Dauntless Catch-All

So not only is Dauntless crossplay, but it’s cross-save as well. I’ve been playing on pc the last few days but on a whim installed on Xbox and seamlessly picked up with my pc character. This is the goddam future.

Yep. I'll happily bounce between my laptop and my Xbox depending on if someone wants the TV or not. It makes games that don't have cross-play and cross-progression feel positively archaic.

I've enjoyed this enough that it's made me want to dig deeper into Monster Hunter World, but that game not having cross-play (and the PC version being tied to Steam) means that I'll never be able to shepherd my friends all onto the same platform to play with them.

I was shocked by how seamless it was, I didn’t need to log in or verify accounts or import anything- I just installed the game, hit ‘play’ and there was my character. I’m assuming the console remembered my account ID from some other Epic game I played and Dauntless took care of everything else behind the scenes. Other multiplayer games should feel ashamed of themselves.

Hello all! Myself, Staygold, Trashidawa, and Agu-Sakku all have guild invite abilities. Hit up any of these fine folk for GWJ guild invites.

Regarding patrols, my only complaint is that I think the dire patrol is a bit too broad.

You can get enemies you're below the recommended gear level for, which is frustrating.

You can also get matched against any possible enemy element. Without loadouts, it can be a mad scramble to swap out gear and cells to match whatever behemoth you've pulled before time runs out.

That said, I don't see any reason to drop a hunt. You keep any resources and parts you gather during a failed hunt, and you keep any experience accumulated through things like damage dealt. You miss the payday at the end, but it's usually worth sticking around just in case a bad hunt pulls through in the end.

Cross-platform merge has been less than seamless for me and I'm at a loss as to what happened. I thought I had accidentally used an old, forgotten Epic account to merge my Dauntless Beta account on PS4 and that I used my newer Epic account to login and create a new Dauntless account on PC. However, while working with customer service to get them the info they need to get my Dauntless Beta and Epic account properly linked and available on both platforms, I have logged into the PlayDauntless website and it looks as though I have a Dauntless account linked to the newer Epic account for both PS4 and PC and another Dauntless account that has no characters on any system.

My character(s) and their progress are definitely not shared across the two platforms that appear to be linked to the newer Epic account. On PC, it shows one Dauntless username while on PS4 it shows another. Unless I have a third Epic account floating out there that I unwittingly linked to somehow, I have no idea what is going on. I have tried password resets using a couple other email addresses and nothing comes back, so I don't even know how that would be possible.

Why not just delete and keep one of the accounts and focus on that one. I believe you can have them unlink from PS4

Twitch has free loot/cosmetics at the moment for linked Epic accounts BTW. I now run around and battle beasts in a Poncho feeling all McCree-ish.

Unable to play this morning. I can matchmake into the city, but I have no mastery rank, no quests, no hunts listed on the map.

I don't see anything mentioned on Twitter, but it seems like some of their services must be having issues. Hopefully it's not just me. There was some jankiness last night as well.

Update: This was fixed when I logged in tonight for a bit.

Oof, the hour I played this game made me want to play other hunting games. I'd been putting off buying MH World because it's such a time sink, but I have it now and it's such a better experience for me. Combat just felt like...nothing in this game.

I'm glad you folks are enjoying it, for those who are, but surprised to see people latching onto this. Needs more time in the oven for me.

To be honest, I'm surprised that I have been enjoying it as much as I have. I agree that it's strongly overshadowed by Monster Hunter in most respects, but I think it has a solid foundation. Dauntless is a very, very streamlined version of the core Monster Hunter loop. If you don't enjoy that loop, there's not much for you. If you do, here's a simpler version of it that's easier to start and easier to learn.

Also, I don't agree that combat feels bad. What weapons did you try? The hammer and the axe both feel pretty good with a little bit of practice. The only weapon I dislike is the sword. It's just too simple. I get bored mid-hunt with it.

I've tried a couple of the alternative hunting games (God Eater and Freedom Wars), but Dauntless is the only one that has managed to keep my attention for more than a couple of hours.

Only gave the sword a try. So, there's that.

$20 for MHW just seemed the better use of my time.

I mean, it is. MHW is an amazing game, but it's incredibly complex compared to Dauntless. I think there is a subset of players that will find MHW to be overbearing, while Dauntless will be approachable enough for them to dip their toe in the pool of the monster hunting genre. I strongly suspect that Dauntless will serve as a jumping off point for a lot of new players to get into Monster Hunter.

I'm a little surprised I've played as much Dauntless as I have recently too. I think it speaks to how much I like the formula and the execution here isn't bad, but it's limited compared to MH.

I love the Dauntless combat. It never feels cheap and it’s rewarding to pull off perfect dodges and combos. They hit all the right buttons for me combat wise. The rest is super streamlined to get you into monster hunting.

Interrupting (booping is what a lot of people who are more into the game call it) with the sword keeps things pretty interesting. I only tried the sword out because of the extra effects that came with it on an ice one. It makes Embermane pretty easy, if you get the interrupt timing down. I found that pretty fun. I don't use sword too often, though. Hammer, War Pike, and Chain Blades have been more my focus. I've given the Axe and Repeaters a pass for now, though.

