Wargamer's Corner

And ... bought.

I gave up. So many people saying so many good things about the game.

EDIT: Would it make sense to start a separate thread for this game here? It feels like something we'll be talking about for a while.

went ahead and made a thread for it: https://www.gamerswithjobs.com/node/...

I grabbed Steel Division 2 over the weekend. I played 1 2v2 skirmish with AI against Medium AI. We lost, but I think it's because my AI partner dropped his flank. I need to watch the replay.

I'm going to do a few 1v1 skirmishes before diving into the Army General mode.

I like the addition to command that they made to allow more of a command and control network to be set up.

If anyone wants to set up some comp stomps, let me know! I'm not ready to play competitively yet.

I'll be a long time getting up to speed, but I did not bounce off this game like I did the previous one. Quite a relief.

I started a Steel Division 2 strategic campaign last night. It's a lot of fun! With the ability to pause the real-time battles and issue orders, SD2 is feeling like a proper war game!

Pretty good sale on some games of interest over at GoG. $24 for War in the East, same for War in the West. Deals on various Panzers Corps and Fields of Glory II.

Anybody know anything about this game: Theater Commander: The Coming Wars, Modern War Game?

It totally flew under my radar. But, for $9 I might just grab it.

That looks kind of rough... It's got what looks like a Windows 95 interface.

So, RPS is reporting that Creative Assembly has trademarked "Total War: Troy" in the UK. Discuss.

I believe that it's the next Total War "Saga" game...like Britannia (which I didn't play).

I'm not crazy about sieges, but I love Bronze Age warfare, and I'm a huge Trojan War nut

I'm cautiously interested. It's Gamelabs, so I don't have any worries about it being good. Of their upcoming games it's the one I'm least attracted to, but this looks pretty good for a very early version.

That looks fantastic! I'm in when it hits.

I've been looking for a computer version of AH's Wooden Ships & Iron Men - this looks like it!

Now that's a game I can "squee" over.

This.

Definitely keeping an eye on this one. What I want is "Jack Aubrey Simulator" but this is as close as I'm going to get to that any time soon.

Hey, this is the wargames corner. Yaoi is over there, somewhere. \vaguely concerned waving\

Ditto.

Hey, you fight your war and I'll fight mine. But now I'm thinking that something like Valkyria Chronicles on a ship would rock.

I think this game is a step forward, if it delivers. At least the devs have a track record.

Probably a long shot and not sure if applicable here, but would anyone be interested in playing some Advanced Squad Leader SK 1? I used to play years ago, along with some of the easier "full ASL" scenarios and was wanting to give it another go again. I have Vassal and Tabletop simulator, so either would work for me.

Tank Warfare Bundle on Fanatical is def worth checking out if you don't have Tank Warfare: Tunisia 1943. It's $5.

I have it, but I might just grab it for the DLC.

I'm afraid my ASL days are 20 years in my past and it would be too much to start over again. But, I wish you luck! ASL is a great game. Unfortunately, the rules require it to be a full-time, and worthwhile, obsession.

Have you tried the Combat Mission series? Very worthwhile. Also, Matrix has a game called Tigers on the Hunt that plays like a direct ASL port.

Here's a vid on it.

Yep! I have both, although I never did get around to purchasing Combat Mission with the "new" engine. Tigers on the Hunt is cool, but I was missing playing with other people. ASL SK 1 just arrived in the mail, so maybe I can tempt some friends locally with shiny new counters?

Where did you order SK 1 from? I've been looking for it for a while now. I'll give it a whirl with you on TTS if I can manage to get a copy.

I bought it on coolstuffinc.com last week, but they're already sold out again.

I added it to my wishlist. Hopefully I'll get a notification if they get more.

Against my will I'm starting to get really excited about this game.

I've been chatting with the lead guy on Facebook in one of the wargaming groups, and he's got his act together, as far as I can see. I think it'll come out a bit short, but he'll improve it over time. Interesting stuff. (He's got a lot of game dev experience, but doing a small independent shop thing, I think he may have to trade off a few ancillary features to release and get some money in the coffers.)

Apparently Fantasy General II is out now. Looks neat, but I don't know anything about its predecessor.
