[Discussion] Hope to Remember The Trump Administration Thread as being 'transparent and honest'

Let's follow and discuss what our newest presidential administration gets up to, the good, the bad, the lawsuits, and the many many indictments.

Well, they don't really give press conferences anymore do they?

Maybe she's bored because she doesn't get to go out there to troll a bunch of reporters and enjoy watching them have to take her abuse.

I just read that they have had 8 press conferences in 300 days. Is there a stronger word than incompetent?

Fascism

The suggestion is that she’s going to run for governor of Arkansas.

I don't think I'd call it incompetence.

There's no upside to being the spokesperson for someone who literally pretended to be his own spokesperson once and who gets mad if he thinks the press is paying too much attention to someone other than him.

Sanders has long argued that her position (and the once daily press briefings) have become obsolete given Trump's use of Twitter. That's garbage, of course, because Trump doesn't answer questions on Twitter and when he does talk directly to the media, it's when he's running to catch a helicopter to AF1 so he can go golfing.

You'll also note that everyone else in the administration has learned to stop talking about, or even defending, any policy Trump's pushing. That's because they've all be caught trying to spin or "clarify" Trump's remarks only to have him go on Twitter and completely contradict whatever BS they've been slinging.

As someone who lives in that state I can only scream in horror.

It wouldn’t surprise me around here.

I figured she would want to be remembered as a Brave Lion of Judea, fighting against the vile forces of the Anti-Christ.

than she shouldn't have taken the job as his press secretary?

eh that may be giving trump more credit than he deserves.

I think I enjoyed the last line of the article the best.

Those people are entirely oblivious to the fact that their behaviors are anti-Christian.

Emails: Trump official consulted global warming rejecters

The Associated Press wrote:

A Trump administration national security official has sought help from advisers to a think tank that disavows climate change to challenge widely accepted scientific findings on global warming, according to his emails.

The request from William Happer, a member of the National Security Council, is included in emails from 2018 and 2019 that were obtained by the Environmental Defense Fund under the federal Freedom of Information Act and provided to The Associated Press. That request was made this past March to policy advisers with the Heartland Institute, one of the most vocal challengers of mainstream scientific findings that emissions from burning coal, oil and gas are damaging the Earth’s atmosphere.

In a March 3 email exchange Happer and Heartland adviser Hal Doiron discuss Happer’s scientific arguments in a paper attempting to knock down climate change as well as ideas to make the work “more useful to a wider readership.” Happer writes he had already discussed the work with another Heartland adviser, Thomas Wysmuller.

...

The National Security Council declined to make Happer available to discuss the emails.

The AP and others reported earlier this year that Happer was coordinating a proposed White House panel to challenge the findings from scientists in and out of government that carbon emissions are altering the Earth’s atmosphere and climate.

President Donald Trump in November rejected the warnings of a national climate change assessment by more than a dozen government agencies.

“I don’t believe it,” he said.

Happer, a physicist who previously taught at Princeton University, has claimed that carbon dioxide, the main heat-trapping gas from the burning of coal, oil and gas, is good for humans and that carbon emissions have been demonized like “the poor Jews under Hitler.” Trump appointed him in late 2018 to the National Security Council, which advises the president on security and foreign policy issues.

...

After joining the agency, Happer sent a February 2019 email to NASA deputy administrator James Morhard relaying a complaint from an unidentified rejecter of man-made climate change about NASA’s website.

“I’m concerned that many children are being indoctrinated by this bad science,” said the email that Happer relayed.

Happer’s own message was redacted from the records obtained by the environmental group.

Ruined my birthday, thanks.

Sorry, but just like with Flag Day, Trump has to remind you that the entire universe centers around him. No day is not his day.

I don't know why we have a day for a stephen king character. What next a pennywise day.

That would be Flagg Day.

So you have a day for a MASH character as well?

Weird. Thanks to Trump (Thanks Trump!) I just learned that today is Danish "Flag day". 800 year anniversary even. I'll go find a flag to awkwardly hug!

I thought an interesting thing Trump said during his interview with Stephanoplis was when he was talking about Kamla Harris' comment that she would like to see Trump brought up on charges when he leaves office.

He says that she is getting beaten up in the polls and just said it to get traction. Then he said he doesn't blame her, that he would say the same thing if she was in his position.

This is Trump explaining his entire history of lying. He literally made a case for saying whatever a moment calls for, regardless of the truth. The exchange starts early, at the :35 second mark.

Interview with George Stephanopoulos in the Oval Office, in only 1 minute 21 seconds:

  • Trump gushes over how his "financial statement" is much much bigger and much much better than anyone else's
  • Trump is talking about his tax returns but keeps calling it a "financial statement"
  • Trump says the Senate is after it, when it's actually 2 House committees
  • Trump says "I hope they get it" and he "might" turn it over, when the only one blocking the release of his tax returns is Trump himself (through instructions to the IRS)
  • Trump says releasing his tax returns is up to lawyers, not him, which is a lie
  • Trump complains that Congress is asking for things they've never asked any other president for, but that's only because every other president (back to Nixon) released their tax returns voluntarily during the campaign
  • Finally, Trump kicks his chief of staff out of the oval office for coughing and demands George Stephanopoulos do a do-over

And now Pence is losing his communications director too

Washington (CNN)Vice President Mike Pence's communications director Jarrod Agen is leaving the administration after two and a half years, CNN has learned. Agen was one of the vice president's most trusted advisers who held multiple roles in Pence's office.

What was his quote about not revealing all his plans?

It is only a plan to get his deplorables riled up again.

Exactly. And to take some of the attention off of his recent interview. He’s a drama queen that neeeeeeeds attention.

farley3k wrote:

No, it's actually a plan. One that wasn't carried out before because--like with every Trump plan--they hadn't really prepared for it.
