Xbox One Catch-all

Assassin's Creed Odyssey and Origins on X-Box are basically the same price, and Amazon Prime is having a $10 off coupon on video games and peripherals...any huge preferences, or are they both pretty good?

Where is this coupon?

Ahh, i didn't get that one. Been looking for a sale on WWZ.

Odyssey is marked down to $15 for PS4 at my grocery store, but I hadn't looked at the XBone price. I'll check it out tonight after I see Endgame, if anyone's interested at that price.

This seems to be an "emergency service" where you get 10% off to have it delivered same or next day, but you pay that much for the privilege. Pass.

So my 4tb seagate external seemingly crashed out and won't read. Anyone have any experience/idea if is worth fixing? Thank FSM for the cloud as all my saves are not lost, just a bit of convenience.

If it's in warranty send it in otherwise just replace it.

It is out:(

Is it making weird noises or just not mounting? I had one fail and it ended up being the power supply. I was able to take the case apart and use the actual drive through a sata dock.

I'd assumed you had gone through testing. If not try unplugging it from the xbox for 10 minutes and do a restart on the xbox through the system settings then plug back in. Also try on another device.

Have tried unplugging, resetting, and trying on another device. It powers up but is unreadable.

It may be as simple as the sata interface or usb interface has worn out. Since it's already a lost cause, you might want to do some surgery, take out the actual drive and find new housing for it.

I am known for my looks, not my technical prowess. A new HD may be in my future.

Spoiler:

I am know for looking goofy. That is just my face.

And that might very well be true but pop that sucker open and swap out the internal HDDs and you might get all your stuff back.

Because of the magic of the cloud, I have lost nothing! I just have to reinstall the games to the internal HD, but all my saves are up in la-la-land.

So I'm just going to leave this here

ElectricPi wrote:

that better add to Sally's GD gamerscore or he won't import it.

You’ll be alright once you get your new HDD. Oh, and the 10 days that you will have to wait for 4TB to download.

Just curious. How long did you have your drive before it died?

About a year and a half. I have had a 2 TB seagate for about 5 years with zero issue. Kinda bummed it went sour, honestly.

That's just the nature of spinning drives. Can't wait for the day when SSD drive prices make spinning platters obsolete.

We keep chasing that dragon but I’m not sure we will ever catch it. Spinning plates might always be cheaper. Unless some tech revolution takes off... like nano?

In my opinion the gap is closing fast since SSD improvements are rapid while HDD technology is stagnant. 1 TB SSDs are relatively cheap. We have 2+TB SSDs and XL mainstream magnetic drives have been stuck in the 10-12 TB range for a couple years. It doesn't feel that long ago when SSDs were for "operating system only".

No lie. I want that stuff. Sounds glorious

Yeah SSD’s are nice but still expensive relative to price per GB. What’s worse is game sizes for many AAA titles are north of 100GB making a 1TB SSD fill up quick.

There’s a reason I still have an 8TB external HD connected via USB to my Xbox One X.

A 4 TB SSD cost about the same as a 16 TB HDD right now, around $600. SSD is catching up. 8 TB drives seem to be at the cost vs size sweet spot right now. I bought like 4 of them last year for my server. I bought a 7200 RPM 3 TB USB3 HDD for my Xbox a few years ago and have been very happy with it.

Large XB1 games and the small XB1 memory footprint tends to result in a far higher duty cycle on drives as the games are continually streaming from the disk vs playing the same game on a PC, so its not uncommon for external drive lifetimes to be considerably shorter unfortunately

Anyone pick up WWZ yet? It is fun!

So Microsoft is calling an end to the porting efforts of the Backwards Compatibility team and they are no longer going to be adding Xbox One X enhancements to already BC supported games. The team will be switching gears to ensure that all the games and apps that currently run on Xbox One will run on Scarlett. They do have a few more games in the pipeline though.

Disappointed that they won't be bring more stuff to Xbox One. Was hoping they would get the Mech Assault games, but glad to see the original Splinter Cell Trilogy (plus the OG Xbox version of Double Agent which is a completely different game compared to the 360 version).

Oh one funny note from that post:

As a final thank you to the community, we are bringing Too Human to the Backward Compatibility catalog and are making it available digitally to everyone for free.

Yea they have to give it away for free because they can't legally sale that game anymore after the Epic verses Silicon Knights lawsuits.

That was such a decent game. It is a shame that the legal situation means it can go no further.
