG-20200602-173024404.jpg)
I'm hoping to be able to upgrade my webcam soon and add a second one so my players can see my mischievous grins that won't ever end in their demise, I swear .
This setup has also been handy for playing TCG games remotely too.

So the PVC pipe just slides over the tail of the carpentry clamp, or do you have to do something to it to make it stable enough?

Vargen wrote:

I haven't solved that entirely yet. It works pretty well as is, the clamp is rated for 24in, so there is next-to-no chance for the pipe to fall off while in use. However, in terms of improving stability in regard to the camera swinging from side-to-side (as the PVC portion can freely rotate around the clamp), I'm thinking of either wrapping some rubber bands around the tail of the clamp (closest to the table) as a source of friction inside of the PVC pipe, or notching out a rubber cork to wedge around the tail to hopefully accomplish the same friction induced result.

Arise thread!
