Apex Legends - A Titanfall Battle Royale

Got a sweet sweet win last night. I was playing with a guy from TexAgs and a random.

I'm also continuing to love the challenge system on the Battlepass.

What weapons are y'all liking these days? It seems like they're working towards having everything be fairly viable. I've been working on a Battlepass challenge involving lots of shotgun knocks, so I've been running either the EVA or Peacemaker. I actually have a better track record with the EVA, but it doesn't instantly destroy someone like the Peacemaker can.

I also continue to major in the Hemlock. It's probably been my best weapon the whole time, although I periodically take an R-301 instead. Had a great couple minutes fighting another squad using a 301 last night.

I wrecked someone the other day using an Alternator with Disruptor rounds, so that one has been a go to, but I still defer to an r99 or 301 and prefer the EVA to the Peacekeeper since it's semi-automatic. Spitfire is still dangerous too.

Daily Challenges kinda make me crazy. I just played for an hour wherein I got two wins (this is unusual for me), but didn't accomplish any dailies, and I'm more frustrated than overjoyed.

I have taken a stance that for 99% of games that have "daily" or "weekly" things to do, I ignore them completely. I seem to have way more fun that way.

Eh, the objectives help keep my interest. Otherwise it's just more grindy pointless killing.

I'll go for the Wingman if I can get my hands on one, and either the r99 or r301. I tend to do well if I can get a Spitfire or Devotion, since lots of people pass on that. I have yet to find a LStar. Still no wins for me, lots of close games. I've ended up in the top 5 this season more than usual. The instant my teammates decide to go with Marketplace or that huge warehouse place in the middle of the map, I know I'm going to be easy cannon fodder.

Interesting. I'm with kazar on this; daily and weekly challenges always feel too arbitrary and rarely offer rewards that I value. I understand why developers offer them. But I'm happy to just do the grind-y pointless killing thing until I'm bored... then I'll go and do some grind-y pointless killing in another game.

I think Apex Legends held my interest for a month, then I was happy to move on. I suspect my moving on coincides with me hitting my personal skill ceiling on a game. Once I can't get any better - and other people continue to improve and wreck me - I have no reason to continue.

I'm not in any way suggesting folks shouldn't enjoy grindy pointless combat, and I play this far more than I probably should, mainly because it lets me spend time with my baby sister. I'm not sure I'd keep playing otherwise, and the dailies/weeklies help keep it a bit fresher for me.

I believe both of us were talking anecdotally given fun is subjective. I was more coming from the angle that if a game has merit on it's own, then daily challenges are not needed. I come from the same perspective as detroit20 where if a game becomes grindy, then it is time to move on. In games like Apex I just find daily challenges as gimmicks to artificially create content.

From a factual perspective there is something I dislike about dailies. In a game where you depend on your squad mates like most BRs, having one player say "I need to get an RE-45 and kill 10 guys with it for my dailies" pretty much means that night you are going to die a lot while they try to achieve it.

On the flip side, I think there is a way to add dailies that could be interesting and be a form of real game content. Instead of making the daily something global, it would be neat if in the round itself you were given a mission with some reward behind it. As an example, you drop Skulltown and win it and there is a team in Market, a mission could be "clear the market" that gives you a unique skin or even some in game ability. The team in market could get a counter mission "hold the market". In CoD Blackout they had tokens you could find that unlocked character models if you could complete interesting (though sometimes near impossible) objectives.

Can't disagree that there might be a better way to do dailies, nor would I say this isn't a lazy way to create artificial interest. What I am saying, I suppose, is kind of unfortunate, but likely true for many people. I'm going to play it anyway, for one reason or another, and this gives me a focus while I do it.

Kazar, your approach sounds a lot more reasoned and fruitful. Go work for EA.

Yep. And this is why I also dislike ribbons and medals in games like Battlefield. You're about to capture an objective... but then one of your squad starts running around attempting to stab enemies so that they can get their 250 melee kills medal. Ugh!

So I enjoy watching shroud and company play apex. Watched a few earlier with shroud, skadoodle and sYnceDez play. Then went to work on my dailies and ended up in a match with sYnceDez on my team. He wanted to go extremely spicy and we did though it didn't go great. It was very surreal.

Last night I ended up in a squad with a 13 year-old who didn't have a mic and a kid of similar or slightly greater age who did. They got 11 and 9 kills, respectively, as they carried me to victory.

(I had one kill with about 450 damage.)

Yeah these kids... crazy lol

I'm making time every day or so for Apex, even if it's only for ten minutes. This is huge for me. I haven't stuck with a multiplayer game like this since early Team Fortress 2. I've even bought into the Season 2 battle pass.

Point for posting - The new Solo mode is good for hitting those battle pass challenges without throwing the game for your teammates by detouring the group to Swamps so you can open 5 supply bins.

I also got to the final 3 in Solo by playing like a stealthy ninja (aka total coward). Worth it for the rush.

I've only played solo twice so far. The first time I got one kill. The second time I got five kills and second place. I took out third and fourth and then was brutally executed by a wise camper who executed a textbook third party.

I hope they make solo a permanent option. I would definitely hop back in.

I played quite a bit of solo yesterday. I had a few top 5 finishes, and one 2nd place. No wins.

I'd like to see the solo mode be permanent as well. However, I feel a bit like it suffers from having most of the mechanics tuned for team play. For example, since there are no prone or lean mechanics, it is hard to be sneaky in the solo mode, which can be a lot of fun in games like PUBG.

You can be sneaky without being able to go prone and one of the cool thing about Apex over PUBG is that it forces confrontation and make it that the ones who fight it out come out on top over the ones who try to sneak.

I believe there is a place for solo. I prefer the synergy in character abilities, so I will rarely be in solo.

They need to fix teaming in solo too.

So it was intentional. I ran up to a "battle" yesterday, and as soon as I made myself known by throwing grenades, the two players disengaged and they both turned on me. It felt like a trap. They were just shooting by each other to draw in people that are looking to clean up, then teaming up on them once they engage.

I opened my first (of two) Iron Crown loot crates and got the havok skin

Hopefully, my final event crate is a player skin.

FYI - there is harsh press about EA's loot crate event.

Edited
All the complaining caused EA to change the event loot.

Man, that's infuriating to make it to the final 2 with 5 kills and get aim botted.

Armed and Dangerous has to be my favorite game mode. I wish it could stay forever.

That's funny, I didn't like it. I don't usually use snipers nor shotguns.

Got my first ever "solo win" last night in that I had one down quitter and my other squadmate died with six squads left and no rez stations available.

Yeah, not a fan of Armed and Dangerous either. I was praying to find gray shields!

I don't either, but this has helped me get better at using both. Plus, playing with a couple of friends has helped too.

Armed and Dangerous has been awesome for seasonal goals. The games and kills happen so much quicker. We've also been getting a ton more wins when we group up in Discord.

One big problem in the past few days is that Care packages are bugged and have not been dropping. Meanwhile, people are still getting daily goals that need care packages.
