Random thing you loathe right now.

My XBox One controller will not connect to my PC anymore. It connects to my XBox just fine, but when I connect it via USB to my PC, it does not connect.

Don't mean to point out the obvious, but you have tried a variety of USB cables and ports, right?

My wireless dongle for my One controller on PC stopped working. Took the extension cable out of the loop and switched to a different USB port, and hey presto!

You would think that with a PhD in science, I would notice that since I added the USB rechargeable battery to my controller, there are now two (2) USB ports on my controller.

Narrator - You are wrong, he did not notice.

*snicker* Happens to all of us.

This heat. Its 105 degrees where I am. I also hate my town. It sucks.

Bad subway etiquette.

When the train pulls up, and there are clearly people on the other side waiting to get off, don’t stand RIGHT IN FRONT of the door and block their path. Just don’t. And certainly don’t push your way on as people exit. Just chill. You’ll get on the train.

Every day with this BS.

Clients who don't pay yet keep sending emails how unacceptable it is that we're not resolving their issues at 2 am in the morning while I was, in fact, up until 2:30 am trying to solve their issue.

This one drives me nuts. I always want to say, "Physics, how does that work? Can we occupy the same space at the same time? No? Okay, then one of us has to let the other one by".

One of the many, many things I admired about the crowded Tokyo/Yokohama region is how people invariably split to the side of the doors to allow people to exit first. In nearly five years there, I never once saw people blocked from getting off the train, even on a crowded platform.

Come to Osaka and have one of those feisty obachans elbow you in the gut as they queue jump.

Wife and I had a very different experience over New Years at Tokyo station. Trains themselves were fine but the station was...well my wife is greatly ashamed of her countrymen and considers Japanese no better than North Americans. I think it was a bunch of different people bodychecking out stroller with our f*cking child in it.

People in my city do this sometimes. But if they split to the side, they don’t split all the way. Instead, they make a little tunnel no more than 3 feet wide. That bothers me too, but much less than when they block the door.

As if the flooding in and around St. Louis isn't bad enough, it is also causing a region-wide infestation of various gnats, flies and midges. The weather this week has been spectacular, but I can barely go outside and enjoy it because you're constantly bombarded by swarms of bugs flying in your face, your ears, your eyes, it's terrible. Biking is the only outdoor activity I can enjoy right now, because I'm moving so fast. Sitting out on my deck with a beer in the evening? No way.

I know it! Our dog park is in Wilmore Park, which runs right along River des Peres. I didn't use bug spray the other night, and it was awful. There is a decent amount of flooding in the park, although the dog park area sits high enough that it really doesn't get flooded. But, the bugs are totally out.

In DC, the doors are usually clear for exit. Too many military, frustrated White office drones and young gun types willing to run people down if they stand in the way. To boot, if you did get run down, you’d get no sympathy.

Damn near the same for the “stand right, walk left” escalator social convention.

In my experience (mostly as a tourist) there's more body checking on a metro commute than there is in a stanly cup final game.

Funny, DC was exactly where I was complaining about.

I forgot a gallon of milk in my trunk. I thought something smelled a little off in the morning, and after work when my car was in the sun all day I realized something was wrong. It more or less exploded and covered half the trunk in a splatter of curdled milk. It turns out curdled milk is really hard to get out of carpet material, so I scraped off what I could and globbed on a pound of baking soda to dry overnight. This is going to take into the weekend to clean completely.

My seven-months-from retirement supervisor. She's a wonderful blend of incompetent and confident, which leads to her leaving a swath of destruction wherever she goes. She's also homophobic and has the personality of a skin tag that's gained sentience and watched nothing but Hannity for six straight weeks. Everything else about my job, I love. But DAMN.

I am 100% a believer in the Dunning-Kruger effect because in my experience incompetence and confidence (or even arrogance) almost always comes hand in hand.

So... what make and model of new car are you getting? *joking*

i've done that before, it is AWFUL, i wish i had good further advice other than just opening it up and airing it out as much as is feasible til the smell abates

Maybe professional carpet cleaner with one of the trucks. My experience with the machines for rent is they don't really have the power they need to do what they are intended to do. They do a nice surface clean but don't really get anything deep down back out.

The floor of your trunk usually lifts out so you could pull it out and then power wash it at a car wash. Sometimes the carpet is attached to a bit of paperboard though so if yours is that way maybe not do the car wash thing. If it is rubber on the back or the carpet comes loose from the paperboard then have at it.

I’m trying to buy a townhouse. I have enough for the 20% deposit. I make more than enough to cover taxes, strata, mortgage, and all other fees. I have a tonne of experience in my very specific industry.

In Feb 2018 I was let go from my job (with a 4 month severance) for reasons that are a separate diatribe. In July/August I started my own company with a business partner. Our holding companies were the investors and we were split 50/50. In March 2019 I left my company for a better opportunity with my father’s new business and got my shareholder’s loan repaid.

I’ve spent the last two weeks gathering all the documents for my mortgage broker. Every time we send them in, we get a request for more documents. The source of my infinite stress is the bank statements from my holding company’s bank show my former business partner’s company and not mine. I’ve been going back and forth with the banker to get signed letters admitting it’s an error on their part. They have been very open it’s their fault.

The deadline for the release of conditions on the townhouse is today. $15,000.00 non-refundable is due tomorrow. The inspection was perfect but the person no longer wants to sell and if I ask for an extension she’ll cancel the deal. We’re due to take possession July 3rd. I won’t hear back from the mortgage lender until tomorrow morning at the earliest. I’ve got the bank draft ready and know I’m risking throwing away $15,000.00 of the mortgage lender doesn’t take us on. Every indication is they have all the documents and we’re approved but there’s still a big risk.

My wife is also pregnant with our second child and is due August 4th. My daughter’s 3rd birthday is June 22nd. Our 6th wedding anniversary is July 1st.

The Raptors better f*cking win tonight so I have something to latch on to.

Boston sports fans.

I made the mistake of commenting on an article that discussed CD Project Red's (more specifically, Cyberpunk) questionable history with LGBTI+ issues. It was a simple "thanks for writing this, please don't think all of your readers are angry that you did this" sort of post.

I woke up this morning to a torrent of angry gamers throwing around insults like "SJW" and "snowflake". I know it's just internet arguments, but it really got to me. There was close to 20 replies to my post, all of them with really flimsy, ad hominem arguments.

It feels like gamer culture is so violently against any suggestion that something game-related can hurt people, and that those hurt can have legitimate feelings about it. I counted maybe 2 comments out of the hundreds that actually recognized that social and gender minorities can be legitimately damaged by mass media representation.

And I don't know where all of this is going. I woke up and instantly felt angry about the culture surrounding my favourite hobby. I'm thankful that GWJ is different, but I'm reminded once again why I just don't engage with Facebook.
