Gears 5 Catch-All

Will be on tonight if it lets me. Up for anything co-op-y. Add me as "Dakhath"

Yay! I'm in!

i can't get any of the multiplayer options to work. The tech test started off this way too. Took a day before was able to play anything.

I played the first two chapters of Gears 5 last night. It’s shaping up to be an excellent game.

They still move like trucks, which is kinda offputting to me.

I didn't know you were such a truck hater.

heh, sorry to any truck enthusiasts! I just mean that the controlling of characters always seems to be a like I'm moving underwater and has constant pressure against moving. Also, it always seems angled a bit, probably because of how they portray the character.

Its what put me off the previous games, and it surprised me last night, that they still handled character movement in the same manner.

That's always been the thing that's kept me from really getting into any gears game. I understand the premise (cover based shooter) but it feels incredibly clunky compared with just about any other third person action game that uses this mechanic today.

I think they control more like a train.

A Cooooleee - Traaaiiinnnn!

My only regret is that I can’t Like this twice.

I’m digging it one mission in, but this is going to be way more fun with other people.

I haven't Gearsed in about eight years(!).

What time do we do this thing?

The vaguest of plans in the Gears'n'Beers thread called for an 8pm EST kickoff.

I'll be on Gears 5 when my kids are finally down and the wife's fallen asleep while we catch up on an episode of Stranger Things 3.

I feel that! Look for me!

Btw, do people still play Warzone? To me, that or maybe Execution are quintessential Gears. The dread, the suspense...it all combines with the semi-horror setting to become something that is greater than the sum of its parts.

I’m in the ‘Warzone with friendly fire turned on’ club. But, unfortunately that was kind of voted out a few years ago during Gears 4. Dodgeball and Arms Race proved to be pretty fun play modes. The biggest problem with Warzone was that The Dead Room is gone (so the social aspect of watching a Gears match of your friends after you had died kinda got ruined) and the skill gap between players meant that some people were mostly sitting out during the night.

But, I welcome Warzone back! More time for me to drink and annoy people!

I enjoyed the "team chat during the match, everyone chat between matches" aspect of Gears 1. Honestly didn't even remember a dead room.

I'm fine with friendly fire on or off. Having it on raises the skill ceiling and adds some potential for hilarity if you aren't taking the game too seriously.

I haven't played Dodgeball or Arms Race, I think, but I'm willing to try. I just think straight team DM eliminates the suspense that made Warzone soooooo good.

I am interested to try Escalation at some point, though. Seems Gears meets Battlefield; might be cool.

Gears 1 had the benefit that because the game was in control of who could hear who, the dead room was an opportunity for cross-team communication. Plus the audio switched over for them right as they died, which was often pretty funny. Every map had static cameras you could swap between to see the rest of the match play out.

That was, in my eyes, the whole key to social aspect of playing Gears of War. That person would come into the dead room and you would hear the “....uck!” as they entered. And then it was make jokes and laugh while you watch the rest of the team do battle.

Group chat while in game spoils a lot of the strategy aspect of the Single Death playmodes. But, we’ll figure something out. It may have nothing to do with Gears of War, but something always gets figured out when Friday Gears n Beers happens. Har.

I still use game chat (rather than party) in certain games, particularly Apex Legends, where I want to be able to strategize with my randoms.

I agree that it's nice to have it team-only while playing.

Apparently Xbox Live is down. I was on just an hour ago.

Played some last night. I had no issues connecting, I couldn't get results from mp matches but, the game ran perfect, Dakhath even join for some horde mode. I didn't know he was In until he revived me. I don't know if my mic was working or not, something I'll have to fix.

I'm looking for anyone to coop this with on intermediate. My free time is a but wonky but, if you're intered let me know.

I did an Escape game this morning. Pretty fun. I feel like it's more dynamic than Hoarde because you're not turtling up, you're ESCAPING.

It's short too, only took like 10 minutes for the map that I did.

That depends on the team you have. My team kept splitting up and dying.... Well one guy did. The other guy and myself eventually beat it.

About 6 missions in to the campaign on experienced and I hit a wall last night that took me multiple retries hoo boy!!!

I'm hoping to try this tonight since XBL was down last night, but the football games today may hold all of my attention.

As they should! I might see you on later tonight.

Really enjoying this game but it feels like a really good beta more than a launch ready title. I anticipate a few patches in the near future.

There definitely seem like some server and connection issues, but I’ve been extremely impressed by just about everything else. The moment-to-moment singleplayer and multiplayer gameplay has been fantastic.

Been having a ton of fun with the campaign but was a little annoyed when we tried 3 player as one player has to be the robot. It's more like 2.1. It reminded me of the Star B*tch Mario galaxy jokes.

I always forget how natural and smooth the shooting feels. Coming off games like Uncharted and Tomb Raider the GoW gunplay just feels sooo much better.
