Assassin's Creed Odyssey RPG-all

As someone who 100%ed the main game, I nod knowingly.

Wow ... that’s a feat. I bow my head to your completionism!

Whew ... so after playing the heck out of this, I've hit some endings.

Spoiler:

In the final confrontation with Deimos, I was trying to go the peaceful route and persuade him to leave the Cult and come back into the family, as I had promised my mother (I also killed the dude in the cave, not the theatre, which the dude at the game shop had cryptically warned me about, strangely, when I bought the game).

It seems to be going well, I ignore the "fight now" option, talk a bit, Deimos hugs Mum ... and then kills her, and we fight. He has some crazy powers, so I died and the game reloaded at the start of the conversation with Deimos.

This time, I'm damned if I'm going to let Deimos kill Mum, so I take the "fight now" option, win the fight vs Deimos and kick him off the cliff. Then I turn to Mum ... who now spurns me for breaking my promise to save Deimos and says she never wants to see me again, telling me to leave Sparta for good. Then I have a "triumphal" dinner at home with step-Dad and Stentor, who still hates me and drinks all the wine before I can.

This seemed a fittingly "tragic", Greek-literature, bittersweet ending for Kassandra. After leaning heavily toward family and taking the side of Sparta, it made me realise she was her own person, her real family was Barnabas and the friends she met along the way, and she could totally fight for Athens if she wanted. It also steeled my resolve to finish off the rest of the Cult.

Only later do I find on the internet that there's actually an option to save the whole family, Deimos included. While it's tempting to reload a save and try for that, I still like my imperfect ending -- it made emotional sense (some people, sadly, can't be saved).

Anyone else have ending feels? Or are they waaaaay back in the thread and I've missed it due to being a filthy skimmer?

Also, apropos of nothing: I did not use the XP boost feature, but nor did I feel that I had to. Once you can upgrade the spear I focused on killing cultists to do that, and the barriers to hunting them were not so much levels, but that I had to progress the main quest to find them

Plus XP boosting isn't so handy if you want to keep certain gear upgraded (especially once you have a legendary set) because you still have to have the resources to do that.

Anyhoo, I remember it was a big issue when the game came out, I don't know if it's been patched since , but I certainly didn't feel like the game was artificially padding things out. It's just felt like a massive game that was trying to find entry points for you to engage with it. After Argos, I pretty much ignored random side quests (unless it was to discover a cultist), focussed on what I wanted to do (hunt cultists/legendary beasts/mythical monsters) and had no problem levelling or continuing the story/main quests.

I saved him but no idea how! I'm sure there was a battle but suspect some choices kicked in and it saved him, he certainly was on the ship with mother towards the end.

I believe you also had to follow a certain dialogue path...

Spoiler:

... with Deimos while you're imprisoned. Something about him being a slave to the Cult and Kleon in particular. This sows some doubt in his mind, without which he'll attack anyway at the end.

Found the necessary steps to get the good ending:

Spoiler:

Episode 2: Don’t kill your father Nikolaos
Episode 6: Promise Myrrine to save Deimos from the Cultists
Episode 7: Convince Nikolaos to intervene with Stentor when you meet them again in Episode 7 (only available if you didn’t kill Nikolaos in Ep. 2)
Episode 7: Do not kill Stentor your brother
Episode 8: In the Prison when Deimos talks to you, convince Deimos that the Cult is manipulative. When Kleon appears, Deimos needs to say “I am not your puppet”, this means you have done it correctly. If Deimos does not say this you must reload the previous save and try the conversation again.
Episode 9: Don’t battle with Deimos

Seems like you indeed missed the Episode 8 step?

Crazy. I got the good ending without even trying. I am the best.

I think I must have missed something around 8, as I definitely did all the rest.

Spoiler:

I didn’t reload and try the last conversation again either.. I thought the only options were to let mum get killed, or not. The fight was hard, but I won so hey, job done

It’s weird, cos usually I’m a stickler for trying to get the “best” ending, but I rolled with it this time and felt it was still an impactful,
meaningful end.

In a way, it seems more fitting than the 'good' ending. Both Kassandra and Deimos killed thousands in their quest for a family reunion, and whatever honor they possess seems more akin to a mafia family than well... actual justice. Their family breaking apart over it seems right at least.

I think 'good' ending is really subjective. In the context of how I played, Kassandra killed everyone along the way, and it felt like a great ending to the story I played.

I agree, dejanzie & Infyrnos.

It felt better suited to the brutal, war-torn, Ancient Greek setting and Kassandra's murderous (albeit charming) road to that moment

The good ending sucks anyway. At least the final scene does. The end of the Pythagoras Quest is far more interesting.

This game has an ending?

True dat

This is the ending I got.

