Hidden Gems of Netflix's Watch Instantly

Watched I am Mother and liked it. There are only three or two people in the movie depending on if you count robots. The movie didn't go where I thought it would. The robot looked pretty good. The story was okay. Acting was good. Robot was believable.

The trailer isn't a good representation of the movie. There are things in the trailer that has the same screen time in the movie. So if you saw something cool in the trailer hoping to see more of it in the movie you will be disappointed.

I think the title is a reference to another movie but I could be wrong. The movie didn't really sell it enough if that is what they were going for.

Anyway its worth a watch.

The way the trailer went, I got the same feeling I did as with Horizon Zero Dawn. It has many of the same set pieces - apocalypse, robot/digital entity is called Mother, robots raising a human in a bunker. I'll probably add it to the list.

I also enjoyed I Am Mother, and while it's not great, it is a fun watch and I would totally recommend it.

Watched the first season of Black Spot. Hella good mystery/weird forest show.

Why did the post credit scenes bug me so much with this new batch of Black Mirror episodes? I know they have done this sort of thing in the past but it seemed like then the main story was mostly resolved and the post credit scenes were a bonus.

This time it felt like I was slowly watching water boil for an hour and then right when the kettle was about to whistle it cuts to black and it says "Written by Charlie Brooker" on the screen. Followed by a quick cut of someone grabbing a spoon, more credits, someone holding a teabag, more credits, and finally someone walking out of the room holding a cup. Why did I watch water boil for an hour if you're not going to show me the tea?

Watched S5 of Black Mirror, I'll agree it feels like they've run out of ideas.

Spoiler:

Vipers felt like much ado about open marriage.
I liked Smithereens mostly because I'm a big fan of Andrew Scott and Topher Grace is always fun to watch.
Ashley Too was... meh? The toy was fun to watch. Magical sci-fi technology that allows for actual human consciousness to be fit into a next-gen tamagochi was eye roll inducing.

But that has been a part of the Black Mirror world for many episodes.

Spoiler:

Notably: White Christmas and Black Museum. But also others too.

This is going to be really out there; but Resurrection: Eartugul is on my watch list. The subtitles are terrible; the plot moves at a glacial pace and its very soapy and low budget, but I keep coming back to it. Dunno why.

Eurtugul is heavily subsidized by the Turkish govt and this show is basically propaganda.

Might not be your cup of tea but it's entertaining despite all its flaws.

There's just enough time for an epi-a-day watch/rewatch of Dark before Season 2 hits.

I'm only 3 episodes in, but season 3 of Riverdale is batsh*t insane.

Yup! And ain't it great?

Just finished What If. It was trash, but fun to watch with a glass of wine.

Hail the Gargoyle King! I'm a level 4 Deadeye!

Watched Morris from America which is about a black kid living in Germany with his father. There isn't much to the movie but I liked it.

Finally - finally - got round to finishing season 3 of The Good Place. It wobbles quite a lot at the start before finding itself again by the end - it sure layers on the emotion though to get through.

Looking forward to season 4 which will also be its last. I can’t help thinking that’s probably about right.

Not out in the states yet.

Jessica Jones Season 3 episode 1 was pretty good. There is a side story or two people might not dig but I didn't mind them. I didn't watch any trailers so I have no idea what this season is about.

Now that came out of nowhere for me.
I'll watch it, but I really wasn't a fan of the previous season.

I think it actually dropped last Friday, but I just noticed Season 3 of 3% is out now. I have no idea where they're going to take this, but I'm in for another season.

Jessica Jones S03E02 is all about Trish. So if you hate Trish you are going to hate it and if you like her you might love it. You wont miss the easter egg even if you don't read comics.

Jessica Jones S03E03 was good but takes a turn for the worse. They dive into a storyline with Holgarth that seems pointless. Or I don't see how it can turn into the main plot. hmmm well I honestly not sure if the main plot of the season has been introduced. The main theme is gain something lose something. This might turn out to be more like season two which didn't have a main villain. To early to say right now.

Minor thing about hospital scene, just didn't like how they handled the passage of time.

Spoiler:

Jessica leaves the hospital early. This causes her to pass out and get put back into the hospital. She tells the doctor she wont leave again. A few minutes later she is out of the hospital. I guess we are to assume some time has passed. However, the passage of time doesn't really make sense because Trish ran off to do something that probably took hours and Jessica caught up with her. Jessica looked like she had to spend days in the hospital. She lost a spleen for crying out loud.

I was pretty sure I saw June 7 as the date for JJ but when I checked last Fri it wasn't there. Been waiting for this one a while. Her episodes may not always have been the best but I think she's definitely my favorite character of all the Netflix Marvel stuff.

Season 3 of Jessica Jones, brought to you by Michters.

Not that it's that expensive but drinking how she does she must be doing pretty well for herself to have that much on hand at all times.

Season 2 of Black Spot is out on Netflix

Done with Jessica Jones and liked it. There was a couple of times where events were played out of order. The second time was a bit confusing and unneeded. A bad guy was pretty forgettable but still worked to move the plot. Anyway I liked this more than season 2 but not as much as season 1.

I also liked Jessica Jones S3 a lot. In fact I've really liked all three seasons. The 2nd and 3rd didn't quite have the impact of the 1st, but not by a very wide margin.

Spoiler:

The trailers that teased Salinger as the central villain were a bit of a fake-out. He didn't really play a big active role in the season's plot; certainly he was a less central character than Kilgrave in season 1 or Alisa in season 2. In a way he was more of a Macguffin than a real villain with much agency. (I understand he was based on a comics character who goes by the name Foolkiller, who I'm unfamiliar with, but I'm pretty sure that name was never mentioned in the show.)

Arguably Trish was almost more of a lead character this season than Jessica. The dominant theme of the season was Trish dealing (badly) with her new powers. This was kind of a thematic echo of season 2: both were about people close to Jessica who gained powers and couldn't handle them in the end. In season 2, Trish saved Jessica from having to make the final call; in season 3, Jessica finally has to front up and make the decision herself.

As usual, Jeri Hogarth was one of the best characters in the series. The writers and Carrie Anne Moss pulled off a perfect balancing act that gave me just enough sympathy for her to feel bad at how badly she screwed up in the end.

4 episodes of JJ to finish today but yeah, so far so good.

Season 3's out? Guess I should really buckle down and finally watch the second season...which will have to wait until I get through season 2 of Dark.

Netflix certainly is cranking out some great non-English content.

Tales of the City - aside from been quite good, it is also well worth noting how delightfully queer it is. The actors are queer, including trans actors, which is quite refreshing to see.

Watched Beats and liked it. A inner city kid and his is shot. The sister dies and the kid is left with a extreme case of PTSD. The kid spends all his time at creating music. A school janitor and former music producer finds out about and pushes to a make music as a career.

There were a few bad things in the movie that I think will turn people off. The language towards people with mental health problems. The treatment of kids that aren't your kids. The blood might be to much for people. I'm not sure how I feel about these things. Was the movie just being real or being to real? I don't know.

Oh and this has nothing to do with Dre or the other movie that came out this year also called Beats.
