Warhammer 40,000: Inquisitor – Martyr (Catch All)

Yup, add me to the chorus that like how the game feels now.

So what’s the attraction of the Psyker? My tactical character has a Lasgun and Flamer and wreaks havoc. My Psyker (okay, level 3) fires an anemic little beam at things.

What will come for him? What goodness will the Omnissiah grant him in the fullness of time?

I'm going to try one later, but before 2.0 I found them to be incredibly meh. I've got my Crusader up to level 55,finished the campaign, and have bumped up to Extreme. I'm still shredding things with my grav gun and heaven forbid a chaos marine or anything else gets close because my power sword thirsts for the heretic. More maintenance today, hopefully they fix the DLC since the patch broke some of it. Me and my Commisar servo skull are ready to purge so hopefully maintenance won't be long.

I just fired up a Psyker and came away feeling that grenades were the best damage dealing part of the character. That's not a great sign.

Figured I might go crit build with the guy, but maybe it's best to go back to my sniper.

I played around with a psyker for a few levels and after I unlocked some more skills they started living up to the glass cannon title. He could be made pretty resilient but it took a lot of cooldown juggling to make sure I was keeping certain buffs up and his channelable flame laser kind of skill let me just sweep the screen killing enemies or melt bosses. Maybe once you get some more defensive passives they'd be less annoying or if you regularly play with others they could be amazing.

Agreed and this class more than any other screams focus on Health and Defense first with your passive points. There is some really cool gear that they can get, but I havent played a psyker in enough detail to really talk higher levels. That might be my next project to take one through the campaign and see how it plays out.

But, with my Sniper, I have to *take* like 500,000 damage before I can start putting points in Defense (I think it was). What's the deal with that?

You have to be a really bad sniper before you can be a good sniper. Just like in basic, the first thing they tell snipers is to run out into the clearing and start screaming "shoot me!" and once you've absorbed enough lead into your system you become tougher. At least that's how I imagine Warhammer sniper school.

That would seem to be the proper training pattern for the Astra Militarum.

I forgot that certain passives don't open up for certain classes at the start.

Their progression system and UI, especially, could use a couple more passes. I felt the same way in re Van Helsing. They're functional, but take more fiddling around than is necessary. The layout in this game is prettier but more confusing.

It's a bit more bit picky, I know, but stuff like the perks being on a different screen from your passives is odd. We're those added inater in development or something? Can't recall.

Still, I enjoy actually playing the game more than ever. I wouldn't be against this game going full GaaS and further refine over the next year+.

Does all this update talk apply to the console versions of the game? Thinking about this for XBO but $60 for a game that's been out for awhile seems extreme in today's videogame economy.

It will, but its as yet unannounced when the 2.0 update will hit the consoles.

Thanks!

I've successfully been disenabled!

It's a decent game, but I wouldnt pay 60 for it now. I am really enjoying Path 2.0 but 60 is extreme for the console version.

Maybe if it includes the upcoming expansion...

Yeah that's a fair point.

I'm really loving the game now. I'm going through all the DLC now. Honestly, to me, this is one of the better stories in the ARPG genre. They really captured the feel of the WH 40K universe. My Crusader is just mulching through content on Extreme. The Grav gun is by far the must versatile weapon in my opinion. I've been riding that train since I could use them. Id love to find a relic version, but at this point I craft a new one every 10 levels or so. I'm level 60 and had a nice relic bolt pistol and shield drop in the same mission and that's one of my preferred secondary weapon layouts so I'm loving life.

I love the game, but there are two things I hate: Defense missions and timed missions. I the main campaign I'm stuck on one, while in this Drukari campaign I'm stuck on the other. Maddening.

Picked this up during the steam sale, haven’t had a chance to actually play it yet. I’m a sucker for just about anything 40K, so I’ve had my eyes on it for awhile. All the positive praise in this thread finally pushed me over the edge, so much appreciated!

