New TV Season 2018-19

I guess I missed it but The Rookie got renewed back in May. Just saw an article this weekend about the ABC fall schedule and it's moving to Sunday night at 10.

Good, I've been really enjoying it.

My god I love Legion! It's so f*cking good!

Season 3 of Stranger Things was great! Much improved from season 2. Thank God!

Au revoir, Gotham. It's funny to think that no matter how crazy Gotham got at times, it was always more grounded than any of the other (CW) DC Comics shows (which all featured magic, alternate dimensions, and time travel).

Anyone check out the The Boys yet on Amazon? We'll binge it tonight.

Didn't know it was out. Have been looking forward to it.

I'll be checking out at least a couple of episodes this weekend.

I watched the first two episodes and am really enjoying it, although much of the early plot revolves around a fridging and an unrelated sexual assault. That carries directly from the comics though, otherwise it’s toned down quite a bit. There’s also a much heavier emphasis on giving the point of view of the superheroes rather than just being about The Boys, it works really well and probably gives the most realistic example yet of what the world would be like with actual superheroes. Looking forward to watching the rest.

I watched the first episode and a half and enjoyed it. Karl Urban always does a good job of portraying characters that really enjoy their work. Of killing.

Final credits rolled on Veronica Mars for me. Full disclosure, my fandom level is "Kickstarter Contributor," but... I cussing loved it. May be the ideal case for a series revival--it feels of a piece with the seasons that came before, but also feels fresh and vital. Bell has said she'd like to play Veronica into Murder She Wrote age, and I'll be there for it.

And, man, bold moves. Bold in ways that aren't going to make people happy. Like, people in general and also very specific people I can name. But necessary and exciting.

The Boys is awesome and very dark. Like real-world dark, especially if you take the Supes as allegories for anyone with power and celebrity. It isn't as funny as I thought it would be from the trailers. I thought it would Happy amusing and it is not, though it still has its moments.

It reminds me very much of a more adult version of Brandon Sanderson's series The Reckoners.

I'm really enjoying The Boys. From superhero fatigue, comes superhero deconstruction. Yeah, it is really dark.

I'm getting this absurdly overhyped vibe from the 90's American Gladiators.

One thing I really liked was

Spoiler:

How the show/comic rationalizes No supes in the army; armies prefer weapons because arms dealers make the best lobbyist because senators need jobs for their states. A couple of Homelander-caliber supes could take the entire weapons industry running for its lunchmoney.

What shook me to my boots was

Spoiler:

the airplane scene on episode 4. That's the current episode I'm on. I needed a breather after that. That scene is __king brutal. What I didn't quite understand is if Homelander couldn't save the plane or if he couldn't be bothered to save the plane

.

I have to say, The Boys ended strong and I can't wait for Season 2.

The scene with The Deep and the lobster was awesome.

I watched the first episode of The Boys yesterday, and before the day ended I had watched the entire season. I really enjoyed the show! I hope they get a season 2.

I agree 100%. Such a great season. JK Simmons was unsurprisingly incredible.

They already did I believe.

Yeah- During Comic-con last week they announced that Season 2 was already in production.
Supposedly they started filming sometime in June so it might drop early next year.

True, but it does feel a little redundant after the porpoise.

I think it shows that he's still very much an idiot. But yeah, I was laughing very hard during the dolphin scene while my wife looked on in horror.

Finish Cobra Kai season 2. Liked it the same as season one. The last episode was the best again for this season. Production quality is still pretty low but I didn't mind it.

Survivor AU is pretty good this season. I'm not caught up but they had a nice idol twist.

Anyone interested in the Starz series The Rook and had previously read the book you may want to steer clear.

It's been a while since I've seen a case of missing the source material as bad as this. Which is surprising because O'Malley actually had writing credits for the show itself.

They took the main character and turned into a scared, sometimes simpering mess instead of the strong character in the book. They also did away with the cool premise of 2 combative states of super power groups over the ages and instead devolve into CW level of office romances and a weak story of human trafficking.

Extremely disappointing.

Boo! How do you mess that up!?

Thanks for the heads up. I was thinking about picking up Starz just to check it out since I loved the books. I'll give it a real hard look before I do anything.

oh, it's easy, all you need to do is

See? easy!

When I saw the trailer, something felt "off". Like the trailer screaming, begging for you to notice how much intrigue and backstabbing there will be.

Is the show passable for someone that has never read the books?

Maybe? It's no where as deep as Counterpoint. The designs and cinematography is on par with that and makes you think you're going to see that level of a show, but it never comes close.

The finale to Elementary was very satisfying. I was just disappointed that

Spoiler:

Natalie Dormer didn't reprise her role.

Cobra Kai is free now on youtube. If all the youtube shows aren't free now they will be soon. Strike first, strike hard, no mercy.

I'm really liking season two of The Terror. The funny thing is that the ghost story isn't as interesting as the plight of the Japanese people being placed in camps.

Black Jesus returns to Adult Swim on 9/20. Seems like season 1 was a hundred years ago. A couple of the high end actors aren't coming back.
