Arma 3 Catch All

Me too (not sick)... I really need to replace my headset. I need to get my legs back - should mess around in some KotH.

I'd be up for Thursday night (drunk) ARMA missions!!!!!

I have a gaming laptop now, so I can play when on the road as well, assuming internet holds out.

I HEARD PEOPLE WERE TALKING ABOUT PLAYING ARMA 3 AGAIN. HELLO.

I might be able to commit to a dedicated Thursday group - ARMA or Squad

I'm in for ArmA or Squad too.

Ditto. I'm voting for squad, but I'll play either. Wink, I elect you for squad lead.

I vote ArmA, mostly because I do not own Squad.

I have an extra copy from the humble monthly ($12 for Squad, AND Slay the Spire... how could I say no?) - I was going to give it to my son, but I doubt he could tear himself away from ARMA.

I have both, but vote ARMA for the co-op missions. If we just want to battle it out against each other, then Squad.

Man, good memories of Goodjer Arma nights.

Most importantly...does the new mode have chickens?

I signed up for a dedicated server today, and will work on getting Antistasi Tanoa(island map seems like a fun way to do Antistasi) up and running with some mods. Hopefully I can get it to a good state to kick around in on Thursday night. No guarantees, I'm a fair bit shorter on free time any more.

Do we need to have all of the expansions?

Also, I got a copy of squad today

I think Apex will be the only required expansion...I think. Tanoa will require it anyways.

Darn, guess I'll have to wait until it goes on sale.. not dropping full price on that expansion.

Understandable. I'll set it up for Altis in the beginning here. Day late and a dollar short to take advantage of the Bohemia Interactive Humble Bundle.

I did play a round of Squad and it seems promising. Some real dickheads in there.. but could be great with a group.

A server which I enjoyed in the past was "The Playground". Run by a streamer who goes by DesmoLocke. Advertised as welcoming to newcomers, and I did have a good time there.

Good to know thanks! It wasn't R6 Seige toxic, but for a server that has noobies welcome, they sure were crappy to people that were learning the game.

Wink and I played on that server last night. It was fun, but boy is it tough finding squad leaders that actually want to squad lead.

Ok, I have an Altis Antistasi server up and running. Mods I have running can be found at the following URL:

http://druidsgames.site.nfoservers.c...

I set up a TeamSpeak server to run TaskForceRadio as well. It adds an interesting element to the game where when you get close to an enemy controlled radio tower, comms are scrambled. ctrl-P in-game to bring up the handheld. Once you have the Task Force Radio mod set up on your Arma install, join the TS server, and then join the game server, you should be moved directly to the TaskForceRadio channel automagically.

TS Server is at the following:
druidsts.ts.nfoservers.com

Game Server is at the following address:
druidsgames.game.nfoservers.com
port: 2302

Both use the following password:

Asterisks are to be replaced by the classic GWJ mascot moniker. DM me if more info is needed.

Feel free to hop in, mess around, check it out. I'll do a wipe before Thursday. There's probably some tweaking to do before then. I'll tune my in-game radio's frequency to 30 whenever I'm on, for comms, for now.

I'll link this post in my signature, for future reference.

That's awesome druid! Thanks!
BTW, while everyone is getting arma all configured for Thursday, Motley and I will be on squad tonight at 730 Central. Just hit one of us up and we can all hop in Discord.

Is this going to be a thing? I've missed some good tactical shooter gaming. I've got Squad and ARMA. There are some other good ones out there, but playing with randos is a mixed bag and I'm not dedicated enough to join a clan.

If you're playing squad, use the in-game chat. Also, don't join squads with the default names 'Squad 1' etc. They are usually noob SLs that don't know how to set the squad's name. Also, look at the dispersion of the squad on the minimap before you spawn in. If the squad is all over the place, pick another one. If they're together, they're probably a good squad.

Getting a good SL is pretty hit or miss. The game is AMAZING when you have a good SL and a team that is listening and following orders. That's been about 30% of my games. I've played about 80% on 'New Player Friendly servers' as I've only got about 12 hours into the game. I played on a regular server a couple of days ago and it was a completely different experience. The SLs where WAY better and much more coordinated with each other. Just announce that you're new and you'll follow orders and 90% of the people in the game will help you out. I've actually found it to be one of the least toxic communities I've ever been involved with. As long as you make it clear that you're new. If you come in thinking that you know everything and just do what you want, you'll get yelled at. Often. Which is understandable because you're ruining the game for like 50 other people.

Time to get ARMA all nice and set up. Many thanks, Druid!

On a smaller scale Insurgency:Sandstorm is also a great game to dig into.

Just a little. No clue about current sales, but it has been 50% off and has had free weekends already.

It's squad based like Squad with most of the same roles, but the matches are structured like CoD or BF type maps. So if you're time constrained it fits better. You can get a few cool matches in and see progress except for the other games a match can take FOREVER.

Alright, I reset the "progress" from my running around solo the past few nights. I never really succeeded in doing anything, but I did piss off blufor a bit, so everything should be back to default start state.

For folks new to Antistasi, it wouldn't hurt to maybe take a peak at an antistasi guide. I'll try to piece together some thoughts. Understand I'm very green with this gamemode as well.

You'll need to start as greenfor, someone will need to be the commander, and make your way to the arsenal to gear up. Some resources are finite, until we have collected at least 15 units of that item, then we'll have infinite access. I recommend grabbing an AKMS to start, click on your backpack or uniform, and put some magazines in there. As you play, try to collect weapons and items(NVGs!) and bring to back to base to stock up until we have infinite amounts.

Pressing Y brings up the antistasi menu, where you can interact with various aspects of the game mode. To begin with it's worth getting used to hitting the Go Undercover button.

If you wear civilian clothes, no chest gear, and no helmet you can get away with staying incognito as a civilian. I have a civilian loadout saved, where I keep a rifle in my backpack. This way I can cruise around and scope stuff out without being shot. If the soldiers, or police, have a dog, you'll get sniffed out if you're too close though.

For getting around, you can go up to the flagpole and buy a vehicle. To start you can buy a $50 atv, take it to town, and grab a civilian vehicle to keep yourself under cover. There's towing included, so you can tow the ATV back to base, and store it in your garage by looking at it and pressing Y.

The commander can go up to the dude at base and request different missions. Understand that once you start roughing up a faction, they will eventually start sending counterattacks. Another important task of the commander is to occasionally go up to the map at base, select game options, and select persistent save. I would take on the commander role, but I will be running(literally) and that will have me running late. Whoever hops in first, just choose yes to load persistent save once you're in game, I left it at the starting point.

Concerning Task Force Radio. Be sure to install the mod to your Arma 3 install with the launcher, and also to your teamspeak3 client. Hop into the teamspeak, and just hang out in the "Landing Pad" channel until you're in game. You'll get moved to the TaskForceRadio channel automatically. In game you'll use your VOIP key(Caps Lock) to speak over radio, and your Teamspeak Push to Talk key to speak in direct. Arma 3 voip should be turned off. If not, we'll just need to mute folks in Map->Players, so we don't hear double. Ctrl-P to bring up the handheld radio for programming the frequency.

I'm hopeful that we can pull off some small squad level guerrilla warfare. If not, I don't have anything else loaded up as a backup. Fire up Squad I suppose. I'll see about keeping Discord alerts on my phone up tomorrow.
