[News] Post a Political News Story

Ongoing discussion of the political news of the day. This thread is for 'smaller' stories that don't call for their own thread. If a story blows up, please start a new thread for it.

I'm gonna spoiler this and leave it here just as a reminder of exactly who Jordan Peterson is and why No, The Left should not be trying to emulate him.

Spoiler:

Hmmm. I have opinions on this.

Can we as Western society promote a male identity that is not hopelessly intertwined with toxic masculinity?

"My husband/boyfriend will stop beating me if I just try to understand what he's going through and try to placate his feelings."

The Denver Post wrote:

Federal agents have arrested a 29-year-old Boulder man on a pornography charge, and the U.S. attorney in Colorado said the arrest may have prevented a domestic terrorist attack because the man also is suspected of writing an online guide on how to commit violent hate crimes against refugee centers, synagogues and mosques.

Wesley David Gilreath was charged Tuesday with possession of child pornography, but federal law officers also arrested him in order to potentially stop a domestic terror attack, according to a statement by U.S. Attorney Jason Dunn.

...

In denying Gilreath’s pre-trial release, [Magistrate Judge Scott] Varholak wrote in a detention order that by “clear and convincing evidence” the suspect is dangerous to the community and a flight risk. The judge noted that federal prosecutors verbally offered supplemental information about Gilreath at the bond hearing.

“He had searches for a book that is a guide to gaining children’s trust,” Varholak’s order said of Gilreath. “He also had numerous white supremacist documents and paraphernalia. He had posted a ‘hunters’ guide,’ which contained information about mosques and synagogues. He had other lists with local mosque and synagogue addresses.”

Judge Varholak noted in his order that Gilreath had recently attempted to purchase a gun and had previously failed multiple times to appear for court hearings.

In January, an FBI agent allegedly confirmed that Gilreath posted a so-called “Montana Hunting Guide” online after the FBI received a tip that someone was posting hunting guides targeting Jews, Muslims, Montana National Guard facilities, Bureau of Land Management offices and a refugee center, according to an arrest warrant affidavit.

Such guides may be used to violently target people of different ethnicities, religions or political views, the arrest warrant affidavit said.

Gilreath was not arrested at the time.

Gilreath was only caught because the boy genius of the master race left his daddy's iPhone, which he had been using and was stuffed to the gills with violent child pornography, on a Regional Transportation District bus.

I don’t think the issue is that the Left isn’t trying to reach out to men- there are plenty of people and groups specifically doing that, it’s basically one of the primary motivations behind Breadtube and the Dirtbag Left movement.
The problem is that leftists aren’t as organized or as well-funded and so far haven’t been able to compete on the same level. Take a look at Charlie Kirk or Steven Crowder, for instance. Both are absolutely, vapidly talentless hacks, but both are also popular and have massive followings simply because they both have backers with bottomless pockets that allow them to operate on a scale that even the most popular leftist media like Contrapoints or Chapo Trap House can’t match.
It would go a long way if we had our own Koch Bros equivalent to pump money into Leftist media, but since most of us are varying degrees of anticapitalist that’s probably not going to happen. I can’t imagine there are many billionaires willing to fund movements that are actively working against them.

I know. Given he supposedly runs an international leftist cabal you really don't see the money rolling in the way you'd expect.

Quick sidenote, why has Canada been churning out so many right-wing/far-right pundits recently?

Because they're sick and tired of having a great healthcare system and having it interfere with their efforts in North American Race to the Bottom 2019?

Nazi terrorist attacks in the US have been getting more successful.

CNN: Racial slurs and swastika found at scene of house explosion in Ohio, sheriff says
Police investigate Wayne County home explosion as possible hate crime

WAYNE COUNTY, Ohio (WOIO) - Cellphone video taken moments after the explosion in Sterling show that almost immediately, the home of Brad and Angela Frase was going to be a complete loss.

It’s a fact that Angela recognized immediately.

“We got here and this is what we saw, but it was in flames, you know? It was done, there was nothing that could be saved” she told 19 News.

