Borderlands 3 Loot-All

I watched a video (my name is byf on youtube) to see some of the footage. It seems like a nice iterative sequel that takes into account the improvements from some recent games.

The one thing he said that really caught my interest was that the gun play felt a lot better with a controller than it ever has before. That would be a huge improvement as it has always felt a bit clunky relative to other shooters.

I don't want to turn this into a bigger discussion and am still going to be getting the game on day 1 but David Eddings (voice of Claptrap on the first two Borderlands games and former VP of Marketing) is claiming Gearbox said they didn't have enough money to pay him and insinuates, for a second time, that 12m of the money 2K was funneled from the project into a different bank account.

In Response to a fan asking on twitter if he's voice Claptrap:

David Eddings wrote:

No. For the first time, I insisted on getting paid for my performance and all of a sudden they couldn't afford me. Now I'm not telling them how to run their business but maybe next time they should put the $12M payment from 2K in the Gearbox bank account instead. Just sayin'...

So I have been watching new videos discussing specifics of BL3.
I am excited about level scaling in BL3.
I am not excited that Pitchford is on record saying that new vault hunter DLC is not likely to happen. Complainers cite Gaige and Krieg as examples of awesome new vault hunters which is valid. But the kicker is that both Jack's Doppelganger and the Baroness were also awesome and in fact MUCH better than the Presquel's stock characters. (to that point, Gaige was also better than many of BL2's stock vault hunters)

It may not matter much since the guns are so crazy in this game that they will outshine most of the vault hunter's skills. I don't think any skill is going to be more fun than walking turret Tediodores...

The more I hear and learn, the more I'm not excited by Pitchford. Most recently the fracas with the original Claptrap actor bummed me out pretty bad.

In all the interviews and presentation I have ever seen Pitchford do he hasn't struck me as a good guy so I am pretty much primed to believe almost anything bad former employees have to say about him.

Borderlands 3 is $10 off on the Epic Store until June 13th if anyone wants to jump in now. I'll almost assuredly be getting it during this sale.

There's a polygon article called Everything we know about the endgame, but the short version is "not much". But apparently there will be raids, and there seems to be a kind of skill tree that only opens up after the story is cleared.

It’s been pulled from sale...

I've been in BL2's endgame for a while, and I assume they'll have to and will, but it bears emphasizing: they damn well better balance it better. Granted this probably has something to do with the game having 4 or 5 different endgames over its life, but I'm taking a Gunzerker through Ultimate right now, and consensus holds you should ignore an entire tree of his skills because they don't scale at all. Seems like it shouldn't work like that.

While I'm ranting, a better way to share items between my characters please. Ideally a giant vault I can dump them all in.

Just one huge stash would be great. There's no reason to have two separate stashes.

Borderlands 3 - "So Happy Together" Trailer

It's got swagger that's for sure. I've got a pretty good feeling Borderlands 3 will turn out well.

I mean, it's almost as good as the classic-rock-song-that-is-somehow-about-multiplayer trailer that they did for Fallout 76. Surely Borderlands 3 will be almost as good as that was.

...

What?

Guess I should tag in just in case. BL2 seems like forever ago but it was fun.

I agree with Spikeout. So much of Borderlands is the story (albeit dumb and juvenile) and tone. It's hard to recapture the original Cage the Elephant intro (which was unskippable if you let it get started - what!?), but this is a solid attempt to emulate that airy combination of fun and grit.

Not sure which character I want to play first. I was a siren fan in the first two games so Amara is in the running but Moze looks fun as well. Wise they would release some game-play of all four of them maybe taking on the same mission and not all cut up. Just like 15 minutes of solid game-play for each character.

Except they haven't shown hardly anything with Fl4k the beastmaster 4th class gameplay...

He's the one I'm most interested in too. Since I'll definitely be playing through this at least twice (once solo and once co-op) I'm interested in seeing how the character skills synergize. Moze's Iron Bear is clearly meant to be extremely useful for co-op and my co-op partner is almost guaranteed to play Amara (played Sirens in the first two and Athena in the Pre-Sequel). I may convince him to give Zane a try since my friend NEVER uses grenades and Zane can swap out grenades for a second active ability.

