Rocket League Catch All

A while ago, I gave away all my crates. I'm sure I've collected more since. If you still need what you're looking for after these folks help, let me know and I'll see what I have.

I'm not really too fussed about crates, so if anyone wants mine then let me know, I've built up loads!

I only have two Champion Crate 3s but they're yours if you're wanting to try them with decryptors.

Yeah I have 11 and I can't imagine opening them myself. Take em.

I got one, all yours.

I was so close to getting this zero second equalizer. At the end there it is just barely out.

In solo duel I run into extremely toxic people and I run into the nicest people. Had a guy last night compliment me on my mechanics but say my challenges were crap then he purposely tied the game to go to overtime and then gave me some tips.

Been practicing my upside down aerials a lot and they're starting to get a bit more comfortable now! On the Kevpert training I'm on 5/18, so that's 5 where I manage to get it in first time. Doesn't sound like much, but still good progress! I'm reset every shot until I manage to get it in (without it being a fluke).

A question about going upside down though, does it matter too much if my air roll to turn around comes from a left-sided spin or a right-sided spin? Like is there a case for making sure you can spin either way to get upside down? I've noticed I have a habit of pushing right on my analog to turn around, I did a concious left spin and it felt a bit odd.

I think we all get habits like that. I wouldn't worry about it too much at this point but it definitely helps to eventually get used to both directions.

There are cases where you don't have a lot of time to rotate and it would take less time to go one direction or the other depending on your cars orientation.

Often I'm trying to change direction in the air at the same time as rotating so I do a Kux twist and the direction I rotate is very important to make sure I fly in the correct direction while I'm boosting. Those kinds of maneuvers aren't possible if you only ever rotate in one direction.

First 3 Switch GCs playing against 2 PC GCs and Sledge (a C1)

Dorkman sent me a couple crates last night and I scored the Breakout-S out of the second one! Also got the heatwave out of the first so made out pretty good with those ones.

Thanks Dorkman!

Norman Jr is into Rocket League (high plat) and I took him and his friend to RLCS this weekend. Even compared to other esports events and conventions I've been to, I was really impressed with the positive energy, friendliness, and lack of toxicity through the event. My son met a bunch of pros, took pictures, got signatures. I'd fooled around with the game early after release, but was really impressed with the obviously high skill ceiling - coming in cold, I wasn't prepared for the absolute nonsense that went on.

I think I'll start playing around with this on switch *tries a basic launch into the air, fails miserably*

I find Switch frustrating with the joycons. Pro controller much better.

But PC is really where it's at.

My goal for this ranking series was to get Diamond 2 in doubles and be consistent in there. I just kept playing and managed to make it to Diamond 3. The minute I got there though I thought I'd take a step back and look at my 2v2 ranking. I placed plat 2, but soon found myself continually losing games, and dropped from plat 2 division 3 to plat 1 division 2! So it sort of said to me that I'm fairly good at reading a 3v3 team play, but I think in 2s my overall play and ground work let me down.

I've been practicing a lot on my upside down hits and also really focusing on my position and awareness, as well as the overall speed I've been playing it. Today, I've managed to get Diamond 2 in 2v2 for an all-time high ranking! All that time in training has really paid off.

I'm unsure where to go now though. I dipped into 1v1, and I'm only gold 2 there. I think my mechanics let me down a lot, I'm think my strength is positioning and reading the game quite well, but I'm only OK at some things, and fairly terrible at others (wall hits I've just never took the time to learn!) I might try for plat 1 as a goal in 1v1 for this ranking series, but I'm more wanting to really work on a lot of my air control. I've definitely noticed that although I don't really use upside down hits that much (barely at all) in ranked play, I'm hitting the ball I a lot better and making decent contact a lot more consistently. I've also really focused on trying to get my powerslide working properly, as that was a particular weakness of my game that once I'd just made a small adjustment to stop pressing it down as much, I noticed a big improvement in my game.

Wait, less power slide?

I really need to practice more. I just like to play so I may never hit champ

Everything I was watching told me I was holding powerslide down for too long. Most recommended only holding it for 40-50% of the actual slide you want to make, and then you can recover much quicker on the turn. I was tending to hold it down for almost all the slide, which meant I often lost momentum.

What phase is everyone in right now?