What class are you playing? The Drukhari timed one you have to go left first (at least I did). Are you playing on normal? Dont worry about exploring the map- go kill the Pain Machine on the left, focus on it. Then go right. Kill the second one. Most times you can run away from the other enemies until you get those two. I can see the Assassin and Psyker being pains to do defense missions. Give me a big dude in power armor any day

I wish that they had retinue companions you could take - kind of like D3 and I wish my Commissar Servo-Skull made funny/sarcastic quips like the ghost in Van Helsing.

This game makes me wish for a Pillars of Eternity/Baldur's Gate type RPG set in the Dark Heresy RPG world with Fallout 1/2 type combat.

Yeah, doing assassin, which kicks ass much of the time, but geez.

It's time to open a bottle of Amasec, you deserve it!

So, basically, just in time for PC to enjoy the expansion:

The delay between PC and consoles is usually a few months, we'll try and give an ETA when we have a more or less accurate estimate, this is just my personal guess.

From here

Still, glad they said something.

So Im up to level 65 and have cleared all the story and DLC based content. Im now doing Warzones and Void Campaigns. This is Martyr's version of end game. Leveling has slowed down dramatically and you really need to be punching above your level to get some forward momentum in leveling after lvl 55 or so. War zones appear to be the way you get a feel for how strong you are in gear to your level. No matter what level you start the War Zone (minimum 50) you will start a series of linked missions (10) that will start at level 50 (you can not increase difficulty or add tarot cards). There are 10 levels of War Zone that progress in difficulty until you basically get an endless mode. Each level has 10 linked missions (so 100 missions until endless mode is unlocked). The gear drops are pretty good both from gearing your character and from selling/salvage perspective. Archeotech gear (Red) starts dropping at 50 and Ive had about 5-6 pieces drop. Gear is all about stats and not necessarily level and it is not unusual to have a piece of gear that is 10-15 "levels" below you because the rolls on that gear are just too good to lose. Dont forget you can also reroll the enhancements at the Tech Priest ( a limited number of times). I would not worry about improving the level of a piece of gear until you are probably in the 90s based on the cost it takes. You are going to spend lots of money crafting so I would recommend only buying orange/red recipes from the store or only ones you may specifically need for your build. You'll get a lot of recipe drops from missions as you progress. Explore the whole map as there are treasure chests and boss fights that are occasionally squirreled away in a corner and they can have good loot.

It is $25 on Amazon for the PS4 or Xbox One version.

That's a good price. Patch 2.0 makes it so much better so I cant compare console version and the PC.

Is the DLC worth it? If so, which to buy and which to avoid?

How do you craft stuff? And when does crafting become available?

If you're playing the campaign it happens after a couple hours (guesstimating timed played until beat the mission when crafting unlocked, not that it's time-based). I've never played adventure mode so don't know how it works there.

Edit: I was trying not to spoil anything, but the way to access crafting gets added to your ship's bridge (ie. menu).

You'll follow the campaign and you'll play a mission where you will unlock that ability. There will be a tutorial that pops open when you first access the individual on the Command Bridge that lets you craft.

I think they are are all on sale for the Steam sale. They basically add a brief - maybe 5-10 missions story driven mini campaign. I think they are 2.99 each and some unlock a cosmetic when you complete the story. I enjoyed them, but they can certainly be skipped w/zero impact. If you are picking and choosing - the one that unlocks a vendor where you can buy orange (relic) items is pretty handy. I dont regret the full purchase price - I bought them all.

From a cosmetic item purchase - the Commissar Servo Skull is a neat little companion to have. A lot less creepy than the cherubs.

Side Note: Something the game doesnt really cover (no pun intended), probably because it makes no "reality" sense is that you can be in cover and get that protection bonus regardless of whether you are behind, beside, or in front of the cover. The enemy can be sitting right next to you and you are still getting that bonus. Very handy when your are trying to whittle down a Dreadnaught or Sentinel or fighting several Chaos Marines at once. You can also run cover to cover - highlight the next piece of terrain you want to use and if there is a little yellow dot - it can be used as cover - just hit space and your Inquisitor will run to it. You recharge both health and suppression faster in cover.

You gave them death, generously!
