E3 2019: Nintendo Conference [June 11, 12:00PM EST]

What isn't there to look forward to? Luigi's Mansion 3 is going to be playable, so we know we not only get new gameplay, but we probably get a release date. Bayonetta 3 footage? Maybe! Everyone looking forward to Animal Crossing? You'll be getting your trailer!

Of course, it's also all about the Treehouse. New gameplay for Fire Emblem: Three Houses, Astral Chain, Link's Awakening, Pokemon Sword and Shield, and whatever else they got up their sleeve all on display there.

I normally talk about Nintendo being best for last, but Nintendo is basically why I look forward to E3 every year, and this one is going to be great.

Honestly, in the same boat as Ccesarano. I carry jaded skepticism for most of the presentations, but once Nintendo comes on I'm a starry-eyed child filled with wonder and hope.

I'm normally all about Nintendo, but I've been in a funk with them the last couple years. I'm used to buying a new first-party game from them every month or two, but it's been maybe a year since I last did.

Their Wii U ports are smart from a business standpoint, and there's a huge audience that hasn't played them yet, but for those of us who did stick with them on that platform, those ports are hard to get excited about.

At the same time, I only really don't like three of Nintendo's vast stable of properties, but those three happen to be Smash Bros, Pokémon, and Animal Crossing. With the first two of those and Wii U ports dominating the last year, and with Animal Crossing and Pokémon (sigh, again) setup as their tent poles for the year ahead, I'm in the unusual position for me of wanting Nintendo to really wow me and win me back.

Show me something unexpected! Show me that Fire Emblem isn't a creepy-ass Persona clone. Show me that Luigi's Mansion has some gas in the tank. Show me that your third-party partnerships are going to make something really great. Show me that the company that made Kid Icarus and Code Name Steam and Art Academy and Nintendoland and Game & Wario and Rhythm Heaven and Sakura Samurai is still in there somewhere.

I'm all aboard the Mario Maker train (toot toot!) but otherwise, I'm a really loyal and vocal fan without a place to hang my hat. If this show is just more Smash and more Pokémon forever and ever, I'm going to be greatly disappointed.

You know, Clock, I bounced off every iteration of Smash I tried until this last one. I decided that now that I had some live-in couch competitors, I was going to get into it come hell or high water.

And you know, I bounced right off of this one, too, the first day we fired it up. However, I'd already bought it, and my kids were game to try again, so we persevered. After a few session, I was genuinely enjoying myself!

Now, if and when I need it, I've got the gaming party complement to Mario Kart I always hoped Smash would be.

I put a good deal of time and effort into "getting" Smash on Wii U. I get why people like it, and I'm grateful for what it is, but it does nothing for me. ARMS is the better of Nintendo's fighting games, in my opinion, but it doesn't seem to have caught on.

Hopes: Reveals for a new Pikmin and Fantasy Life. Announcement of Mother 3 localization.
Expectations: Musou game reveals for all of the above.

Really though, I'm hoping that we hear something about a new Zelda or 3D Mario game. Mario Odyssey 2 maybe? I'm also hoping to see more on Astral Chains and Bayonetta 3.

Same, except I enjoy Smash. I also am surprisingly looking forward to Pokemon. And Animal Crossing. I'm stoked they exist but none of them do anything new and interesting. Just updated versions of themselves, which is cool.

None of the upcoming stuff is wowing me like their games did for the Wii U. I'm hoping for the Switch's Splatoon, a game I never knew I wanted. Not another Yoshi game.

I'm thankful for the Switch, but I'm mostly playing indie games. And that's cool.

Mario Maker 2 looks absolutely dope, but it too is a refinement.

1st world problems and all that.

I still want a follow-up to Super Mario 3D World. I'd even accept a port just to get more exposure for that game.

I don't think we'll see any Zelda other than the remake of Link's Awakening, but I'd love a BotW follow-up.

Sakurai already confirmed the next DLC fighter is going to be in the Nintendo Direct, so that's going to take up presentation time.

