Hidden Gems of Netflix's Watch Instantly

Watched episode one of "The Wu Assassins" it was good enough that I will continue watching this weekend. As one reviewer put it, it's not great, but it is what Iron Fist should have been.

I want to watch it. I’m a fan of Iko Uwaise from The Raid (which is incredible but extremely violent)

At the moment I’m into the Ip Man movies. Well. I’ve watched the first one. Are there any decent Kung fu movies anyone can recommend? I have a low tolerance for wire fu.

Fist of legend is incredible. Jet Li at his best, before trying to come to Hollywood. I am not sure it is on Netflix though.

I’ll keep an eye out for it. Thanks.

I have a lot of love for Kung Fu Hustle - less Crouching Tiger, more, uhh... Looney Toons? English dub is pretty good.

Halfway through season 3 of GLOW and episode 5 was bonkers. Probably the most I've enjoyed the actual wrestling match all season. We'll see where the back half goes the rest of the weekend.

The Wu Assassins was a fun watch. Not the best show but enjoyable.

Spoilers for the end.

Spoiler:

I just wanted to see more monk faces since that was a very cool idea and I wanted him to summon the monks/prior assassins to fight by his side.

I was so mad he did not take all the future stuff from the body. Think of the timeline buddy.

Finished it as well. Pretty much the same conclusion - enjoyed it, probably wouldn't invest the time to watch it again though. Assuming there's a season 2, will be interesting to see where they go.

If you liked Kung Fu Hustle, you should check out Shaolin Soccer.

Yeah, out of Stephen Chow's comedy movies I've seen (Shaolin Soccor, Kung Fu Hustle, CJ7, Journey to the West: Conquering the Demons, and The Mermaid), I still think Shaolin Soccer is the most hilarious.

Watched The12th Man. It was very, very good. Incredible story from WW2 but maybe wear a jumper while watching, and gloves, and a woolly hat, and three pairs of socks.

Spoken like someone who has never seen Fight Back to School, All for the Winner, or Love on Delivery.

Jane the Virgin S5 is now on Netflix. The first episode had an incredible monologue delivered by Gina Rodriguez with great staging. I'm glad she's able to show her range more.

I was actually talking about ones he wrote.

I watched that episode today. That scene was amazing.

I finished GLOW season 3. I enjoyed it, it had some good moments, and some interesting things to say, but overall it felt a little uneven. Still hoping for season 4 (and beyond) as I really enjoy all the characters here. One thing that surprised me was it seemed like there was double or triple the sex/nudity in this season than the first two combined- not a complaint, just a general warning if you tend to watch the show with other family members.

One spoilerly opinion on GLOW season 3

Spoiler:

I do wish they'd kept Ruth and Sam as a platonic relationship and left the romance angle out. They're much better as friends that slightly annoy each other, IMO.

Finished tonight. And episode 10 was another highlight match!

Tscott is right. The sex and nudity quotient was upped a ton. Lots of breasts, butts, and a penis thrown in for good measure.

Just started the previously mentioned Wu Assassins. First scene/fight has the best (tongue-in-cheek) Batman homage ever:

Badly Beaten Man: “Who are you?”

Hero: “I’m a chef!”

The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance

So... if Age of Resistance is a prequel, don't we know from the outset that the gelflings will fail? And since the gelflings can see the future, don't they know that too? I'm confused.

Also, obligatory...

Season 2 of The Sinner is up, this show has been kinda under the radar but it deserves more attention, it's a police procedural with a twist, we know from the first episode who the season's killer is, but Bill Pullman's character has to find out the complicated why, while fighting his own demons. A few episodes in and the second season is just as compelling as the first.

Finished Jane the Virgin and now I don't know what to do with my time on Netflix. Damn onions.

After binging the first season, we watched the second season as it aired. I'd say season 2 is even more interesting. And, man, Carrie Coon is intense. The series is a great take on the police procedural.

For some reason, I thought I had seen that there was a supernatural element to the first season, and the crime is strange enough, that we got halfway through the season waiting for an exorcism that was never coming before realizing this was not that kind of show. So, that was odd.

Bill Pullman is just fantastic in both seasons. He does a hell of a tortured soul looking for justice.

Hey, that was Columbo's schtick. Though he wasn't a tortured detective, just a detective with an excess of personality. Loved that show growing up because the fun wasn't figuring out whodunit, but rather watching the mind of a brilliant detective at work.

Columbo is incredible. I still hope I might find an episode I haven’t seen but it’s unlikely. I’ll watch any episode again that I feel like I’ve seen fewer than half a dozen times.

I tried The Sinner but it didn’t take. I’ll give it another go. It certainly seems to have potential.

This might seem like it's out of left field, but fans of Columbo would serve themselves well to checkout "Death In Paradise". Granted, it also has a "Murder She Wrote" vibe - since there's an awful lot of murder on a tiny little island, but it's similar to Columbo in that a genius, or at least highly observant quirky detective is faced with a small handful of suspects and it's more about figuring out how a locked room murder was performed than who did it (one immediately leading to the other).

Ah, Death in Paradise - BBC Sunday afternoon (even if it does go out on a Wednesday evening I think) comfort television it can do so well when it puts its mind to it. However it is somethings of a "British thesp's get trip to Caribbean Island at licence payers expense" circuit.

Very much a guilty pleasure

Finally got around to watching Train to Busan. Outstanding movie. And I am not a fan of zombie movies.
