E3 2019: Nintendo Conference [June 11, 12:00PM EST]

Paradox had teased they were doing some project with John Romero during a recent podcast. A strategy-looking game about gangsters wasn't what I was expecting, but they have my interest.

The voice acting has been pretty awful across the board so far.

Anyone know if Animal Cross is supposed to be shown at all today? I haven't been keeping up.

Oh man, Mario Olympics is giving me some nostalgia chills. Fun party game!

AC delay to 2020. BOOOOOOOO!

Banjo's Smash announcement was some grade A trolling. I probably need to go back and play those games. No idea if they would hold up.

BoTW Sequel! Hell yes!

Teaser into BOTW sequel...eek

Dark Crystal tactics? Who the hell saw that coming?

I didn't but I am on board! Love tactics games (even though I stink at them)

English Seiken Densetsu 3 (Secret of Mana sequel) is the biggest news and nobody mentioned it!

Glad to see the BOTW sequel.

I'll leave it to others to analyze the picture of the map at the end, but I wonder how much of the map they are going to be reusing from BOTW? It can't have been cheap to make it the first time, so if they saved some money on that I couldn't really blame them.

Looked good. Seems like they used the DQ engine (or whatever) to get those sweet, sweet graphics. I adore how clean DQXI looks so glad they're bringing that to other games.

My prediction this year was a Majora's Mask style spin-off, so using the same map and remixing it some would fit. Or maybe it's a full sequel in the classic sense, we'll see!*

*In like two years no doubt

At the end of the trailer it sure looks like Hyrule castle is being pulled out of the ground, kinda suggests maybe moving to a new land mass or something. Hmmmm.

I'm curious if the plan was always to re-use the map. They indicated that the sequel would come faster than the original dev on BotW. This would certainly be a way to do that. Throw in some cataclysm and remake the existing make appropriately. Smart business decision.

Metroid and F-Zero get the shaft again. My two favorite franchises always are neglected. I was hoping for the Prime Trilogy at least.

There is a lot to look forward to though....

This is what surprised me the most actually. Didn’t think this collection was ever going to come West.

Not too much that interested me today unfortunately. I didn't like Breath of the Wild, so I have no interest in the sequel. I also don't play Smash, so although the character reveals were cool I'm not going to play them. Everything else was just new trailers for games that we already know are coming. The new Contra and Dark Crystal Tactics look awesome, but that's it.

Hell yes! I'm sure it's a couple years out, but it's nice to know they're sticking with this template for another game. BotW is likely my favorite game this generation.

It was a good conference. I was just hoping for a couple more surprises, since I already knew plenty about all the other games I'm interested in, like Pokemon and DQ XI. Astral Chains looks pretty good too. I'm surprised we still haven't heard anything new about Bayonetta 3.

I'm wavering on Cadence of Hyrule. On one hand, I never played Necrodance and don't know how well I would be at it; on the other hand, it was supposed to be good and the Zelda wrapping of this one might pull me in.

I also wonder if the Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles remaster will be cross play, since Sony seems to be easing up on that front. I'm interested in revisiting it since I never finished it on the gamecube, but unless I can get a party to play through it with, I don't think I'll get it anywhere close to full price.

Honestly, the best part of the conference was the music. Link's Awakening was especially dope sounding.

No Mother 3? No 2013 Wii U game port? Man, I was lied to!

Or maybe this is a valuable lesson in not putting too much faith in the vague auguries of full-time leakers.

No Star Fox Yarn.

E3 has finally moved from the press conferences being interesting to the gameplay presentations after them being what's interesting to me.

Can still be announced during Treehouse! Mueller will save us all from Trump!

Can't believe Witcher 3 Complete is gonna be playable in portable format.

Incredible.

Boom! Treehouse just announced contempt of Congress charges.

Witcher 3 is going to be available in portable format. I remain skeptical of playable.

Now if the Switch version is playable and fixes the absolutely rubbish combat, then I'm all-in.

The ol' Saints Row 4.

Pretty underwhelming press conference. The BotW sequel "reveal" at the end seems to me like it filling the void where an exciting, more imminent first-party game should be.

Aonuma has said in a few interviews that they were looking at ways to make more use of the Breath of the Wild map, that it seemed wasteful to create this whole world and all its assets and then use it for just a single game. It's helpful to remember that his first Zelda project was Majora's Mask, a game made in a year from the assets created for Ocarina of Time.

Don't worry Blind, I got your back.

I watched the conference with my buddy and his two youngest, with the middle child (5) fired up to purchase almost everything that showed up on screen. He was very excited about the co-op potential of Luigi's Mansion 3, and having watched the Treehouse presentation, I'm just fired up, period. I need a release date, Nintendo!

I really liked the look of Astral Chain as well. Interesting that they have customization options for your character. Unfortunately they seem to just take the skin color and apply it to your sibling character, which... well, made it look like someone used the paint bucket tool on an anime design of a white girl, and that's kind of unfortunate. Still, it's interesting they'd offer customization at all, as I feel like Japanese games don't offer it that often.

I'm gonna miss some Daemon X Machina gameplay, which I'm certain I'm the only one interested in playing still after the demo.

But really, while the Collection of Mana release was rumored/leaked and therefore less of a surprise, it was still... well, I mean, it was kind of a "Oh snap it's real and it's out today!" moment, which was just icing on the cake of a new Mana game that's not a mobile title, but an honest-to-goodness console game.

It was the surprise I wanted out of Square Enix's conference but was saved for Nintendo's.

I'm watching some gameplay of that on the Treehouse stream, and it looks so much better than the demo. They look to have sped up the game quite a bit, or else they're showcasing something a bit later in the game. Either way, I'm back to being interested in it after being really put off by the demo.

It's also evidently a remake of Seiken Densetsu 3, which I only now discovered is named "Trials of Mana" for the States while looking up the Mana Collection on the Nintendo eShop.

So I guess it's not an honest-to-goodness new Mana title, but it certainly looks to have a better budget than the Secret of Mana remake.

Kind of funny seeing it priced at $40 for a GameBoy game and two SNES games when The Last Remnant, an Xbox 360 game, is half the price.

I'm gonna have to comb through some of the Treehouse footage I missed today. Hearing that Daemon x Machina is looking faster could be good.
