Rebel Galaxy Outlaw - Privateering-All

I'm enjoying it. I have upgraded to the Sandora, the next tier ship. I'm playing with the mouse & keyboard, utilizing the Flight Assist quite a bit.

The Sandora has a turret slot and I just bought my first turret but I haven't used it yet. Do turrets fire on their own? I can't find any system controls for it.

I believe Veloxi covered it in one of his live streams, but basically turrets are automatic.

Yeah turrets fire on their own if you're not manning them. They're grreeeeeeaaaat.

Sweet. Just won a new ship weapon in a game of pool.

Thanks to cryptosporidiosis, a waterborne parasite I'll be playing more of this over the next few days.

I Googled. Sounds dreadful. Can I borrow it? I promise to put it to similar good use.

What? The man has a skull in his avatar. I'm sure he'll tough it out..

Yeah apparently we all picked it up at the end of the year swim team party. Most of the team is out and this was the first week of school. The health department even got involved - good times.

Yuck, you guys are worse than the theater kids.
I'd wish you a speedy recovery, but games.

Thanks to cranky kids and falling asleep in the baby's room I only got to play for a little while last night... first impression: Yay.
Second impression: I'm not sure if I will be able to stick with using a controller. Maybe it's MY controller or how it's configured, but I had to do the thing that I have to do with every game I've played with controller that requires precise aiming. Wiggling and niggling the reticule with the thumb stick and spending seconds on each stationary target. It got a little better once I fought some Pirates, but the auto-aiming felt a bit too permissive. It didn't feel like I'd earned my kills. I might need to restart on a higher difficulty and at least try flying with a joystick.

I was playing with an Xbox controller last night and was initially opposed to using the LT auto-chase and auto-target, thinking that it was too “cheaty”, but then I immersed myself mentally more into the world and decided that computers are going to get way better in the future, and this is the logical natural progression of Tesla-style autopilot.

Also, I decided i wanted the combat to play out more as an arcade shooter than as a space sim, and that’s just fine by me. Pewpewpew!

I can attest that playing pool is miserable with the m&k. It takes so much scrolling to pick another shot than the one they set you up with.

I might end up there, but last night I did three mine clearing missions in the same outing. That's probably why it felt more frustrating than it should have. Also that was before I looked up throttle controls so I was zipping through the field while trying to line up targets.

Edit:
About how long do the 8 ball matches run? I only tried the quick games to maximize flying time before I passed out. Slots are... meh. Dice are... Yahtzee!

For anyone wanting to use mouse and keyboard, the subreddit is reporting a lot of improvement - with a few saying it's actually better than using a X360 controller - by remapping to the following setup:

Mouse Sensitivity: 60-65
Deadzone: 15
Throttle Up: W
Throttle Down: S
Roll Left: A
Roll Right: D
Afterburner: Space

How do you fire your secondary weapon (missiles in my case)?

How do you target mines?

Both frustrations I experienced during this morning's outing...

Im just using a HOTAS w/ zero issues.

The Xbox One Elite controller is perfect for this. Remapped the afterburners to one of the configurable triggers and it feels so good.

The game really doesn’t tutorial anything. Took me way too long to figure out how to open the galaxy map. I used a mine clearing mission as a way to figure out how to slow down and speed up.

I love that I can fast travel to waypoints. Really makes intersystem deliveries worthwhile early on.

This is the only complaint I have with the game.

Mine's target with the "follow" button just like anything else, but you have to be in range of them. Use your scanner and then look at your radar and fly in the appropriate direction. Once you get close enough, the follow button will lock-on to them just like a ship.

What system are you playing on? On PC, missiles are... square button I believe. Regardless, you can confirm the proper button by pulling up the controller or keyboard mapping in the Settings menu.

It's only on PC right now but it's supposed to have prompts for both XB1/PS4 inputs.

I agree with the 8bit graphics for settings. Very hard to read and is jarring. I am on 3840x1440. Hard to see the gamepad mapping too.

I'm going to start over, played like 15 min and got destroyed. I wish the graphics were a bit better and smoother. But loving what I played so far.

I have an Xbox controller on my PC so for me missiles are the X button.

Right now I'm considering moving from my controller to a flightstick though (mine is a Cyborg EVO; it's got a throttle and twist axis but is not a fancy HOTAS stick). I find I can't be accurate enough with the thumbstick and the autofollow isn't very interesting. Still having a pretty good time so far running around doing side missions to build up my ship before starting the main missions.

I haven't completely played around with all of the display settings, but try the following. At the pre-launch settings, turn off the "Movie Grain" setting. I think there's was one I also turned off, but I'm at work and can't remember what it was... It doesn't do a ton of difference for the internal ship display, but if you're in 3rd person it removes most (not all) of the old school pixilation.

On PC with XB controller. No "square" button. Primary weapons (laser I started with and a nice Tracer I won at pool) seem straight forward. Right trigger to fire. Secondary weapons, I've no idea. Got lock a few times but no way to fire the HM missiles. Nothing obvious on the mapping screen.

Maybe I need to perform a scan first, but they weren't showing up on radar and I couldn't "next target" them. Sure, the follow button worked once you got close to them, but if you weren't it was hard to know which direction to fly in.

X button on Xbox controller to fire missiles.

Y button, then hold left on the stick, then press A to do a local-range radar scan. That should detect mines and other things.

Shift on m&k.

So what's up with the communication menu? Is it slowing down time or just screwing up my maneuverability for no damn reason?

There is a 40 minute video that's basically how to spend your first hour that's a tutorial. It's embedded in the Epic launcher in the site entry for the game.

Slowing time.

Any tips for combat? Im getting my ass kick with average difficulty pirate missions. I even won the tracer gun from pool.

Don't suck?
But really, I'm having the same issue. The homing missiles have helped some.
