NFL 2019: Week 2

I dig Cam's hats. Not a big fan of the scarves, tho.

I wonder how Gardner Minshew the Second would look in that outfit.

Well, how do you like your quarterbacks? Currently in stock I have "Boyish yet Ruggedly Handsome":

... and I have "70s Porn Star":

I also have "Anatomically Blessed Geek" on backorder, but that won't be in until November at the earliest.

If only you could merge the two concepts.

Jimmy cruises porn star Snapchat for dates. Gardner cruises the nearest PTA.

So we heard the rumblings last week about Miami players calling up their agents and wanting to get out, though Miami denied receiving any such requests.

Well, one is now on the record: their 2018 1st round pick, Minkah Fitzpatrick, requests a trade.

Fitzpatrick perhaps has some decent justification beyond the team tanking. He is unhappy with how the team is using him, and with good reason. Fitzpatrick was regarded in the draft as a single-high free safety, who can also play slot cornerback well. He's a lighter, faster guy, not someone with a lot of size or crushing power. The Dolphins, meanwhile, are using him heavily as a box safety, as a linebacker, playing lots of snaps close to the line of scrimmage. Fitzpatrick understandably wants to develop into the Pro Bowl caliber deep safety that you would think a team drafting you at #11 overall would give you the opportunity to become.

Fitzpatrick wrote:

"I'm not 215 pounds, 220 pounds. So playing in the box isn't best suited for me, but that's what Coach is asking me to do."

He might help the Miami defense be better in the short term by filling a bunch of gaps, but what is the point of Miami denying their top young talent the opportunity to develop at their best position in the name of trying to squeeze some wins into a non-competitive season? They're essentially tanking and not giving Fitzpatrick the reps at free safety to benefit from a tanked season.

A lot of teams should be interested in acquiring Fitzpatrick.

Fitzpatrick would make a good Brown.

Or Raven. He could be out there with Earl Thomas. What a tandem!

If I'm the Niners, I'm on the phone finding out if the Dolphins have any interest in Solomon Thomas. They drafted Christian Wilkins to be one of their 3-4 DEs but they have absolutely nothing at the other one, and Thomas would fit that role much better than the out of position rotation he's in because DeForest Buckner plays more snaps than almost any interior defender in the league.

It would take more than Thomas to seal the trade deal, but Flores clearly wants to win some games this year and help his cause to stick around, and Thomas would be an immediate starter there with some long-term upside potential. Thomas plus a draft pick, and Miami would get to send Fitzpatrick all the way to the west coast and the NFC.

He'll end up in New England and we all know it.

ESPN bringing back Chris Berman and Tom Jackson for NFL Primetime on ESPN+. There is that bundle of Disney+ and ESPN+ coming soon, right?

Yup, Disney, ESPN and Hulu for same price as Netflix.

What, are you taking over for Certis now that he's on sabbatical?

Uh, Jake Delhomme is on the list for the NFL HoF. Why gawd? He had, like, three good years and a number of OK years, at best.

I expect HBO-levels of gratuitous one-sided violence in Miami today. If the Pats don't get 100 I'm going to be disappointed.

Barnwell has a long twitter disection of last week's Doplhins' "effort."

While the commentators were talking about how Miami script their first 15 plays their very first effort featured a ten yard pass to a receiver who was run blocking at the time.

They just need better scriptwriters. Maybe they can ask Twitch chat to do it.

The 2020 Hall of Fame nominee list is like Smash Ultimate.

2 drives, 5 pass attempts, 2 Garoppolo TD throws over 30 yards apiece.

Lamar doing TDs again.

Packers O and D looking great.

Hope I don't Jinx them.

Looks like the league finally fixed catches.

Lamar threw a beautiful strike on 3rd and 17. Caught. 2nd defender comes in and makes the strip. Ruled catch and fumble, recover by receiver. Held up after challenge.

Football makes sense again.

I already turned the Giants / Bills game off.

I don't know what people were looking at when watching Jackson's Louisville tape and concluding he lacked NFL caliber throwing ability.

His skin color?

Why? Manning throwing to Broncos castoffs Bennie Fowler and Cody Latimer isn't exciting to you?

That couldn't possibly be it.

Plenty of folks saw all the running he did and figured he was a run-first QB. He isn't. He does designed runs mostly, but is a pass first QB who is also a phenomenal athlete.

I am loving every minute of this season so far.

His skin color?

Bingo.

He was hitting guys at 40-50 yards in stride no problem.

Exactly. I have little time as is with a 4 and 7 year old. Watching this is a waste of time for me.

Things going great for Jimmy G.

Things not going so great for Minshew.

About to have a PI review in Ravens game. f*cking blatant ran through the WR early.

EDIT: Uphelp. Bullsh*t.

I appreciate the bit of 80s nostalgia that is Niners versus Bengals.

Minshew drives for the tying score, but Marrone goes for 2 and the win, and Fournette gets stuffed a few inches short.

I also appreciate the bit of 00s nostalgia that was Jacksonville's decision process.