That certainly is a perk for Zane for sure. I favor Fl4k despite loving all of the sirens in the prior games. (I consider the baroness to essentially be the siren in TPS) But Zane is going to be my second should Fl4k prove subpar. Although BL3 seems like there will be such emphasis on guns, it may not matter which class I play. And the thought that walking guns, multi element guns and alt fire guns may be just the tip of the iceberg is downright scary when I start calculating the amount of time I will spend playing this game!

Amara is totes my jam .

I may grab this despite my limited funds. It’ll hopefully be a good time waster while recovering from surgery in September!

Most likely I'll start with Moze. Prepurchased it on Xbox One as I'm not a fan of Epic. I'll eventually get it on PC as well as I have all other BL games on Steam and Xbox One. If anyone wants to add me on Xbox One in advance for coop goodness, RainsmercyGWJ is my gamertag for Xbox.

FL4K trailer today

Seems like there's a little code in the last 2:13-2:14 of the trailer, but I can't quite make it out...

shift code: 5JwBB-9zx9J-b636c-bbbbt-zcwxf

Note - if you try to redeem via borderlands.com, it will complain unless you've linked a PSN id to the account. If you redeem via shift.gearboxsoftware.com, it will allow you to select your platform.

Sweet, thanks!

Also, a reddit thread with VIP codes for Borderlands 3. If you get 8 vip weapons through the site, there is a special edition gun you will receive with B3.

Official Borderlands 3 character builder is out.

Some observations by going through each of them below. Not really spoilers but detailing out how each class now has different skill equip slots and ways to upgrade. You'll still be progressing down one tree at a time, however.

Spoiler:

Everyone:
-3 skill trees each with their own Action Skills
-Augments are skills that heavily change your Action Skill; each class has a set amount that can be equipped at any one time
-Zane, Moze, and FL4K have different action skills further down their tree that can be equipped instead of their current action skill
-augments, additional action skills, pets, and action skill elements do not progress your character down the tree

Moze:
-1 active Action Skill; summon her Iron Bear mech
-Iron Bear can equip 2 of 3 classic Action Skill weapons
-Iron Bear can equip one augment for each Action Skill weapon
-possible to equip 1 Action Skill weapon in both slots and have 2 augments equipped
-each skill tree has 6 augments (3 per Action Skill weapon)
-can unlock 3 additional Action Skill weapons

Zane:
-equip 2 Action Skills at the expense of grenades
-2 augment slots per Action Skill
-each skill tree has 5 augments

Amara:
-equip 1 Actione Skill
-equip 1 augment
-equip 1 Action Skill Element (converts action skill damage to equipped element)
-3 total Action Skill Elements (Shock, Fire, & Corrosive)
-5 augments in skill trees
-can unlock 8 additional Action Skills

FL4K
-equip 1 Pet
-equip 1 Action Skill
-equip 2 augments
-2 additional Pets per skill tree
-4 augments per skill tree
-Pet is active at all times

All of Amara's trees look great, I'm not even sure which one I'll try first. Can't wait for this to drop.

Which class will work best with corrosive shotguns? That's all I really need to know.

You know, I might actually pick this one up. I missed the boat on the first two.

I took the day off from work. I am going to be so pissed if Amazon delivers my copy late.

FL4K's pets not being his action skill is pretty amazing. One of his action skills teleports his pet to the targeted location, makes it do radiation damage, and makes it grow larger.

Amara looks to be the up close and personal character this time around. She has a Brawler tree which has melee buffs and a skill that makes guns do additional damage the closer she is to the target. Another tree has a skill that gives elemental weapons larger mags.

Moze looks interesting as well. Looks like Iron Bear works off of a fuel gauge with certain actions using fuel and some skills to help reduce the amount of fuel used and even regain some fuel on kills and stuff like that. So kind of similar to some of the Deathtrap skills in BL2 when playing with Gauge.

I kind of what to play all three of these characters. My biggest issue with The Pre-Sequel was that I didn't really like any of the characters so this is looking more promising.
