Hidden Gems of Netflix's Watch Instantly

Another vote for Street Food. Brilliant.

Binged Dead to Me with the GF. I enjoyed the writing, and of course Christina Applegate playing opposite Linda Cardellini is fun. It's an interesting dark dramedy. I can't wait for the next season - assuming there is one.

Just finished this myself, and was impressed how it managed to be darkly funny and also still have a heart. Not that I know much about script writing but it must be such a difficult tightrope to walk! I was a bit disappointed by the ending though - it's not the kind of show that lends itself to multiple seasons IMO.

Always Be My Maybe was very good. If you're looking for a RomCom check this one out.

Great news, everyone!

Dead to Me renewed for Season 2.

Yeah, I enjoyed it too. The leads are great, the soundtrack is pretty good, and Keanu Reeves is completely ridiculous.

I finally watched about half of Love Death + Robots. You guys were not wrong about the gratuitous sex and nudity.

Three Robots is the best so far. And one that I will rewatch with my wife.

I thought Sonnie's Edge was still good despite the nudity.

Should have skipped The Witness like some of you recommended. The animation had some nice touches: Splashes of color with footsteps running, breathing on the camera, blurring some actions, etc. But the story and the violence and nudity, ugh. Not worth it.

Suits was pretty cool all around. Probably another that my wife will actually enjoy.

Sucker of Souls had a nice Indiana Jones vibe.

Yogurt was just weird. The voice being Brain from Pinky and the Brain kept messing with me too.

Aquila Rift was ok. Expected twist. But yes some issues with the non consensual sex that was covered before.

Good Hunting... I don't know. Magic and steampunk and lots of nudity and violence and fox tails. Not my cup of tea.

The Dump was ok. Expected twist.

Shape Shifters was cool. I'd like to see more of that character. Not sure what commentary they were going for on war.

Helping Hand was good. Slight bit of gore might keep my wife from enjoying it.

Fish Night. WTF? Beautiful stuff but I took a break after that.

excellent news!

What's the non consensual sex in Aquila Rift?

Spoiler:

Is it because the dude didn't know he was in a virtual world and having mind sex with an alien?

Yeah it was discussed way back in this thread. I think pages 490-493 all had some back and forth about the series.

I think that's the gist of it, yes.

If you've not seen it, I highly recommend Baby Driver It's a little predictable but the characters are handled well and the ending isn't quite what I was expecting. Superb soundtrack too, which is kinda the point to a lot of it.

be warned Kevin Spacey is in it (pre-scandal)

Wow, that was fast! Hope it can live up to the first season, although I'm not really sure where they go from here.

And finished Love, Death + Robots last night.

Loved Lucky 13. Don't want to spoil. Just a fun story and not too graphic.

Zima Blue was a cool twist. Another that my wife should enjoy. Fun art style.

Blind Spot might be Fast & Furious 20 or so. Fun enough.

Ice Age was a lot of fun. Also 2 actors that I usually enjoy. Really enjoyed this one and want to watch again.

Alternating Histories was wacky. And some kooky nudity thrown in because. I don't know. Some of it was really funny though.

Secret War. I may have to watch again. Last one of the night and I was nodding off a bit. Seemed interesting the bits I saw.

So overall more good than bad. Glad they made these. Should have listened to others and skipped a couple that turned out to not be worth it.

New black mirror out

Yeah thought it was Friday but surprise saw it on my phone at lunch.

Only 3 episodes but I'll probably watch them all tonight.

Watched the first episode of Black Mirror season 5. Falcon also has America's ass. I give it 9 out of 10, the episode not falcon's ass which was a solid 10.

Black Mirror is the one show that I can't binge. I find I always need a little break between episodes to maintain my sanity.

You should watch Chernobyl then!

Seriously, actually, it's really good -- worth a month's subscription to HBO. But oooof, yeah, NOT recommended for binge viewing. Far, far too heavy.

I watched 4 epsidoes of Chernobyl in one day and only didn't watch 5 because it wasn't out yet. No telly has been that good for a very long time.

Watched Black Mirror season 5 episode 2 and thought it had a rough start. Then it got better toward the middle. The ending didn't land with me. I mean the very last seconds. I can see why they ended like it did but tend to hate endings like this one.

This story seems like something that can happen in real life. Consider all the recent uber/lift horror stories of late. I'd give this one 7 out of 10.

It's incredible and well worth the watch.

Agreed.

Also the only one I watched last night. Good stuff.

As a gamer and programmer it did nag me a bit...

Spoiler:

Why would a fighting game be programmed for sexual simulation? You can't just do anything in a game, there are rules.

But still it wasn't really about the tech.

Watched the first two Black Mirrors. Yeah I think they have run out of ideas. They were both well acted but neither justifed an hour run time, espeically since they didn't explore anything to do with the themes it threw up, like questions regarding sexualitly/gender ect.

Then the second one was just an hour long

Spoiler:

Don't use your phone while driving advert

Regarding the 2nd ep:

Spoiler:

I thought it was interesting seeing how the tech company knew more about the dude than the police did. I think it would have been more interesting if they had played up the big data angle more.

Yeah, that would have been a lot more interesting. It felt like they were trying to go there, but maybe didn't know how to do it. So, they fell back on the obvious message and plotline.

I'm surprised by just how inconsistent Black Mirror is. The production values and acting are usually great, and every so often there's a stunningly great episode, but the showrunners often don't seem to hone in on the interesting dilemma or they fail to stick the landing.

I feel for them though. It's got to be tough to keep up their production schedule.

Edit: The Miley Cyrus episode was really good. The reworkings of NIN's Head Like A Hole were hilarious. Two solid episodes out of three.

I quite enjoyed I Am Mother.

Watched I am Mother and liked it. There are only three or two people in the movie depending on if you count robots. The movie didn't go where I thought it would. The robot looked pretty good. The story was okay. Acting was good. Robot was believable.

The trailer isn't a good representation of the movie. There are things in the trailer that has the same screen time in the movie. So if you saw something cool in the trailer hoping to see more of it in the movie you will be disappointed.

I think the title is a reference to another movie but I could be wrong. The movie didn't really sell it enough if that is what they were going for.

Anyway its worth a watch.

Good, added that to my list so pleased it has some good reviews.

Finished S2 of Happy!, more batsh*t mental craziness but to me it ran out of steam later in the series. If there is to be a 3rd series I'm not sure I'd be that bothered.

Good news! You don't have to worry about that.
