Super longshot but based on the colours, I'm guessing...Wandersong

Bingo Blackice, and it was one of my first PC (i.e., non-console) experiences too

Correct! It is the super-lovely Wandersong. You're up next A_Unicycle

Wow! I guess it really does have a distinctive colour palette

Try this

Torchlight

Yep, you're up!

Ah, so not the second one! I was worried.

...Watchdogs? It's got that hacker vibe and looks like it could be pretty modern.

Ah, so not the second one! I was worried.

They look pretty similar, I wouldn't be surprised if it was the same engine -- or a slightly updated version of it. Here's a screenshot of 2 for comparison (spoilering not to confuse people)

Spoiler:

I think Garion's is Watch Dogs 2?

(If correct, would m'lud please note for the record that I posted that one like 40 pages ago, oh the huge manatee!)

Sorry I dropped the thread for a moment, but it is Watch Dogs 2.

Just remembered this one out of nowhere.

Hint: probably the greatest game ever made.

Abobo's Big Adventure

And I agree, it very well might be the greatest game ever made.

Is that where Scott pilgrim got the band name?

Yup, and it really is. For anyone who hasn't played it: here ya go (requires flash). It's a very frog-fractions-esque romp through genres and nostalgia.

"Bob-omb" is the name of the little walking timebombs in various Mario games.

I didn't even know that this bonkers little game existed until I recently found a Super Retro-Cade in the window of the local used game store.

Ah, it's Meme's The Game. Looooooots of silly references.

Love that game!
For the life of me I can't recall what its name is

I cheated and watched a video. I think this is clearly the greatest game ever designed and have no idea why it isn't talked about on a daily basis.

Two more screens.

When your plane is shot down you don't immediately lose a life. You run around the ground Contra-style and can climb into many other "vehicles", including tanks, jeeps, rocket launcher trucks, horses, elephants and many others.

The plane also has a hook that can fling mine-like bombs as well as pick up many things and throw them. That includes any vehicle a second player may be in.

The ragtime soundtrack is really rocking.

Developer and publisher Data East. Platform is arcade-only until the Super Retro-Cade picked it up.

Feel free to look up the answer and post it.

Obviously it's Barnstorming from the Atari 2600.

Spoiler:

Kidding! No idea what that is.

Regardles of what it is, I need to get my hands on it. It sounds like great fun!

The answer is Boogie Wings. It is insanity in the best way possible. My main complaint is that the screen is often too busy to be able to tell what's going on. That's at least somewhat offset by its generous lives system (it takes multiple hits to truly die).

Free play!

The thing that got me in one of the screen shots is there was a horse on the ground with an arrow saying ride. What happens when you do that? It has to be some sort of power up right?

How about this one. I loved it growing up.

See video above starting about 02:30. Player 2 is in ...uh.... "little man mode" and then jumps on the horse to ride it (even though it says "in" over the horse).
Around 10:15, you also see them riding an elephant and a giraffe. Earlier (06:05), one player is running around under a severed T-Rex head. At one point someone is controlling a giant tin man that shoots rockets.

Well if nobody else is going to call it, that is obviously Crystalis. I bought it around 1992, but never got far until I played it all the way through at the tail end of 2010.

Wow. That must have been both cool, and rough playing it in 2010.

While I initially enjoyed it a lot, I ended up finishing it mostly out of determination to see the credits. After a while it became a bit too obscure and repetetive for my tastes.

Next up:

Part of a long running series.

Well, let's go with The Room

It looks like that Seven Layers game. The one about painting and horror.