Also, the sound effects for the hammer and repeaters, IIRC was pretty satisfying.

I was gonna pass on this as a weak Monster Hunter clone but the good word of mouth made me give it a spin. I'm now maybe ten hours and have been enjoying it quite a bit. Been mostly using Hammer and Axe, briefly tried the War Pike but it's moveset is a bit limited.

Gotta learn to interrupt, holy hell is Embermane annoying with it charging every which way. Makes a good contester for Zinogres claim for the king of hyperactive mutts.

I like the hunts but everything else is still an open question. Gear progression seems quite straightforward, though I haven't much dabbled in the.. what ever the Middleman is peddling - some kind of permanent buffs? They take an age to cook for sure.

Crossplatform is awesome, been playing mostly with my son with him on PS4 and me on PC. Works like a champ except for voice, anyone else had issues with this? Neither can hear the other, via Discord it just works.

Embermane was incredibly annoying and kicked my ass pretty hard at the beginning, but I can interrupt his charge attack with about a 70% success rate now and I'm just getting better. My general take-away from the game is that armor is there for you to learn (and to save your bacon when you screw up), but once you know the fights, you can almost walk into them with a good weapon and no clothes and walk out feeling like a champ.

I played this in a way designed to make me fall off of the game this week, mostly my fault, so I am trying to give the game another chance. In my hunt pass quests for the week, 3 of my challenges were: kill 10 behemoths with a terra weapon; kill 10 behemoths with a sword or axe; kill 10 behemoths with repeaters or axe. So, naturally, I crafted and upgraded a terra axe and used that for 10 fights in a row. Problem: I don't really like using the axe! So it's made my last handful of hours with the game feel grindy and not too fun. Next time something like this happens, I should probably just ignore the temptation to min-max and play what's fun.

I am a little concerned, having watched some streams of higher level Dauntless players, that higher level monsters and higher level play in general looks like it's pretty much the same as my experience now, just with higher numbers. If the game doesn't really change beyond me making my numbers up and the game making the monsters' numbers go up, I dunno... I'd like it if there were a bit more to do.

For grindy stuff like the challenges using your non-favorite weapons, the first quest where they have you use the axe and polearm to do staggers and wounds, etc., I find it quite quick and easy just to run Pursuits against Lesser Gnasher. At 300 weapon level, I easily finish in under 2-3 minutes solo, but will run with PUGs just for the additional DPS and quicker completion. The only time this doesn't work is if they specify it has to be against non-Lesser behemoths.

Looks like Arekkz is making high quality weapon tutorials for Dauntless like he has for Monster Hunter.

More to come after E3.

Oh Dough has some really good YouTube video guides as well.

Just a warning, check the date on the ones in his channel. He's done a few sets of tutorials over the last few years, and the older ones might not have everything in the current game.

Yes. That sword one is brand new, but it's the only one so far. I'll update this thread with the others as they come.

Fyi guild invites might time out after a time, not sure. Keep asking and I'll keep spamming invites until it takes! Some folks aren't getting them, some are, this is the only thing I can think of. Send friend requests to Trashidawa, agu_sakku, Staygold, and Amoebic or Amoebism. I'm Amoebic on PS4. Once you see one of these friendos online, they'll get you in the guild

I've connected so many accounts to my epic account, you may be able to find me as both Amoebic or Amoebism. Alternatively, [email protected] also works.

I´d love an invite as well! Razgondk is the name - Cheers!

This is really fun! I bounced off badly of Monster Hunter, but this is really fun.

edit: My epic name is razgon, it seems!

Took almost 2 weeks, but I got all my Epic/Dauntless/PS4 linking issues squared away. Turns out Dauntless created a third Epic account for me when I linked Dauntless to my PS4. All said and done, I went from 3 Epic Accounts, 2 Dauntless Accounts, and my PSN down to one of each. Fortunately, my game library was only on one of the Epic accounts, so I didn't really have to do anything there except some unlinking of other game services and then request the two extraneous accounts to be deleted.

Long story short, my Epic username is Vypre_ for both PS4 and PC now (PSN is still Vypre) and I finally have my progress carrying across both systems, so I can play where I want - when I want. My 'Vypre-' account can be deleted from the guild.

I'd given this a pass thinking I'd played MHW, liked it well enough but didn't stick with it long term, so why try the Fortnite version? This weekend my son convinced me to play with him and I've been having a blast. The fact that it IS easier to get into than MHW makes it a great game for when you want to listen to a podcast or just not think that much. No real tracking, just run around, find the monster, fight it. The end. I've mainly been using the repeaters but I've also had a lot of fun with the hammer after I learned about priming hits, active reload, and the big combos that unload all your shots. Works really well for when I want something a little fiddlier to use during fights. My son had complained that all of the monsters seemed to just do 3 moves over and over again but last night I got to the Rifstalker and I don't think he'll complain too much about that fight being too straight forward.

I enjoy it as well for having a beer and chilling on Discord with folks. I am not good at, but the constant progression and variety of objectives/quests is nice.

Saw my first hacker yesterday... Or at least I'm assuming there isn't any weapon in the game that can kill a dire monster in three hits.
