France 2019 Catch-All: June 7 - July 7

Well... I have to congratulate America: won fair and square over my fellow-coutrywomen.

Technical superb, tactical better and were most of our team looked gashed around the 70th minute, USA team kept going.

Abby Dahlkemper... just wow!

I have been looking at this spectacularly incoherent celebration tweet for like 10 minutes and cackling non-stop. Every time I look at it I find something new and hilarious.

Winning comment: "Incredible performance: they played like they didn't want to go to the White House."

Pre-sales for four-star jerseys are up, but you can't customize them at present. I've been wanting to get Lavelle on a red jersey, but they weren't offering 3-star jerseys in men's shirts before. Looks like it will have to be a four-star version, whenever they open up customization.

Dangit. Just do a search for, like, "Bleacher report world cup picture" on Twitter or something, you'll find it.

EDIT: Or check Deadspin.

I would read a 2,000-word oral history on how this came to be.

Fun times! Congrats to the US team for the win! Netherlands put up a great fight but it was all uphill for them. At an average age of 25.5 years, they could be a force to be reckoned with in the next world cup.

It's also exciting to see how close some of these matches were. Today felt one-dimensional, but France - US could have gone either way, and England - US was tight as well. Europe seems to be closing the gap.

Sure is awesome to watch the cyclical nature of the USWNT where we have a perfect mix of younger players, players in their prime, and senior players. Keep rotating like that and you just might keep winning even as the competition strengthens.

It's a stark contrast to the USMNT, where we're kind of always desperately scraping together the best team we can and coming up short in certain positions.

On a barely-related note, we always celebrate championships with ice cream, and the Baskin Robbins / Stranger Things crossover is super fun. Sadly, mine is out of Eleven's Heaven. They still have Upside-Down Prailines and just added the USS Butterscotch. Also appropriate right this minute is America's Birthday Cake.

Now let's just channel some of that energy into the Dash winning a bit more!

Super-duper unrelated, but Dash player Kealia Ohai is engaged to JJ Watt. Can't wait for their superhuman children to dominate athletics in the future, preferably for US and Houston teams.

Edit: I've had this issue before, where I have correctly used the image link here, but it doesn't show up. Not sure why. Alas.

Edit 2: Thanks, Hrdina!

I shouldn't be surprised that Nike had the new USWNT shirts with the fourth star up for sale already.

Wanted anybody but the USA and China to win, but I can't say the USWNT didn't deserve it. They played brilliantly all tournament.

I was very displeased with how quickly they ran out of Men's versions of the white jersey and weren't selling men the red in USWNT style (players and stars). They've corrected that now, which is great, but they don't seem to be putting names or numbers on the four-star stuff yet.

Thanks, Hrdina. That's the second time I couldn't post an image, but someone else could. Bizarre!

Lavelle and Pugh play for my local team, the Washington Spirit. Looking forward to seeing them play in person soon.

Bummer there are no California teams. The other league had the San Jose Rays (devil rays, manta rays or something like that). I saw them play many years ago. They had Brandi Chastain and if I am not mistaken they had Marta as well. I know they had 2 really good Brazilian stars.
edit: looks like it was Sissi and Katia, not Marta on the San Jose Cyberrays...

Somehow I don't think my local team will be touting the "66% of Our Players in the Final Took Head Injuries" stat.
