Of course it’s okay! It was super cool that you did that at all.

Agreed!

Thanks a bunch for the kind words, folks. You’re all awesome. <3

As a one-time "winner," I'm ok with no one else getting free games.

But yeah, it was super cool you did it at all. Your generosity is outstanding in an already-great community.

I'm a day early, but the weekend is going to be a little crazy on my end, so here we go! The survey for the 10th game is now live and the poll will close at midnight on July 27th. General descriptions below with playtime estimates from HLTB (How Long To Beat).

  • Her Story (2015, HTLB 3) - An interactive story driven game in which you piece together different video clips of interviews conducted to solve the case of a missing man.
  • Botanicula (2012, HLTB 4) - Charming puzzle game with zany music and characters that will give you the warm fuzzies.
  • Loom (1990, HLTB 3) - A classic. It does away with the verb interface and uses the beautiful music of Tchaikovsky's Swan Lake. With three difficulty levels, it's accessible even for those who aren't musically inclined.
  • The Red Strings Club (2018, HLTB 5) - A cyberpunk adventure game which deals with themes such as date, happiness, bartending and the extensive use of poetry. It defies description, by all accounts, truly something special.
  • Night in the Woods (2017, HLTB 12) - This gorgeous adventure game (art by goodjer Scott "Bombsfall" Benson) tells the story of a young woman named Mae who recently dropped out of college and now returns to her hometown. As she reconnects with childhood friends, she realizes the times have changed and not all is as she remembered...
  • Technobabylon (2015, HLTB 10) - Set in the cyberpunk city of Newton, the game tasks you with helping Latha Sesame uncover the truth about a recent attempt on her life. In a world where technology allows acces to the Trance, a virtual reality system people become addicted to, all is not what it seems.
  • Blackwell Convergence (2009, HLTB 3) - Picking up six months after the events of the first game, the third installment in the Blackwell games centers once more on Rosa as she investigates three more cases. Those cases and the people involved in them will allow to shed more light on the motivations of one creepy old woman her aunt had a run-in with back in the day...
  • Subsurface Circular (2017, HLTB 3) - Mostly text based, but with a third-person perspective, you play as a robot detective investifating the disappearances of a number of robots. As you travel in the Subsurface Circular (a subway for all intents and purposes), you will meet many different robotos or "Teks." Really enjoyed this one, it went on my GOTY list back in 2017.
  • King's Quest 5: Absence Makes the Heart Go Yonder (1990, HLTB 8) - The fifth installment in the famous King's Quest series of adventure games, this was the first game to replace the typing interface with a point and click interface. As King Graham returns from a stroll in the forest, he is shocked to discover his castle, along with his entire family, has vanished! He sets out on a quest to rescue them all from an evil wizard...
  • Eleima's Pick: Silence (2017, HLTB 6) - Another game from Daedalic, this one is actually a sequel and follow young Renie as she finds her way in a magical realm stuck between life and death. I decided to make this one my pick, because the RNG had never singled it out, and my experience with Daedalic games has been extremely positive (they developed Memoria, published A New Beginning and Ken Follett's Pillars of the Earth).

Remember to vote, everyone!

Twelve votes already, delightful! And the results are not really what I expected, but since I think the selection is dynamite regardless, it's gonna be an awesome August!

I am positive Botanicula won't lose for the fourth month in a row. Positive!

Here's hoping!!! In today's fun facts, I'm positively amazed for Godzilla Blitz, who knew exactly what to vote for and completed the survey in 20 seconds! Feels like a record (it is for the current survey, don't know if it is, overall).
Fourteen responses so far, and we have a tie for first, so....

Ha! I thought I was slow. I think I mistyped my name once.

TBH, I used the list posted above in this thread to go through the games, so by the time I opened the survey I knew what I wanted to pick.

I did not know this was timed.

I will try to do better.

There ought to be some rubber duck puzzle you needed to solve before you were allowed to vote.

Hehe. I know you know it’s not timed, it’s just one piece of data that’s logged in and I thought it was funny.

I’ll try to think of something next time Shadout, but unlike the games, I actually want you to finish.

The polls have closed and the results are as follows, my friends... The tenth game of the GWJ Adventure Game club is.......

Night in the Woods!

With 20 participants casting 66 votes, folks voted for 3.3 games on average, slightly less compared to last time (3.4). Night in the Woods came in first with a clear margin of 11 votes (55.0%).
Blackwell Convergence came in second place, again, with 8 votes (40.0%).
No fewer than FOUR games shared third place, each earning 7 votes (35.0%): Her Story, Botanicula, Technobabylon and King's Quest 5.
Three games tied for fifth place (5 votes, 25.0%): The Red Strings Club, Subsurface Circular and Silence. Finally, Loom comes in sixth with 4 votes (20.0%).

