NFL 2019: Week 1

Boo.

Wonder how crazy he is or just an act to get to this point.

Gimme a collusion investigation where the Pats lose all their draft picks. BOOO!

Why else would he have rejected yesterday's return to the status quo?

Keelan Doss just turned down an offer from the Raiders to sign to their *active* roster, preferring to stay on the Jags practice squad instead.

Oakland is clearly much more of a train wreck than Hard Knocks showed us.

Which is impressive. Gruden undoubtedly believes that the show will paint him in a positive light.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA CHRIST. We all make the joke time after time, and it keeps happening.

So who wins the Super Bowl next year?

Josh Gordon and AB. Might as well just mail in the season and give the Patriots this SB

Don't be so pessimistic. Brady could always have a career ending injury since he should have retired and they could suck.

I'm not watching football, but, man, am I going to be following football. I have to admit, watching AB put up ridiculous numbers on the Patriots as a middle finger to the rest of the league would be kind of hilarious.

This whole thing is amazing.

Spoiler:

It didn’t.

It could very well be that he tanked to get on a better team.

He would've also tanked himself out of $21M. I'm more inclined to believe AB's just a loon.

Yes, but it was $21 million over three years rather than the one year total of $15M plus the $9M signing bonus.

I find it VERY hard to believe that AB orchestrated it with any type of plan. I think it was all emotional and if what we know is what the dude is really like, he probably needs some professional mental help.

I just finished Ep. 5.

Yeah the guy already has a SB ring. He had 30 million guaranteed he just lost.

No. He doesn’t. Was drafts in 2011 and the Steelers won in 2009.

And if he (or Drew Rosenhaus, who I don't think is getting enough credit as an orchestrator in all this) felt the Raiders were as big of a dumpsterfire as they appear to be from the outside, then I can see AB Costanza-ing his way to New England.

You’re welcome.

He’s going to end up on the Patriots, isn’t he?

Nah. This isn't Corey Dillon "I'm mad at my old team because they're cheapskates who don't try to win" stuff, or Randy Moss "I'm unmotivated on this crappy team" stuff.

This is Ryan Leaf unhinged self destruction stuff. I don't see Belichick letting it anywhere near his roster.

Savoring the moment. This’ll keep me warm in the mountains

I will be speaking Legion’s name at 18,000 ft. Maybe I’ll toss AB in there too.

Whisper it, but I think the Pats might win the AFC East.

Must have been a play of game where I thought he caught that end zone catch. Shows you how much I care about football now a days lol

You could start a fantasy league among the sherpas!

Rodman was a wreck except when he played for Daly or Phil.

Artest was a wreck except when he played for Phil.

Moss played well for Palpatine.

Those Cowboys teams under Jimmy were crazy but held it together.

It's amazing what a good coach/leadership can accomplish.

I want my $15 back mountain boy.

This example specifically. Michael Irvin was nuts, and Charles Haley made him look like a behavioral therapist.

And AB was fine under Tomlin until the very end. It's almost as though Gruden's not exactly a good coach/leader.

I don't think it can be entirely blamed on Gruden. I don't think players should be 100% beholden to a team but I do think too many individuals think they are bigger then the team they play for.

Comparing 90s players to today in this manner is a reach when it comes to money money money.

I kinda disagree?

The single-mindedness required to make it at the pro level is just insane. They're not the 1%. They're the .01%. And the All-Pro, or MVP or All-Star is 2-3% of THAT (and if you're an NFL All-Pro you are 1.4%).

Since they started playing sports these players have been Achilles vs the Trojans, an unstoppable force that is as unto a god among mortals. It's not usually until they get to the pros that they start to feel any sort of sports/professional challenge because they are finally among peers. I can't fault them for learning the lesson over many years that they are the predictor of their individual success and that individual success is what is rewarded (in terms of accolades, playing time, off-field recognition and compensation). And it's why players like Tim Duncan and (gag) Tom Brady are so remarkable for when they put team above individual salary/recognition/accolades. Is it any wonder they resemble Achilles in terms of personality/character traits (selfish, glory seeking, risk hungry) vs Hector (resigned, self-sacrificial, risk averse)?

To paraphrase Chris Rock, I don't like it. But I understand.

Can you imagine Keyshawn Johnson with Twitter and Instagram when he was playing?

#ThrowMeTheDamnBall

When I called this out in March, I was specific about the Raiders signing a WR at peak diva. They are dysfunctional mess from the top down. That’s how they ended up overpaying for a has been coach that is more image than coach anymore.

There was zero chance that organization was a good fit. I have no idea how he will be going forward, but I can totally see him more under control in NE. But if not, Belichick cuts him without a weeks or months of drama.
