Dead by Daylight catch all

Cool, I got it. I've had a hard time convincing the GWJ crew to give DbD a try (on PC at least). I usually play solo or with some non-GWJ folks. Survive with friends is a lot of fun. We can set up some voice chat through Twitch/Discord or even with the new Steam chat feature. I'm CST and on most evenings until 1am. I played a ton during the 2x BP weekend so I've been taking a break, but I would be up for some games in the evening.

Cool!

Any recommended tips and tricks videos?

Escaped for the first time!

Next game I single-handedly repaired two generators and then got caught…

Trying to escape from the hook seems pretty useless. I've tried it probably two dozen times and have never had a successful escape.

Watch some good streamers. Morf_UK and Jendenise are two of my favorites and you can learn a lot from watching how they play, but to be honest a lot of running a killer is just experience. Understanding how to pallet loop, use jungle gyms and other map environments to escape and prolong a chase come after you play more. Watching some good survivors can help you understand some of the subtleties. The direction you choose to loop around an obstacle can make a difference in escaping or not. Also, understand that pallets are a resource that you have to manage. A lot of terrible survivors stand at pallets and wait for the killer, drop the pallet, run to next pallet and wait, rinse, repeat. Use mind games and window fakes to juke a killer. Watch the killer to see if he respects pallets and then use his hesitation to gain distance. Good killers eat pallets and swing through them. Different killers require different tactics and you have to learn how they operate to know how to counter them. The Nurse can blink through obstacles, so you can't do the same things you would against a trapper or wraith.

Do you mean 'kobe' off the hook? Trying to free yourself rather than get saved? If so, yes, don't do it unless you are not going to get saved by another survivor. You only have a 4% chance on each attempt (unless you run bunch of luck addons/perks. Even then it is a small %. And you then waste one of your hook states when you get to struggle phase.

You are gonna get caught and die --just part of the game. Don't look at that as your win/lose condition. If you are getting involved, doing gens, making saves and running the killer, you will pip and rank up. As you get better you'll escape more. Some killers are just sweaty scumbags who play only to get 4ks. I just get out of those games as fast as I can. Some don't tunnel, camp and play to get map pressure. Those guys are fun to play against and are usually a much higher skill level.

The balance patch they rolled out yesterday changed a bunch of perks and made a huge change to the exhaustion mechanic. Perks like sprint burst, lithe, dead hard, and balanced landing now don't recharge their exhaustion while you are running. You probably will only get use them once during a chase. Previously, if a chase went long enough you might get them back off cool down. It's nice because now we can experiment more with different builds. A lot of survivor mains are salty and whinging about it though.

Also, I'll be on later tonight and tomorrow afternoon/evening if you want to get some games in together. Just msg me if you are around.

New chapter "Shattered Bloodlines" DLC is out today! The base game is 50% off right now with various DLC marked down as well. A great time to get into the game if you are curious.

Also double BP event coming up Sept 21-24. As usual, if anyone wants to play some or get started on the game, msg me on Steam. I play pretty regularly.

Does the DLC ever go on sale? Like a package to buy it all?

What do you think of shattered bloodlines? I’m starting to get into the game. Up for setting up another game together sometime?

Ash J. Williams is the newest survivor added to Dead by Daylight today.

Also, a new chapter with a killer and survivor was added a couple of weeks ago. The new killer "The Plague" is a lot of fun.

jrralls - I missed your last post -- sure just hit me up on Steam if you want to play some.

I haven’t bought any DLC yet but there is a sale going on. Any must buys?

It depends on if you like playing killer or not, but Leatherface is fun and his perks are solid. Michael Myers is also great as is the Spirit (Shattered Bloodline DLC). Ghostface looks very solid, but I haven't played him yet.

I like playing killers but my playtime is usually so short that I don’t have the time to put up with the long wait time.

The new Stranger Things DLC is out for testing this week and it looks absolutely brilliant. Here is a trailer:

So excited for this to release in a week or two. There have been lots of improvements in the game recently -- The Freddy Krueger rework hit several weeks ago and is a very nice change over the original version. Ghostface was also added a couple of months ago as a new killer. The next patch will add improved lobbies for survivor groups (no more having to regroup after every match!) and dedicated servers are coming in the next month or two. This is by far my most played game over the past 3 years (1500 hours). If anyone is looking to get into the game as a new player, I'm happy to do some survivor teams and show anyone the basics. The 2019 version of the game has a steep learning curve for new players as there are now so many perks, killers, maps and abilities, but the game play is still incredibly fun and rewarding.

I’ve just past the 100 mark which is very rare for me. We should try to do the Discord thing and play together again.

I will have to get into this, going to reinstall and play some when I have more time next week.

Yes, let’s do some more survivor team games. If you both want to play sometime, we can organize an evening here. Playing team games is a more forgiving way to learn the survivor side of the game than solo queue. I’ve been playing more killer recently as I’ve been leveling Freddy since the rework. He is so fun to play now. The new map coming with Stranger Things is the best map they have added to the game in over a year. I’m going to be a Nancy main once the new DLC hits.

I’d be up for some GWJ group play tonight after work if anyone else is available. I’m EST.

I’m down for some games. I’m CST, I should be available after 8pm. I’ll ping you on Steam.

I am around next week!

8 PM EST or CST?

CST. I'm jumping on in a few. Msg me when you want to play.

Ready to play.

You guys around tomorrow (Thursday) night around 9:30 EST?

Anyone play on Switch yet?

No, I heard the framerates were pretty bad and there is a bug where people lose their progression when they close the game.

BTW, double bloodpoints this weekend. I'm playing a bunch tonight and probably some more tomorrow. Msg me if you want to play some games together.

Anyone have thoughts on the Deathslinger?

I started playing this a bit when the game was added to Gamepass. I like it.
I'm not sure I'm cut out to play the killer...I'm just plain awful at it.

Overall, a nice variant on MP games. The game forces the survivors to cooperate unlike many other games.

A bunch of the DLC is on sale. Any recommendations?

Thanks,
Chad

The learning curve for this game is steep, especially early on for killer. I think the difficulty spike for survivor comes a little later. IMHO though it's totally worth it to learn killer, it's so much fun.

In terms of Survivor only play - maybe grab the Halloween DLC for Laurie's Decisive strike perk, and the free Lullaby for the Dark DLC.

If you want to play killer, grab who you think looks fun.

I never, never, get into online multiplayer games, but somehow have gotten completely hooked on this one.
I'm ersatzerdahs on xbox live. If you have any interest in playing co-op feel free to message me and just mention GWJ. I'm not super competitive, so I like to think I'm patient and pretty good at teaching the intricacies of game mechanics to new players.

Thank you. I’m away on a trip with my family and will look to add you as a friend when I get back.
I’ve played a bit more and even had some success in a couple killer roles.
What’s the basic strategy you use when playing a killer? I haven’t figured out if it’s a wise move to back off a bit to wait for another survivor to show up after you put someone on a hook?

Thank you,
Chad