The thread for the game is over this way. Have fun!

Yay! Excellent. I’ve really been wanting to play that this one but needed the push to get me going.

Woohoo! The one game I voted for got the nod!

This will be a replay, for me, but I feel like I left much undone (alternate paths) in my first two playthroughs.

Ooh nice. I got this for Switch a while ago, and have probably played like 5-6 hours, but haven't finished it. This will be good motivation to get there.

I feel it should play pretty well on the Switch, in my limited (Mario Kart) experience.

It's been a little chaotic around these parts so I forgot to vote, but I've been looking forward to playing this so hooray! Now to decide which platform and go get it.

New vote coming up in a few days!!! Who’s excited? Because I’m excited!

*Waves arm* I am! Wonder what delights we’ll get to chose from this week.

August is almost done and it's almost time to go back to school! But before that, The survey for the 11th game is now live and the poll will close at midnight on August 27th. General descriptions below with playtime estimates from HLTB (How Long To Beat).

  • Contradiction - Spot the Liar! (2015, HLTB 7) - This is one of the few FMV games on our list, and it follows the investigation of Detective Inspector Frederick Jenks into the apparent suicide of Kate Vine in the small village of Edenton.
  • The Book of Unwritten Tales 2 (2016, HLTB 20) - "The game's four protagonists, Wilbur a novice gnome mage, Nate a narcissistic human, Ivo an elf princess and a furry alien creature known as "Critter", partake in an adventure in the fantasy land of Aventasia. A magic force is turning beasts into puppies and castles into dollhouses."
  • The First Tree (2017, HLTB 2) - A beautiful, 3rd-person exploration game centered around two parallel stories: a fox trying to find her missing family, and a son reconnecting with his estranged father in Alaska. Uncover artifacts from the son's life as he becomes intertwined in the fox’s journey towards The First Tree.
  • Resonance (2012, HLTB 9) - When a brilliant particle physicist dies unexpectedly, the race is on to secure his terrible new technology before it falls into the wrong hands. The lives of four playable characters become entangled as they fight against the clock to find the dead scientist’s secret vault.
  • Dreamfall: The Longest Journey (2006, HLTB 14) - The sequel to Longest Journey focuses on Zoe, a young woman returning to her home in Casablanca after dropping out of college in Cape Town. Her life feels rudderless until her old flame Reza disappears. As she investigates, she learns about the worlds of Stark and Arcadia, and those that would bring the worlds into chaos.
  • Zork: Nemesis (1996, HLTB 6) - Travel through five mind-bending worlds to discover the ancient secret of Alchemy that will free the trapped souls from evil’s grip... Do you dare enter the Forbidden Lands? Beyond a doubt, it's STILL my favorite adventure game of all time.
  • Syberia (2002, HLTB 10) - When the owner of a large toy company dies, lawyer Kate Walker must find her brother in get the affairs in order. He's not all that easy to find though, and her search takes her on quite the journey.
  • King's Quest 6: Heir Today, Gone Tomorrow (1992, HLTB 8) - The sixth installment of the famous King's Quest series, this critically acclaimed game was one of the first Jane Jensen worked on. It was one of the first games in the genre to offer multiple endings.
  • Night of the Rabbit (2013, HLTB 12) - A point-and-click adventure video game developed and published by Daedalic Entertainment (excellent track record!), this game invites you to join young Jerry and follow a peculiar white rabbit to the wondrous realm of Mousewood, a land where critters can speak and where mystery abounds.
  • Eleima's Pick : Blackwell Convergence (2009, HLTB 3) - That's right, I'm nominating this game, because I'm eager to jump back into Rosa's story. Picking up six months after the events of the first game, the third installment in the Blackwell games centers once more on Rosa as she investigates three more cases. Those cases and the people involved in them will allow to shed more light on the motivations of one creepy old woman her aunt had a run-in with back in the day...

Vote over here, everyone!

Voted!

Indeed, a few of you have already! Jeep them votes comin’ in, this is fascinating.

Keeping my fingers crossed everyone makes the correct choice to support FMV in 2019

Tough choice between games I own and games I might rather play but would require a purchase. Stuck to the former this time. Not sure if made the "correct" choice, but I did vote for one title with FMV...

Aw, I forgot Zork Nemesis has FMV too...I would accept that, but as someone who has wanted to play Contradiction forever but hasn't found the motivation, I'm hoping we can all get behind Detective Jenks! But lots of good choices here, only a few of which I've already played.

Awww, and here I thought you were all talking about Zork Nemesis, MY FAVORITE ADVENTURE GAME of all time.

I will never NOT vote for Nemesis, given the option.

*clap*clap* Okay, listen up folks, I know it's still summer vacation and all, but I've only got 13 votes in, so let's keep them coming!