The Frases, an interracial couple who lived there for 23 years, saw something else: A misshapen swastika on a garage and blue spray-painted racial slurs on two of the neighbor’s cars.

“I got sick twice. That is what happened. It was like this didn’t just happen. I don’t understand it,” said Angela.

Because a large number of my fellow Canadians who have traditionally been on the losing end of things (as right-wing bigots should be) have seen the success and rise to power of the Alt-Right in the US, and figure "If it works there, why not here??"

Of course, that US politics is a aberration on the world-wide political scheme on how right-skewed it is, and that most Canadians, even those of a more conservative bent, are well to the left of all but the most radical US democrats hasn't really sunk into their brains yet.

It's being reported that Epstein has died by suicide. Another depraved monster that couldn't bare the thought of being held accountable for their behaviour. I'm not sure how they even made this possible, given that he was a known suicide risk.

Jeffery Epstein is dead.

The Guardian: Jeffrey Epstein killed himself in prison, report says: Wealthy financier accused of sex trafficking, 66, has killed himself in prison, according to a report by ABC News

I'm having trouble connecting to the ABC article. I don't know if it's just on my end but I'm getting Cloudfront errors, which suggest ridiculously high traffic.

A ton of documents from an earlier lawsuit were released last night:
The Guardian: Jeffrey Epstein: large tranche of files released in Ghislaine Maxwell lawsuit: Files made public in case of British socialite may contain extra details of allegations against Epstein and his political connections
The 2000 pages of files are out in public now and contain accusations about many famous and powerful people, including former New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson; Prince Andrew of Britain; former Senate Majority Leader George Mitchell; "hedge funder Glenn Dubin, late MIT scientist Marvin Minsky, modeling company founder Jean Luc-Brunel, the owner of large hotel chain, and another prince."

I don’t believe it was suicide

I guarantee that within the next week a prominent conservative talking head will claim Hillary had him killed.

You and a lot of other people.

He had an earlier suicide attempt, he was on suicide watch, if he did commit suicide this was a major, major screw-up. Or someone deliberately looked the other way.

It’s going to be hard for millions of Americans to *not* become full-on conspiracy theorists as a result of this.

From the moment he was arrested I thought that if any of the rumors were true, a lawless and unaccountable Trump DOJ would be the one to tie up the loose ends for all interested parties.

It is sad you can even get a chance to commit suicide while in custody. Especially before a trial.

Suicides happen frequently in US jails, so this could just be another symptom of abject failures in our justice system, to go along with all of the other abject failures this case has involved.

That said, "we're bad at our jobs and let inhumane things happen on our watch" isn't not really a great position for the people in charge of the prison to be taking. I hope there are through investigations and appropriate consequences.

The Illuminati on both sides had him killed.

(I don't know whether I'm being serious or not. )

I'm as surprised by his death as he was.

I'm sure this will be investigated with the level of competence, integrity, and transparency as the alleged prison suicide of D'Angelo Barksdale in the early 2000s.

I genuinely cannot say with a straight face that there is no chance the President would not RT an article from Stormfront.

What, the Saudis aren't on the list?

According to multiple news sources (here's CNN), although Epstein was placed on suicide watch after the incident on July 23, he was removed from it at the end of the month by psychologists with the Bureau of Prisons. He claimed that the initial injuries that caused him to be placed on suicide watch were the result of someone assaulting him for being a child predator, and were not in fact self-inflicted. He had daily psychological evaluations and at the end of the month the psychologists decided to take him off of suicide watch.

So, TL:DR, he was reportedly NOT on suicide watch at the time he died - not that that will stop any of the talking heads. (I also note that "Jeffrey Epstein" isn't listed anywhere in that chart...)

(Edit: I also find it amusing that in the tweet above the hashtag #JefferyEpstein is used, since that isn't how his first name is spelled.)

Influenced by this twitter thread, I'm inclined to believe that the most likely cause was that Epstein wanted to send a massive f*ck you to the world in general and his victims in particular.
