I thought I had, but looking back I guess I was thinking of their podcast discussions, not video content.

I haven't watched the new video yet, but assuming they're keeping the same format as the other Hitman videos, Dan is playing the role of Brad's "Coach."

It's definitely some sort of highly complex power-bottom/role-play dynamic.

This week's GB Crime Crew had me crying laughing at my desk at work by around 10 minutes in. It's very good.

Yeah, I done seen me some bugs in GTAO. I done seen me some of those very bugs, like, once. But never that.

Also, that mission sucks a lot. All the guys around the landing spot tend to rip the helicopter team apart before they can do anything about it. I'm surprised they got through it as quickly as they did.

That wasn't a bug, that was almost certainly a hacker.

So, uh, Jeff’s a dad now.

He’s like 7 years older than me. As someone at 35 with a ten month old, I could not imagine mustering the energy to do this at that age for the first time. Hats off to him though.

Yea!

Congrats, Jeff!

It's not too surprising he kept that under wraps, but it's still pretty impressive.

Wow!

It's amazing how much he has kept his private life private. Good for him!

Also good luck trying to game now.

Popular misconception. The first three months or so with your first kid are actually prime gaming time, since they're basically a potato that mostly eats, sleeps, and poops. After that, all bets are off.

The two weeks I took off from work were essentially spent gaming a tonne when not cooking, cleaning, and running errands. Finished Witcher 3: Blood & Wine and SteamWorld Heist during that time.

Exactly this.

The first year or so is actually pretty easy to game in.

The gaming lulls coincide when cognitive advances outstrip physical ones. This is where the “terrible twos” meme comes from: the kid has achieved enough self awareness to know that something is possible, but hasn’t developed the physical acuity to actually do it. This happens roughly every other year until they hit five or six, at which point they’re enough of a fully realized person that they can amuse themselves or play games with you.

I predict that Jeff’s kid will love Mario party and JRPGs, and much hilarity will ensue.

Also, what’s the timeline for everyone here to start complaining about Jeff 2.0 and how the Bombcast has gotten crappy since they were introduced?

I look forward to the change of heart admission that Yoshi's Island is the best platformer ever made.

It is always very annoying to me when someone sends the same question to both the Bombcast and Beastcast and both podcasts read and discuss them, as happened this week with the waffle fries/curly fries question. People, don't do this! Pick your shot and live with it. I am slightly surprised that none of the Beastcast crew had listened to the west coast podcast already and realized what had happened, but I suppose I don't use my leisure time to read work that my coworkers do that is similar to mine, so I get it. (Also, I feel some of these food and bathroom emails are getting to be overdone on the same scale as the City/State/Country Beef Emails were a few years back.)

Don't forget the "My [somebody] doesn't watch the content but hears the podcasts and here's what they think everyone looks like..." nonsense that kicked it all off.

They've always gone in dumb cycles over stuff like this. The bathroom, fast food, and other stuff is really not interesting or funny and just plain gross.

They really need to do something with UPF. Jeff holds that show together and with Jeff gone, they're completely spinning their wheels.

I love the beastcast still but I feel like I've grown out of the content or it just doesn't tickle me the same way it used to. I tried reupping my sub to catch up on some premium content and short of the retro runs Vinny and Dan were doing none of the other series held my attention.

I think all the new additions they have made to the crew have been really solid, especially Abby who I find really funny. Content wise though I'm just not finding any of their stuff grabbing me lately.

Anyone got any suggestions for really great newer features?

Ben and Jason are doing some good stuff with You're Gonna Finish It [?] and Asura's Wrath.
Blood Spell was a treat.

I like most of what the East Crew puts out. I don't think about it too hard though.

I like all of the effort the East Crew put into their production. The first episode of Burgle My Bananas has a great intro but, unfortunately, Donkey Kong 64 is a mind-numbingly boring game. I really liked Crime Crew and the episodes were short. Grapes and Wrath is good becasue Asura's Wrath is a great game to play for other people to watch. There's the new Vinnyvania and he's really enjoying the stupidity of Bloodstained. When Vinny is happy, I'm happy.

