[Discussion] Discussions & Debates Videos

videos with subject matter more suited to d&d than everything else. to be discussed and / or debated, with offshot threads if discussion on a particular video or subject warrants it.

Little queens say the darndest things.

Let’s not forget the full team

They are all appearing in each other’s videos now. And then they go onto the Destiny’s stream for a chat. Seems Oliver was referencing Destiny in the Sex Work video so I hope the two do have a little chin wag soon.

Housing Vouchers and Neighborhood Mobility

Stewart's been on that beat hard pretty much since 9/11. He's had great moments on the Daily Show about it. Which accomplished nothing, because we are in a dystopian hellscape kleptocracy.

I can't help but wish that Stewart would put his reason and passion and connections to use helping far more people. Ailing 9-11 first responders absolutely deserve support but I'd love to see him play as the conscience and wisdom of liberals as whole instead.

You can't tilt your moral lance at everything all the time. He feels called to this, I'm glad he's doing it.

I just wish we had more Heroes of Reason to have the luxury of spreading them around so thinly.

reporter: *asks clear yes or no question*
Pompeo: "i don't want to get into hypotheticals"
reporter: *repeats question*
pompeo: *pretends not to understand the question*

I can't decide if they are naturally bad at this, or if they just aren't bothering to try any more.

This is basically all politicians, all the time, when asked a question they just don't want to answer. It has been this way for years, and is largely why I don't bother watching most Sunday morning political news shows any more. Politicians don't agree to go on these shows to answer questions, they just repeat their talking points over and over.

well yes I realize that, but they are usually more skilled at it than the obvious fumbling Pompeo did in that interview.

Chris Wallace did a better job of interviewing Pompeo.

How the filibuster broke the US senate

I think it was a post from Ego Man that supplied the new name for coal

Spoiler:

freedom rocks

which resulted in some video nostalgia:

I’ve definitely had jobs like this, though my first job actually wasn’t so bad- it was at a small, hyper-specialized electronics factory where management wasn’t able to enforce the level of control a larger corporation is able to. Not that they didn’t try, but the employees largely stood up for each other the way a union would since it was a small town of around 1200 people and everyone knew each other.

This video hits home hard, especially as I contemplate a return to Regina with a chequered work history.

The referenced Tucker Carlson segment:

What a world we live in.

I think Dems need to start using reverse psychology. Just have Pelosi talk about how terrible it would be to release the migrants and not go to war and tax the rich and enact gun control. Liberals hate all those things! Big, crocodile libtears. It could work.

A slightly dramatic reading of the Mueller report.

I have a pretty strict rule of these days of keeping my weekends for me, and thus never checking Twitter more than 2-3 times a day, and only for a few seconds.

However, I happened to come across this Twitter video during my last check of the day and I am quite genuinely sitting here, open-mouthed in amazement. We live in an economy of hot-takes, and yet this one feels like someone just poured molten iron into my ear.

my 'favorite' part is that "i love my job, why would i stop, it's not like it hurts" is said opposite of stock footage of an automotive assembly line.

Reminds me of when Bush Jr. talked with a woman asking for help because she had to hold 3 jobs to take care of her family, and he decided it was awesome America had 3 jobs available for one person.

Good point. Unretired old folk can totally build guillotines. Why would they stop?
