Hidden Gems of Netflix's Watch Instantly

I started the first episode of Taco Chronicles. Each episode looks at a different kind of taco. The narrator provides a voice or personality for the taco itself, it reminds me of the narrator from Jane the Virgin. I'm excited to see more, and also this series makes me hungry.

It's great! I think I have one episode left.

Started watching Blown Away. Typical reality tv art contest show with drama mixed in. This deals with blown glass though, so some of the pieces are amazing, and some of the artists have some serious talent.

The Haunting of Hill House is pretty fantastic. It has some very nice directorial flourishes.
Apparently there's a second season incoming, but this first season felt very complete. Maybe it will have different characters.

It's an anthology show. However, they seem to be using some of the same actors, kind of like American Horror Story.

But also revolving around Hill House? Just asking because of the series' title.

Season 2 will be The Haunting Of Bly Manor, and is supposed to be a retelling of Henry James “The Turn of The Screw”

Season 3 of She-Ra and the Princesses of Power is now out.

I finished the final season of Orange is the New Black, and it's one of the strongest seasons of the show. Very emotional, very powerful.

I hadn't watched since season 3. The GF filled me in on the details that have happened since, and I watched the last few episodes with her. A lot of crying involved from me.

Also, I binged all of She-Ra season 3. It was incredible and I can't wait for the next season.

Also watched Dark season 2. Still really liking it, but now there's paradoxes inside paradoxes. By the rate this is going, I believe we the viewers will be trapped in one of those paradoxes in season 3.

Watched the first episode of Dark (season 1), as I'd just discovered it. It improved immensely, 10 minutes in, when we switched to German with English subtitles instead of the English dub. I'm already having a bit of difficulty telling characters apart (not to mention just what all their relationships are), which does not bode well...

Designated Survivor

Finally remembered that Season 3's on Netflix and it's interesting to watch this show now that it's no longer tethered to the constraints of an American broadcast network, and I'm not talking about the swearing.

How so? I thought S3 was terrible, actually!

Also thanks to those who recommended Money Heist, it's been a fun ride so far (half way through S1).

Mini-Sorb binged all of those without me over the weekend.

I am now disowning her.

Having seen it through I will say Another Life does pick up a little, especially the final episode. Good to see Selma Blair doing something half decent again too.

Much work needed though.

I binge watched this over the weekend while most of the fam was away. I was expecting a low budget mishmash and there is some of that (what is up with the title sequence?) , but it exceeded my expectations and surprised me in a lot of ways including how little filler there is. The drama moves along much quicker than expected. The tech and culture seem somewhat well thought out. Though there has been plenty that annoys me, there's enough substance and decent storytelling to keep bringing me back.

I tried watching it this weekend. The acting and pacing is horrendous.

This Season 1 family tree might help out.

The series website has a lot of detailed information about characters, relationships, chronology, etc.

I don't blame her. Best season so far.

6 episodes is a very short season, but they were rather good weren’t they? Not that I binged watched them yesterday while
nobody else was in the house or anything!

The show is just so aggressively positive and I really enjoy that.

So, I thought that Enter the Anime could be interesting. Maybe something I could direct my family to when they ask why I watch so many cartoons. Turns out, it's just one big commercial for the anime on Netflix. With the F-bomb.

I finally finished watching Neon Genesis Evangelion and The End of Evangelion. Boy, that was, uh, something.

I thought, given what I'd heard, I was prepared for the last two episodes and End of Eva to be kind of a mess/baffling/disappointing, but I still found myself feeling baffled and disappointed. I could imagine someone making a really great, cohesive story with these concepts and characters if they were planned and paced differently, which makes it tempting to consider the Rebuild movies, but eh, I'm also not sold on this creator being the one to successfully turn these ideas into a better story.

I'm glad I gave this thing the time, as it was rarely boring, and often interesting, but I did run out of patience near the end.

How about some context!

Parfum. A murder mystery based on Perfume (as in the book itself is the catalyst for a lot of what happens in the series).

I really wanted to like this, but whenever the series showed a reason to empathise with a character, it wouldn't take long to find a reason to remind me that that person was horrible. Besides that, the mystery could have unfolded in a better way (e.g., characters kept in the periphery have a significant impact in such mystery, but by being in the periphery I didn't felt much surprise or emotion). The police also seemed generally kind of dumb.

We liked Overlord - my best description is: Resident Evil in WW2...

I believe that I caught Overlord on Amazon Prime Video.

If that's the German one then I really enjoyed it. It was such an unusual crime that I was invested in understanding the motive, the characters themselves didn't matter so much. Agree re the police, and especially the key relationship that was a bit too coincidental and forced, quite often these writers feel that such a relationship adds to the narrative but it rarely does to me.

Watched episode one of "The Wu Assassins" it was good enough that I will continue watching this weekend. As one reviewer put it, it's not great, but it is what Iron Fist should have been.

Hey, GLOW season 3 is here!

The ladies are in Las Vegas.
