E3 2019: Square Enix [June 10th, 9PM EST]

Looking forward to this. Seems like I'm the only one at the moment.

I'm curious. It has already been confirmed that they'll show Avengers, so it'll be interesting to see what that is. I'm hoping for a deeper look at FFVII Remake and maybe more information on what Babylon's Fall is.

I'm hoping for the connective piece between The Quiet Man and The Bouncer.

I'm definitely looking forward to Square's conference. I need a Japanese company to save me from all those bland American games.

I'm here for a chunky Thor skin for Avengers.

Ooh, nice. I love how you can easily switch characters in combat. They showed a cool segment where Cloud distracted the boss and then you switched to Barret to attack.

I'm sure people will find plenty of reasons to be cynical about FFVII Remake, but I think it looks great. I'm so glad to see it confirmed that it's a hybrid real time ATB system.

I'm skeptical that it will hit the March release date, but I'll play it next year whenever it does release.

I feel like I need to move my birthday or Christmas into the March/April 2020 window at the rate release dates around then are being announced.

Maybe I'll get more than a few hours into the Last Remnant now that it's on Switch. Such a weird game.

It really is. I'm playing the remaster on PS4 at the moment and getting near the end. It's been a wild ride, and I'm sure I wouldn't have made it this far without a guide.

Also glad it's hybrid real time! For me a lot will hinge on the party AI though, if it's smart/tuneable enough that I'm not constantly having to micromanage.

No loot boxes for Avengers! Bingo!

Spider-Man wasn't kidding when he said the Avengers moved to the West Coast.

I'm really, really cynical about the story and the extent to which they're gonna George Lucas the crap out of it, and I was about ready to write it off as not for me. There's no way I can look at some of these changes in an unbiased fashion (I mean what the heck is Aeris freaking out about and what's with that ghost smoke what? What? And when did Cloud give Jesse a ride on his bike? What is this crap?).

But I, uh... I like the look of the combat, even if all the melee action is tied to the square button. I think the problem is I kept seeing Cloud knock guys into the air, and my first thought was back+melee (how it works in DMC), and my second thought was "swap to Barret and shoot him in the air". It's probably not going to work like that as I'm imagining the different possibilities rather than getting them from actual instruction or information, but it still looks fun.

That boss is way too much of a bullet-sponge, though. No idea why they decided that was a good idea.

I really can't help but wonder if everyone cheering at the game's collector's editions and all are at all aware that this is just one episode. In fact, it sounded like Yoshinori Kitase basically outright said "This is just Midgar".

Everyone's going to pay $60 for what isn't even 1/3rd of the original game.

No gameplay, either. I'm waiting for the catch. New characters and regions free? No loot boxes? No pay-to-win? Okay, so what are the microtransactions, because there's no way they're going to support a $60 base-game with that much content without an additional revenue stream (unless the Sony exclusive content is that very revenue stream).

I liked what I saw, it looks neat, and I like the idea of four-player co-op Avengers, but I needed more than what they gave.

Everyone here burying the news that Final Fantasy VIII is getting ported. Oninaki releases August 22nd. Romancing SaGa 3 releasing in the West (including on the Vita!) and... another SaGa game whose name I forget (that one's not on the Vita).

Was really hoping to see Babylon's Fall, but nope. This press conference was really about three things: FFVII-Remake, FFXIV: Shadowbringers, and Marvel's Avengers, the next three big money-makers they have set up. Everything else is just padding, but it was delightful padding compared to the absolutely predictable AAA E3 we've had so far.

EDIT: Oh yeah, there's that War of the Visions tactical RPG releasing on unspecified platform. Is it safe to assume that's also a mobile game?

They need to remaster Xenogears already. Just pay off whoever they need to and do it.

Even though I also think it looks neat, and there's an undeniable thrill in seeing characters that mean a lot to me all gussied up and looking purty, I share this fear and cynicism. And for some additional cynicism, up until the last bits of the extended trailer, it didn't escape my notice that everything they had shown is from the first 15 to 20 minutes of the game--parts of the extended trailer showed stuff from hour 2, and environments from, like, 3 to 4.

And get the hell outta here Aeris clutching at Cloud in a panic. Girl had nerves of steel.

Werd.

The Avengers looks like it could be okay, but it doesn't look like it'll even begin to fill in the Marvel Heroes shaped hole in my heart.

I can't like that enough, ccesarano!

So the villain in Avengers is Taskmaster. Imagine if all those hoops he made Spider-Man jump through was to gather data on how to defeat the Avengers.

Anyone trying the pre-order beta for the Avengers game right now on ps4? If so hit me up, I'd love to give the co-op a go.

Haven't started yet but got it loaded up. I'll ping you if I see you on and I'm ready for the co-op stuff.