I'm optimistic about Nintendo's showing this year, I really want to like Pokemon as I've never ever played one & similarly with Animal Crossing I'm not really sure why people adore it so much but willing to see if it peaks my interest.

Last year I thought Nintendo had one of the weakest E3 conferences in memory just in terms of the types of games shown (Smash Bros does nothing for me) so I'm expecting way more this time around. I have fond memories of Luigi's Mansion back on the Gamecube, the art style & the scooby doo type atmosphere are really charming so anything on the sequel is welcome. Links Awakening remake looks great, really in the mood for an old school style Zelda with a new lick of paint & perhaps new mechanics.

I would love to see a tease of a brand new Mario Kart but since 8 is still selling ridiculously well I can't see them needing to go near that franchise until the end of the Switch's lifecycle.

I'll definitely take a new Pikmin, one of the gems of the Gamecube generation that would be perfect on the Switch.

One thing I'd really appreciate it is Ori & The Blind Forest announced for the Switch since this Microsoft partnership is beginning to bloom.

Lastly I'd love them to show a new IP, something completely different, maybe from the Splatoon devs.

Pikmin 3 port release date would be nice to have.

:D

2013 Wii U game or bust!

Spoiler:

My money is on Super Mario 3D World to fulfill the prophecy. I mean, there's a whole mode in Mario Maker 2 that's based on 3D World, but you can't play that game on the Switch? It's obvious.

I think Nintendo is the king of left field so I’m looking forward to being surprise

Only interested in Pokemon I think - never played a Pokemon game before. But hopefully there are some new surprises.
Was hoping to be interested in Fire Emblem, but everything have seen has made me not interested.

Sabi was killing it with the leaks too, but then you get too big...

This is my biggest gaming wish. I don’t play much on the PS4 any longer. I mostly play Switch or 3DS.

And lately I am mostly playing stuff like Fantasy Life, Animal Crossing or London Life (the game inside the Layton game).

I would really love another town simulation game by Brownie Brown.

We've had Pokemon, Fire Emblem, and Mario Maker 2 updates recently, so not sure if we hear much on those. And since Metroid Prime 4 recently got restarted, I don't think that will be in either.

We should find out the next Smash DLC character, but not sure if they are going to announce any of the others yet.

My guess is that Animal Crossing makes an appearance, and we see more on the Links' Awakening remake. Not sure that's enough to do a whole conference on, so there's probably some Amiibo announcements and other things that I'm not thinking of right now. Probably more indie games making their way over.

My sleeper pick is Town, Game Freak's new non-Pokemon game. That got teased sometime last year, and it's due for a resurface.

Spoiler:

I wanted to suggest a new F Zero game, but I couldn't even type it with a straight face. That would be maybe the biggest surprise at this point, since the franchise has been dead in the water outside Smash since the gamecube

I literally came into the thread because I remembered this game and was wondering how likely it was to show up in the direct!

Gotta make this a strong one so we don’t get a 2020 release date.

I'm hoping for info on new Switch models.

I have no expectations, but I'd kill for some kinda BoTW spin-off.

This can be arranged...meet me out back

Dark Crystal tactics? Who the hell saw that coming?

Link Awakening and Borderlands within the same week. So long September!

Witcher 3 port is real. I'm shocked that was possible on Switch.

Nope. Do not want to do that.

Anything is possible at 5 frames per second!

Links Awakening in September. Things are starting to look crowded.

Looks like the DQ Hero(s) are confirmed for the next DLC character. That's been the rumor for months, so no real surprise there.

The Bowser-in-a-tie bit when introducing Doug Boswer was actually pretty fun. Doug seems reasonably charismatic and doesn't seem too stiff, even if he's no Reggie.

The Link's Awakening remake looks like it has a few new sidequests that weren't in the original. I'm not there yet with the artstyle, though. However, I really want to hear what they do with the soundtrack, especially Tal Tal heights.

Witcher 3 on the Switch was a surprise.

I was wrong about the new Fire Emblem not showing up, but we just got a bit of story and not much else.

FE will have tons of screen time with Treehouse.