Honestly, I dunno. I've been a GB fan from the start, followed Jeff over etc, Premium on day 1, and I probably watch maybe one piece of content a week now, skip most of the Bombcast, and even the Beastcast is losing me somewhat.

Obviously I miss the great old days with Ryan hosting the podcast. I was fine with the coastal podcast split for a while, but I am starting to think that merging them back together or something would be better. Jeff & Vinny is just too magical a combination to squander. Jeff's comedic timing makes everyone else he podcasts with better, and there are certain staffers whom I feel only really shine when they have him to bounce off of.

I don't intend this as a diss to them or anything, as I certainly have no business podcasting. Even I wouldn't listen.

I was going to end this with a recommendation for a feature, but looking back the last thing I watched on GB was the Game Tapes from August 12th.

So watch Game Tapes?

I've definitely grown weary of Bombcast lately (no Jeff certainly doesn't help, although the various non-Rorie guests have been pretty good), but I still enjoy the Beastcast a lot--though I think some of the recurring digressions lately have grown tiresome, I generally still appreciate their discussion of games and gaming news. I like their videos but I don't have time to watch all the free stuff, much less the paid stuff. I get into random series that strike my fancy (Metal Gear Scanlon, Exquisite Corps, Abby's Sims thing, Mass Alex, the GTA thing, all their Hitman stuff) but stuff like UPF and other more regular content I'm just never going to have time for. I keep up my premium membership out of affection for the site more than any actual need for a membership.

I'm really enjoying the PlayDates for Resident Evil 4. It might just be because I've never played it, but watching Abby freak out and Dan's face as she goes into rooms without a care firing wildy is really fun. Plus, Dan is surprisingly not annoying for the most part. It's fun to see him not be the heel and just sit back watching with excitement as someone plays a game he really loves.

Thanks for all the suggestions, I'll see if any of those grab my interest. I miss the old days of Ryan and everyone being in the same office as well. It also used to seem like a much small less professional outlit back then as well.

Not that it's changed that much but it does feel a little more corporate or something now, people seem to mind their P's and Q's alot more. I often wonder how long until they are no longer allowed to drink during streams or podcasts now as I'm sure there are some questionable factors with that as well (not that it's needed).

I guess I've just watched a bit of older content and listened to a few older podcasts they did and feel like that spoke to my sensibilities alot more then current GB does. Maybe I'm just getting older and watching other people play games isn't as much my thing anymore.

Hm, I dunno, I don't see the more corporate, minding their Ps and Qs, thing. I was just thinking this morning, as I am working from home with my 7 year old who doesn't start school until tomorrow, that I really wish they had some designated SFW content. I watched the Quick Look of Control while my daughter was in the other room, and just every time there was an F-bomb, I felt like such an old man, thinking "did they really need to say that? would the video be worse in any way if they just didn't curse?" I see the Ancestors quicklook staring at me from their homepage and part of me thinks it would actually be a pretty entertaining one for my daughter to see, but I have to assume it will not be appropriate viewing.

I haven't listened to Bombcast in a few weeks... Is Jeff off for good or is this still paternity leave?

Still paternity.

Yeah could be just me, I guess I don't mean the swearing so much as it doesn't seem as edgy. Listening to the old casts vs the new was when I noticed. It could also just be the dynamic the original cast had together and the energy Ryan brought that feels different.

Like I said it might just be content that isn't hitting me the same any more since I've gotten older. I have been listening since the beginning and the podcast used to be something I'd never miss. I rarely listen to the bombcast now and maybe only the beastcast once or twice a month.

Ryan was just straight up a better host than anybody else on staff. He just was.

That's not meant as an insult to the other staff. But Brad constantly kills tangents too quickly. Jeff lets them go on too long. Vinny is, well Vinny, so he's great... but not Ryan great.

Ryan just knew exactly what he was doing.

West Coast has pretty much always been a little dull to me since the split. Once Drew left that was the last person I had that delivered content that suited my tastes. I like the rest of the guys and still tune in because it can be fun to listen to their conversations but as far as content goes it's just not my thing half the time.

As far as the Beastcast I really, really, miss Austin. The Vinny, Alex, Austin trio has been by far my favorite trio in terms of content and discussions. Not that I don't like the current dynamic. I still watch every playdate and a lot of the quick looks.