After seeing both my 3v3 and 2v2 ranks fall over the last couple weeks and just feeling like I am getting worse, I think it's safe to say I am now in acceptance and have been debating if I want to keep playing.

I find when this happens it’s best to just walk away from ranked for a bit and start looking at why you might be losing these games.

Spend some time on mechanics you think you could improve on and just play a bit of non ranked. It’s loosened me up plenty of times for when I was ready to get back to it. Also, one important bit of advice I got was: It’s not about improving your rank, it’s about improving your play. In other words - don’t get too hung up on the ranks, if you can take positives from games of your play and improving, then that’s way better, as improving your play should naturally improve your rank in the future!

Yeah I definitely need a break. We had an AFK teammate start a match the other night. So we got scored on in 6-7 seconds. The remaining teammate called for ff. Other guy returned though. We ended up down 2-0, then 2-1, then 3-1 with still 2:50 or so left.

FF jerk tries to ff. Then when the vote fails he proceeds to other end to play goalie 4v2. He saves two shots of mine and one of my teammates. Could have been tied or at least within 1. He actually scores the next goal on us, not the other 3. Then I manage to score 2v4 to close the gap.

So frustrating, if he wasn't such a troll we could have competed, maybe won. Reported and muted.

Then... 3 games later he's on the other team. Scores an early goal and we end up losing by 2. Losing to that asshole broke me though. Haven't played since and don't really want to.

I hate people and need a long break.

I regularly ignore ranked and just focus on my mechanics and playing unranked or alternative modes for fun and learning. When I come back to ranked I often rank up easily.

If you are frustrated at your regular ranked modes I highly suggest picking an alternative mode you don’t play a lot of and focusing on that for a while. Learn it’s specifics and get good at the mechanics that mode requires. Then bring that improvement back to your usual ranked modes.

Over the last few seasons I rotated through hockey, hoops, dropshot and rumble. During the course of learning to get my rank up in those modes I got a lot better at core RL. When I went back to standard this season I just couldn’t lose and I went up a bunch of rank.

I’m going to take another break from ranked for a bit and try this new spike rush mode. Hopefully it’s good.

Clusks how is your connection to US East servers? Playable? You could play with us some night. I’m West coast so EU servers are pretty laggy for me but I can try that too.

I'd love to play with more GWJ people! When I've played on US East I get about 90-110 ping. It's not ideal, but not unplayable! I'll get the odd moment where it looks like someone is missing a ball only to hit it. I'll definitely be on most of this weekend, so will be up for some games.

This might be interesting, signups are through tomorrow:

Would anybody be interested in the Division 5 East Circuit?

Count me in if we can figure out our ranks.

Looks like they have strict ranking groups that discourage mixed rank teams.

I miss TomMorrow’s Twitch tournaments. He had a system that worked really well for all skill levels and mixed rank teams.

I’ve been playing some of this new spikes mode and have mixed feelings. Some games are great and some are bad. Bad ones seem to be when I end up in a lobby where they haven’t figured out the mechanics yet and people are playing it like they use spikes in rumble. DONT do that! These spikes are like a grip you can control and once you have your timing down you can throw the ball with a lot of control. Throw it into passes and shots. Do team plays. Flip off the wall or roof into flicks.

This mode actually encourages team play pretty well. I don’t think it makes sense as a long term mode but it is WAY better than that ghost mode was so it’s a nice change of pace. I’d play it in private lobbies once in a while. With these new modes and all the crazy stuff Leth has been making I’m curious to see what comes next. It’s nice to have some new modes in the game.

Agreed, especially way better than ghost mode.

We often play around and after 7pm PST which I think is 3am BST. Some GWJers on the east coast likely play earlier. I am often around much later.

I played Spike mode just enough to get this weeks Challenge and I find players in two distinct groups.

1) Those who know how to get up the ceiling and flip down and toward the goal either to self carry into the net or pass to a teammate,

2) Losing teams

I am firmly in the second camp, and I only got my challenge completed because I got joined into with a grouped teammates who were clearly in the first group.

Hah! Amusing post, Carl. I'm sure it was frustrating at the time, but at least you got good forum material out of it, yeah?

Played some Snowday today and ran into a team of 3 Blizzard Wizards who are currently in the top 15. Ran into CoCo and Zaya a couple more times afterwards. It's gotta be hard for a team like that to find good opponents with so few people playing Snowday.
