Drawing / Sketching / Digital Painting

Procreate is one of the best I believe. I’ve not tried it in a while (not since a really early gen2 iPad version) but I remember it being pretty good.

I think it's iOS only though

Correct. Some Alternatives.

ah dang., didn't realise that. Can't really help then, sadly!

*sigh* oh for the days when i can actually afford a nice new tablet for drawing on

Thanks! No wonder I hadn't seen Procreate pop up in searches since it's iOS!

I think I'm going to try Autodesk Sketchbook. I keep seeing it come up in multiple places with good reviews/comments, and also, an Autodesk sketchbook type program came with my Wacom tablet for my PC, and if the Android version is anything like it, then we'll probably get along very well.

Of course, if anyone has any actual experience using any of the programs on the alternative list linked above, I would be all ears to hear about pros and cons!

I've been picking up some of my favorite artists and inking them. I started pen and paper and shifted to digital a couple of months back. I use Procreate for it. Here's a couple of time lapse videos

Anyone have any interest in me starting a weekly drawing prompt thread? I've been slacking on drawing, and I was thinking that committing to doing at least one drawing a week could be useful. If there's interest, I'll generate a prompt list, and post on Monday. We can share our creations and provide a bit of encouragement.

Any update on this? I'm eager to give it a shot

Also Harpo has started one for creative writing and clearly we can't let that stand without some sort of alternative response

* I can take charge and stick something together if you want (I have an idea that might be quite fun). But I don't want to steal your thunder otherwise!

About 30 minutes ago, just out of the blue, signed up for a beginning water color class being offered by my town's recreation department. Haven't really used watercolors before other than to just mess around with stuff, so thought it might be helpful for something.

I ALSO found an Android app that was made for artists to be able to sketch 3D models and the entire app was on GIRAFFES! Yay!!!

Spill the beans on the name of that app please

Ask and ye shall receive. I'll post prompts on Tuesdays.

It's called....*drum roll*....Giraffe Mannequin!

Grabbed the Microns for this one. Helped make some very long conference calls tolerable.

Bryan Hitch Hawkman pencils.

y'know. I hadn't thought of that as a good way of practising inking. Hmm...

Bulk paper will eventually destroy the nibs on the pens. Just a word of caution. My brush pens are now trash. Holding off on using the new set.

It is fun, though...

It’s Jim Lee Batman time. Took me about 2 hours.

Anyone else up for the Inktober again this year?

IMAGE(https://i.imgur.com/NVbUFST.jpg)

Yup. Going to give it a shot once again.

Good keywords this year!

I've done it for the past four years in a row, so I'll probably do it again this year. I've only used the prompt list once, though (2017), and I'm not sure I'm going to use it this year, but we'll see...

Late to the pre-party, but I was just chatting with a friend about this and I'm in. I'm going to try the official prompt list this year. There will be a couple of stretches in there for me but I'll roll with them.

I'm curious to see how this goes for me. Last year I felt like I improved quite a bit in the first couple of weeks then plateaued.

I'm definitely excited about this, though, and hope to make it all the way through again.

I might give Inktober a shot for the first time. Time to find my pocketbrush! And my nibs...

I love my pocketbrush, but I suck at it, so I don't use it nearly as much as I should. Pens, on the other hand, are soooo nice, hahaha.

absolutely giving inktober another go this year. The prompts are pretty good this time around I think.

Is inkwash OK for Inktober? That's something I would like to use in my future comic book projects, and I need to practice...

even though it's called inktober, i think the general feel is so long as you are following "a" prompt list and trying to keep up with one image a day then the actual materials used don't matter too much. (I've seen some people who just go digital, for example).

Pyxistyx is right --you can use whatever you want, even digital. I usually use a lame (actually awesome) Pentel ball-point pen, and occasionally break out my pocketbrush or regular brushes. The important thing is to have fun. Even the prompt list is optional .

I may try this for the first time this year. I need to illustrate a storybook, and this might be a good way to get myself going again.

So the concept of inktober is just to basically draw something every day using those prompts?

Well, been meaning to push myself to get into sketching more so sure, I'm in!

From Jake Parker's website:

"Inktober rules:
1) Make a drawing in ink (you can do a pencil under-drawing if you want).

2) Post it*

3) Hashtag it with #inktober and #inktober2019

4) Repeat

Note: you can do it daily, or go the half-marathon route and post every other day, or just do the 5K and post once a week. What ever you decide, just be consistent with it. Inktober is about growing and improving and forming positive habits, so the more you’re consistent the better.

That's it! Now go make something beautiful.

*Post it on any social media account you want or just post it on your refrigerator. The point is to share your art with someone. :)"

So yeah --just draw and have fun!

Last year I got super busy and struggled to keep up with a full page doodle in my lil book every day. Ended up just filling a 3X3cm tiny panel for each prompt as and when I could do them. Made it to day 22, this time I'll stick to that method I think and try for the whole month.