So I am about done with the first part of the Atlantis DLC and wow, this has raised the already high bar for Ubisoft dlc. What a stunning addition!

Man, this game really has it's hooks in me. There is just SO MUCH to do. I just hit level 16 and I've already worked my way up to 5th tier on mercenaries (thank goodness for fire arrows and Spartan kick off high roofs lol). I'm hunting cultist like a madman too. I've upgraded my spear to level 3 and I've only got 1 more cultist to find in the Kosmos line somewhere in Attica to get my first legendary set. I just made my way to Athen's as well and getting ready to start that quest line. I've already enjoyed the game so much and I've only been fully through 2 areas!

So far I think I'm heading down a good track too. I did not kill The Wolf even though I really wanted to! I met Deimos and showed him compassion even though he appears to be a psychotic sociopath.

Is there any utility/savings in delaying upgrades? IE, if I a weapon is going from level 5 to level 7, does that cost the same as going from 5 to 6 and 6 to 7 combined, or does it cost less?

In regards to upgrades, are there certain Legendaries that I should be upgrading (like Nikolaus sword) or should I just worry about leveling and then get higher level Legendaries? The whole upgrade and engraving is still a little confusing to me.

I just upgrade the weapons I enjoy using when they are 5 or so levels below be and no longer feel like they are being effective. Not sure about the upgrade costs vs level question above. There are plenty of legendary weapons throughout the game so if you don't mind switching to new ones as you get that that would work too. For me I have an Ax and a Sword I like to use so I keep them pretty upgraded and added engraving to both to make them stronger for my play style.

Engrave everything you wear - it is cheap and very effective.

The equipment does seem to matter (I've basically made a flaming axe beserker Kassandra, and she definitely benefits from gear that's specced to make burning more painful and longer-lasting.) I'm approximately level 22, and I've noticed the game goes from "cake walk" to "challenging" pending on how much of my gear is up to date.

I'd also purchase wood and leather at every blacksmith who sells them. Upgrades eat through that stuff.

Pieces of Legendary Armor that are part of a set will automatically level up to the set’s “top level” when you get the last piece of the set, so hold off upgrading those until then.

For weapons, it’s a matter of preference whether to level up one item or keep swapping out for higher level items. Obviously it depends on whether the item’s bonuses suit you. For me, I found a spear I really liked, and kept it upgraded for 10 or so levels, but in that time the game was throwing some awesome daggers, clubs and other weapons my way.

Also don’t forget your secondary weapon — even if you don’t use it, you still get the stat bonuses from it, so you can pick one with good bonuses but not bother to upgrade it.

Engraving costs gold and materials the first time you engrave, but after that it only costs a little gold to change the engraving — so you can switch out engravings, which is good when you unlock the next tier of a particular engraving.

In the long run, I think it costs more to upgrade every level than to do it in jumps.

Regardless of whatever's actually most efficient under the hood, I tend to keep weapons way more up to date than armor pieces. Being able to make a dent in a life bar (or one shot grunts with a predator arrow) feels more important than being able to take a hit, especially given there's that healing ability. Having said that, I'm rocking all legendaries. I think I was just trading pieces up to that point.

Ok, I bought this near launch but have finally decided to try it out. Now one of my missions is disrupted by a mercenary one level higher than me. Fought him about 10 times with each fight taking 3 or more minutes because my weapons are made out of paper. Sometimes when I think hes staggered, hes not, and gets a couple hits on me each one taking 1/6 of my health. This isn't the Asscreed I remember and am not having much fun.

I finding the combat painfully grindy and not very intuitive. Especially so with the mercs. My primrary reason for playing these games was to be a badass assassin. Right now I'm feeling like I'm fighting an endboss in Dragon Age while underleveled. Is there a reason for me to keep going?

Edit: Beat it by cheesing him with Sparta kicks. Don't feel good about it. Going to push through a little more but it might just not be for me.

The game kind of wants you to use things like Sparta kicks to cheese things early on. Try to get the health talent early on to restore health if you haven't already. There's definitely a hump in the early going to get over until you get some good gear and levels under your belt. You can absolutely spec yourself to be a badass assassin, but the mercenaries in particular are there to be a constant challenge through a large portion of the game. Eventually they won't trouble you much either, but until then you'll need to avoid them if you can.

Usually I've found they will not just hang out forever and defend a mission objective. I've had success waiting them out (depending on how patient you are) or leaving and coming back.

Discovery Tour is now available! Free update for Odyssey owners, also available as a $20 standalone for PC.

All right, I'll give it another good push and try to spec up health and see how it goes. I have been focusing on the arrow stuff because I was annoyed I couldn't 1 headshot kill an unsuspecting guard with an arrow.

Sad they didn't add cheevs to the update:(
