Fire Emblem Catch All

When I did the side battle it automatically assigned the visiting student I had invited as adjutant to my character. I guess that was good? Or should I leave them alone to act and get more support that way? Not sure which is best.

I never had the visiting student available in the fight since Cyril already fills me to maximum unit capacity. However, if you want to reassign them to someone else like I did, then you just press "Y" on the unit you'd like to assign them to.

Another move that, in hindsight, will probably do me no favors in adding units to my army.

I don't recall any potential spots in all the stat screens. For as detailed as "Roster" is, there are small bits of info I wish it kept. It may be in there. However, in combat, it's definitely one of the bars that shows after an action. So when experience goes up, there will also be a bar for their class experience and how close they are to leveling it or maxing it out, and then another bar for their garrison should one be equipped.

I know you can see if a class is maxed out when on the screen for choosing Certs and when reclassing, but I haven't done a thorough study of the U.I. I just know the most easily available information is in Goals, where you can see everyone's current skill levels.

It's funny, I was practically raised on Nintendo products, but neither Breath of the Wild, nor Super Mario Odyssey, nor even Joker's appearance in Smash Bros. gave me the itch to buy a Switch. Fire Emblem is totally doing it, though. Wouldn't have thought this game would tempt me so badly.

Thanks! I'll check the places you mentioned.

Overall I just wanted to make sure I wasn't making a mistake by reclassing so quickly.

So far I'm really loving this game.

When you are in the reclass menu, or maybe it's only in the certification menu. But definitely there it shows the bar of your current class with a number of how many xp left to master. So that many turns or actions.

For some it's a lot, more than you will use to get from level 5-10 or 10-20. So you may want to skip beginner or intermediate classes for some units.

I bailed on beginner classes as soon as I could jump into intermediate ones, on the assumption that they're "better"

The beginner ones have some decent benefits to mastery:

Spoiler:

Each of them gives a +2 to a stat passive, which isn't necessarily great, but they also each give a different Combat Art that can be re-position nearby allies by swapping places with them, moving them away from you, pulling them back with you, or moving them from one side of you to the other.

If you're close on any on them, might be worth going back briefly to pick them up.

A Koei Tecmo game made you want to buy a Nintendo console, nice!

Nothing wrong with that, I bought a PS3 almost entirely for Valkyria Chronicles. Just funny to me.

Oh yeah Swap and Draw Back can be life savers. I know the pulse makes things easier but still repositioning can save you from having to use that in the first place.

I kept forgetting to check on my support conversations, so I just spent the last hour getting caught up. Its interesting but quite overwhelming to experience all of it!

So I decided to restart and go Blue this time. I am in part 2, around chapter 15, and I am so glad I spent the time to collect almost every magic caster in available: So many different ways to get heals. I am happier with the this run through than I was on my Red play through. Only took me like 6 hours to get back to where I was before resetting. Now I unlocked the secret shop and the dancer class today. I'm glad this came out when I started having some sleep problems, I would have ended up staring at the wall for 6 hours anyway, but now I can just play this while my insomnia keeps me awake. I think this is my favorite Fire Emblem of the decade.

In my playthrough I chose female Byleth (I always use female characters the first time on FE when possible).

I get into my house and then realize my romance options are terrible. Now this is normally not a big focus for me. I generally dislike the mechanic and don’t focus on it. I just pick the person I’m closest to that I like okay when it gets to that point.

This time, though, seeing how bad my options were, I set about winning Dorothea into my house and I did it.

It took having her guest in my battles, side-by-side with Byleth as well as refocusing the skills she cares about, but I did it.

I basically focused my entire playthrough on getting a better romantic partner... lol

So yeah, I really hate that mechanic apparently.

Finished Chapter 5 today.

Well, things just got interesting.

Hell yeah. The battle itself was cool with new enemy.

But that transition between chapters, oh boy...

Spoiler:

Sylvain was in my party. And I had him strike the killing blow on his brother.

Then Rhea told me to give back the Lance. I said no. She was pissed.

Sylvain comes bursting in right then and has permission from his father to keep the weapon. So Rhea allowed it.

But I don't think I'm going to be good friends with the church. Guess my Black Eagles route is leaning a certain way already.

Enjoying the hell out of this game. Just need more time to play.

Yyyup.

Spoiler:

I'm actually really liking Sylvain, which is a shock because typically skirt chaser types annoy or bore me. His interactions with characters like Dedue and even Annette have kind of saved him for me, though, and especially some of that chapter. Unfortunately he was always in the back and therefore failed to have much interaction with his brother.

