E3 2019: Nintendo Conference [June 11, 12:00PM EST]

Links Awakening looks adorable! Breath of the Wild 2 sold. Final Fantasy VIII Remaster, sure why not, loved that game! Guess my wavering on getting a switch is done for.

I was all set to buy the Collection of Mana, but then I checked and it's $50 (CAD). That made me reconsider... for now. I assume Seiken Densetsu 3 is worth playing though, so it's only a matter of time before I pull the trigger on it.

I'm gonna miss some Daemon X Machina gameplay, which I'm certain I'm the only one interested in playing still after the demo.

I'm watching some gameplay of that on the Treehouse stream, and it looks so much better than the demo. They look to have sped up the game quite a bit, or else they're showcasing something a bit later in the game. Either way, I'm back to being interested in it after being really put off by the demo.

DxM's UI continues to obscure too much of the screen like a game from the 90's.

Level design continues to be odd too. Feels like everything is randomly placed in the world.

Heck, everything feels random on the battlefield. Random crap happening all over the place.

Dunno, I'm not feeling this or Astral Chain.

Can't believe Witcher 3 Complete is gonna be playable in portable format.

Witcher 3 is going to be available in portable format. I remain skeptical of playable.

I played it on a 2013 iMac with a mix of medium and high settings and hovered around 45fps the whole time and was constantly impressed at how good even that looked. Presumably a Switch can match that.

Now if the Switch version is playable and fixes the absolutely rubbish combat, then I'm all-in.

Good luck with that.

Aonuma has said in a few interviews that they were looking at ways to make more use of the Breath of the Wild map, that it seemed wasteful to create this whole world and all its assets and then use it for just a single game. It's helpful to remember that his first Zelda project was Majora's Mask, a game made in a year from the assets created for Ocarina of Time.

The big appeal to me of Breath of the Wild was exploration. This makes a sequel with the same map disheartening.

If Ubisoft can recycle old maps and get away with it I'm sure Nintendo can find a way to use the original map as a baseline and make a lot of major changes to familiar locations that make it worth it.

Everything I've watched on Treehouse so far has just gotten me fired up to be a Switch owner. Not only did I love the single-player footage of Luigi's Mansion 3 yesterday, I really enjoyed the co-op mode they showcased today. It seems like a great addition and idea.

I'm digging the look of Fire Emblem Three Houses, but I've basically been sold on this game regardless.

Trials of Mana is looking really good. Worth noting it's not a Switch exclusive and looks to also be releasing on PS4. This seems like the remake everyone wanted the Secret of Mana remake to be. I have a feeling Seiken Densetsu 3 is the more popular of the two in Japan, so that coupled with never having been released in America before, I imagine Square Enix thought it worth putting the money and budget into this while remaking Secret of Mana on a shoestring budget.

I'm hoping this kicks the franchise into gear so we can get a new entry in it, but we'll see. I still need to go back and look up the gameplay for Link's Awakening and Animal Crossing (even though I don't anticipate getting that one myself). The Marvel Ultimate Alliance gameplay looked solid enough, but kind of like a "LEGO game but for older kids" rather than something I'm itching to get my hands on. Also need to watch that Daemon X Machina gameplay.

It's funny, I was beginning to feel like 2019 was just filler for the rest of the industry, but Nintendo's got me hyped up for the remainder of this year.

That's perfectly put.

I think Ubisoft can get away with it because the difference in topological value between the games.

Far Cry 4's map is pretty irrelevant because you can zip around pretty much anywhere with ease. You're not so much exploring as observing the terrain. Your mobility makes the world small.

Primals' map is extremely relevant because you're on foot all the time, fast-traveling minimally because it takes resources, and learning the terrain because you're traversing it multiple times. The map feels much larger.

I don't think 5 and New Dawn can get away with it because they much more similar games.

Watched part of the "Fire Emblem" Treehouse and is it me or does Three Houses look like it's closer to Echoes than Awakening?

- More freedom to reclass units
- Full voice acting
- No weapons triangle
- Combat arts
- Archers can attack from close range

I really loved Echoes, so I might be back in if the game isn't too pervy and if it's more like Echoes.

That's the impression I was getting and I'm pretty much on the same page here.

Oh, and a version of Mila's Turnwheel.

I'm wondering if the game was a 2019 release due to positive reception to Echoes? I know Fates sold incredibly well but reception has seemed to grow more and more negative on the part of the fanbase.

Or perhaps Echoes just represented a fresh take compared to where the series had been, and they wanted to pursue that further.

How much of the map do you remember? It's a big map! As long as the shrines are in different locations, won't it feel kind of new?

It could be like Dark World from Link to the Past.

Yes, based on the same maps but so much changed you don’t really know what you’re gonna find where.

Evidently if you listen to the Breath of the Wild 2 audio in reverse there's a secret message to hail Satan.

Not really. But I'm curious if anyone could listen to the audio first before reading the news story and determine if you heard a message, because after being told what to listen for, you kind of end up hearing it.

Y'know, like how those ghost hunting shows try to operate.

Wait, it’s not an online thing? Why did I think it was an online-only game?

Oh, there's absolutely online stuff with mp. What I like in what Chris said is that the game is kind of a button mashing game a la Lego, but for teens or adults.

Are you maybe thinking of the Avengers game which has GaaS stuff?

I had gotten my hopes up so much about the 2013 Wii U game that I completely forgot that we were supposed to get new hardware at E3. Where's the Switch Pro and the Switch Mini?

Delayed to 2020 like everything else!

I have to go on a family vacation in August and there is no WiFi. I was REALLY hoping to get a newer switch before then.

Same source as last time.

Yes? He said it would come as early as summer. (Eurogamer backed him up.) Weeks later he reported that Furakawa as saying there'd be no new hardware at E3.

Couldn't find anywhere where he gave other dates or anything.

In summer!

Definitely could be. So much stuff coming I tend to get it mixed up.
