Rebel Galaxy Outlaw - Privateering-All

We'll, we haven't been playing the game to completion for the last few months mate, so, y'know...

And I have, in order to help make it the best game it can be. And it's amazing.

But if it works with a game pad, then I no longer have "make room for my joystick" as an incentive to get my desk cleaned up...

I played Privateer with a keyboard and joystick, as I recall... Is that still reasonable for this game?

Sure is.

Now to find a nice Win 10 USB version of the Atari classic controller...

I assume HOTAS is overkill for this game?

I actually played Rebel Galaxy with the mouse & keyboard. Will that still work or do I need to go to the HOTAS?

Enough about this gamepad stuff already! What we really want to know is if it has a release date yet!

Filthy skimmer!

Release date y'all!

My attempt to make Veloxi's head explode backfired. Ah, well, can't win them all.

Well it has been about a page since we last mentioned Privateer 2, so we could try that again.

This is the game that's going to make me download the Epic store, isn't it?

I've been enjoying all the free sh*t for months.

DON'T DO IT... CHINA WILL HAVE ALL YOUR INFORMATIONS!

My concerns about Tencent's stake in Epic have basically nothing to do with my personal information and more to do with the pernicious impact of China's censorship policies on artistic freedom, which have already started to be seen in both the video gaming and tabletop gaming spaces.

Regardless, I probably will purchase this game because Privateer was one of those titles where I stared longingly at the box as a kid and never got to play and I'm impressed with what DDG has done as such a small team.

One thing I am a bit concerned about based on the streams I have watched is the variety of the combat gameplay. Is everything basically a loop/turn fight, or can you build a ship with an emphasis on straight-line speed for a more hit-and-run style? Or can I outfit a bigger ship as a flying fortress? (Don't believe I've seen an answer on whether there are auto-turrets?)

Yes to those questions.

The first ship I show in my stream, the Beluga, has three turrets.

I'm reasonably convinced that China already haz all my information cheezeburgers.

And has done for quite some time.

Yeah, my info was in far worse hands with the Federal Office of Personnel Management than it ever was with some Chinese shell company.

Speaking of which, will I be able to cover my ship in Taiwanese flags, Hong Kong flags, and maybe a few Winnie the Pooh decals? Can I mod them in if I play on PC?

From what I've seen, you can load in any image file and plaster your ship with whatever you want. I think one of their gameplay videos has a demonstration. I'll throw in a link if I can find it.

You can add your own music I believe as well, if the 24 hours of music across 7 genre stations included in the game aren't to your liking.

That's the kind of thing keeping me leaning towards getting this on PC. Otherwise I would honestly consider waiting for the Switch version because this looks like a couch game to me and if it's on Epic I can't use my Steam Link.

Same. I really want this on Switch. But the ease of changes and of course the earlier release on PC might suck me in. We'll see how long I hold out next week, or if there's even a Switch release date.

Based on the FAQ they updated the day of the Release Date Announcement, I think it's going to be a while before we have a PS4/Switch release date.

Q: All right, how about consoles?

A: PS4 and Switch versions are on the way; we just need time to complete ‘em, polish ‘em, rate ‘em, and certify ‘em.

Rebel Galaxy Outlaw FAQ

Does the game have salvage from combat encounters? Does what salvage you get vary depending on how you engage with combat? Can you use that salvage on ship modification?
Or is this not that kind of game?

Also, does this play well with controller?

Better take cover, Veloxi is gonna explode.

What's Privateer?

A little-known prequel to the beloved Privateer 2.

An open world version of Wing Commander, maybe around Wing Commander 4 or 5? Personally, I just couldn't get into it. There was no direction that I could perceive and I got stuck flying essentially a garbage scow and couldn't find enough missions to raise cash and fly something that could blow enemies out of the sky.
