Hidden Gems of Hulu and Hulu+

Also the only place to get King of the Hill or Brooklyn 99 streaming.

I've just started Lodge 49. Took a couple of episodes, but I'm starting to sink into it a bit. Not entirely sold, but getting there.

There seem to be some very slight hints at weird otherworldly-ness, but they are very slight, so slight I'm not sure they are really there. The one thing that seems to suggest this might go to weirder places is the casting (in a very minor role) of the actor who played the hilariously bad villain from S2 of Twin Peaks...Windom Earle, master of disguise!

Season 2 of Legion is up today.

Pen15 is just a wonderfully funny distillation of the awkwardness of being a 7th grader made even more hilarious because the main characters (and show creators) are 30 year-old women playing 13 year-olds and all the other actors are actual teenagers.

Who thinks they can recapture lightning in a bottle?

I do! I do!

We finally got around to starting Killing Eve the other night, and it really delivers. I had been holding off on it to get my wife interested. She is a big Sandra Oh fan, so u knew she would like it, but it kept failing to make the cut.

Beyond being a great showcase for Oh, it’s just really a fantastic spy show with a great sense of humor and a really dark voice. Like a British version of Dexter (although a completely different story). It pretty much ticks every box for my wife, who lives British crime drama, spy thrillers, and, of course, Oh.

Just finished the first season of this and it's magnificent. Another recent example of a show that I never got around to despite the rave reviews because on paper it reads like a pure cliche but they nail it. Kudos to the writers who make the show weirdly funny while still making everything feel grounded and serious when it needs to be.

Killing Eve is so good. I need to start the second season!

Yes. Yes. A thousand times yes. Also, they added JK Simmons and Patton Oswalt to the cast. I'm swooning.

Almost makes up for the cancellation of Counterpart? Almost.

Does this mean The Good Place is getting canceled or is she doing both shows?

I believe this gets mentioned every time Killing Eve is brought up, but Phoebe Waller-Bridge is the head writer and producer of Killing Eve. She also wrote and stars in Fleabag (on Amazon Prime) which is equally funny and brilliant- although a different premise entirely. Half hour comedy about a woman with strained relationships with her sister and father, and trying to survive in life. A lot of the humor comes from her dialogue with the audience with some brilliant 4th-wall breaks. Worth seeking out.

Must be both shows since The Good Place is filming season 4 now--it's a half-hour show that only does 13 episodes a year anyway.

Three new episodes of The Handmaid's Tale are out today.

I don’t know whether anyone’s mentioned Travel Man yet, but it’s worth mentioning again if it has. It’s essentially your standard travel show, but is hosted by Richard Ayoade which automatically makes it 130% better!

Hulu currently has the first seven seasons.

Well, pitter patter.

Why is it taking so long? It's f*ckING EMBARASSING!

This pleases me greatly

Was that Ted Danson on her phone's background?

No.

Really enjoying How I Met Your Mother. I’m only watching the “best of episodes but it’s quite enjoyable to watch that way as a light comedy.

One of my favorite shows, aside from some issues with the original finale. Alternate version is better but still a bit off.

Did a series rewatch over the winter/spring just whenever I had a few minutes, would throw an episode on Hulu.

Hold up, there was an alternate ending? I saw the one that aired. Now I’m curious. What should I be looking for?

Watched a few episodes of Veronica Mars last night. It's great!

It's out there on YouTube. Basically they just cut the last couple minutes with the kids.

It doesn't really fit either, since there's strong foreshadowing that

Spoiler:

Tracy dies, and the alternate ending doesn't have that. Which then begs the question why is he telling the story to start with? They should have blended the two endings.

Still it's better than what aired.

Can't seem to get the link from the mobile app, but they added the brand new Apollo 11 doc with all the remastered footage. Enjoy!

Season 2 of Castle Rock is here. The first 3 episodes are available to watch with new episodes added Wednesdays. I watched episode 1 and it's very good. Looking forward to seeing what the rest of the season has to offer.

I also watched Little Monsters, a Hulu original movie staring Lupita Nyong'o. She's the best thing about it, the rest of it is not great. But if you just need to see more of Lupita Nyong'o in anything and don't mind watching what's basically a mediocre rom-com featuring zombies...

I mentioned the new Castle rock season in the TV thread. We've watched the first two episodes, and it really delivers on the Stephen King nostalgia like the first season, but this is much, much darker, which is saying a lot.

But I'm really liking the story they are developing, but this will require an open mind. If you are going to call out canon, this is going to dive you up a wall. Timelines are just washed away, and this feels more like a reboot of some stories than a continuation. But I do think it is working really, really well.

I would say that Salem's Lot would be a good book to check out before the series, although it is not necessary, at all. Of King's important works, I'd say Salem's Lot is among the least well known, and it figures into this season pretty heavily.

I wouldn't call Salem's Lot one of the least well know of King's book. Maybe for people under 20. There was a movie, tv series, and major Dark Tower tie in to the book. Not on the level of IT or Misery but I would have put it as one of the most well known books. I could be wrong, I do rather enjoy vampires.

It is encouraging to hear you are liking the second season of Castle Rock. I'm a massive Stephen King fan, and couldn't get through season one, but I might give this one a chance.