But the conversation with Rhea? Oh yeah. I mean, I'm kind of getting flashbacks to Final Fantasy Tactics with this. Church is actually evil, holy relics cause people to become monstrous devils, and you gotta fight against it all. Even then, when Rhea wanted to give the lance back to the nobles, my thought was "Uuuhhh, no, let's keep this thing under lock and key so this doesn't happen again". But clearly any disagreement with Rhea is trouble!

Still a bit of a shame, because as I said, when I watched the opening cut-scene my first thought was "Lady Seiros for Smash".

Honestly, I'm absolutely delighted with this game in so many ways. I remember finding just about every house undesirable to choose for different reasons, but Blue Lions in particular because Dmitri seemed so... white bread. In the end I'm actually really liking my choice as I think every character wears their tropes on their sleeves, but is given some additional depth over time.

Except maybe Edelgard. She just seems like she's cold as ice.

She's willing to sacrifice our love.

Played a few more practice battles and I confirmed a few things.

1 Dorothea is super eager to prove herself and if I don't keep a close eye on her she will get herself killed.

2 Bernadett is going to be a monster once I fully train her.

3. I am not sure who I should add to the black eagle school since we feel pretty balanced.

I am only on chapter 3 because we are going to keep doing practice battles until everyone gets it right.

What class are people planning for their main characters?

Sword dude.

I haven't gotten past Intermediate classes yet.

Well Ch 6 is weird. Sacrificing the logistics of the story for the game play.

Spoiler:

I figured out who may have kidnapped this child. But I need to do some side battles and train up my students first. So I'm going to skip rescuing her and wait 3 more weeks.

WTF.

Maybe just have the battle happen but then let me play out a few weeks without something looming? Ugh.

I feel like I’m doing something wrong. I just finished Ch 4 and I haven’t been able to recruit anyone into my house. I think I need to do more down-time activities, but most Sundays I have battled. I would really like to recruit at least one other person into the party to fill me up to 10, but I’m just not sure how to get my stats high enough to get someone to jump houses.

I don't recall what you gotta do to get Cyril, but I saw him as #1 on recruitments. He's not from another house but I think he's probably the easiest to get on your team.

To recruit more, I'm pretty sure you'll need to do activities that raise certain skill levels. So do plenty of Faculty Training and Seminars in skills you don't normally focus on in battle.

You can also focus on support. Getting people not in your house to rank b will bypass the stat requirements and they can just join straight away. That way to don't have to rank up your flying stats to recruit a Pegasus Knight when you don't want to be one yourself.

I'm currently buying lots of gifts from the new merchants and trying to boost support with them. Got my 2nd person to join already and have 4 people at rank C already.

Chapter 4 would be really early to recruit anyone.

Man, part two of the Blue Lion story is just dark. I’m on chapter 17, and jeez guys, I haven’t seen a fire emblem this dark in a long time. I love it.

Yeah that was a bit of an odd choice. Feels like there could have been better ways to handle it.

Had to drop my Switch in the dock to charge its battery. Won't be able to play it for a bit again.

For those doing Dedue's paralogue, bring some cavalry. It's tight otherwise.

The funny thing is

Spoiler:

if you forget all about it and don't Explore again that month, your students will come and find you on the last day and tell you, "something's going on at ____." Then they drag you to the confrontation.

So you might as well use your last free day for a battle or seminar, anway? Except then I feel kind of dumb for forgetting to do anything about it after solving the mystery weeks ago.

P.S. I'm at Gen Con. I deliberately left my Switch at home. I definitely think it was the right decision, but wow the withdrawal shakes are kicking in now. Looking forward to curling up with my cat and this game tomorrow.

Thanks for the tip. Might as well get some extra points in.

And dude, you should have taken it to Gen Con just to get all the amiibo scans and music from people. I know there's no other way I would get all the tracks. Only have 3 FE amiibo and not really planning to buy more.

I have recruited Sword Waifu! Which makes me wonder if I am now so over-leveled I can recruit all the professors. I'll have to try once I am back at home with my Switch. It seems most of the professors simply had a level requirement. Trying to figure out which other students I want to recruit as well. Raphael and Petra are up there, as are Dorothea and Hilda. Ferdinand, maybe? I'm less partial to most of the male students, admittedly, with most of the male characters I like being in Blue Lions or faculty.

Which reminds:

Spoiler:

Don't want those already far enough to confirm, but Jeritza being the Death Knight is a red herring, isn't it? Feels like a Red Herring.

Who is sword waifu?

Who isn't?

So just beat the game on Blue Lions. All of my units were at or above level 50 but I only had 5 units survive the battle. I’m on casual mode but I was still surprised. Haven’t encountered max level as my two highest were 55 or 56, but that level is one of the hardest in the series given level disparity. I was about 5 levels above the suggested level for the fight but still. Wow. Only 21 chapters, has to be among the shortest games in the series.
