I hate it but at least this year the 2nd seats at Ferrari and Merc are putting up a fight. Hopefully they continue to make it fun.
I think those are the fights to watch. Ferrari just isnt at the level Mercedes is at. And I think the issue is more organizational than actual performance.
Practice: Ferrari looks quick this weekend
Qualifying: Mercedes front row lockout
34th verse, same as the first. Bottas making a real go of it this season though.
Nice to see the Red Bull car on the 2nd row this week.
When they roll out the spending cap, hopefully it will close the competition gap.
Something I thought of while looking at the calendar this year: I'm extra-impressed with what the drivers and their teams do, considering that the travel schedule has to mess with their sleep schedules. I know they put two weeks between races, generally (save for a few that are much closer together, geographically) but the jet lag from some of the travel must be absolutely brutal.
Until funding and development caps are put in place, its unlikely to change. In 2018 I think the top two each spent $300m on developing the cars, the others average around $25m. On a high tech endeavor like this, deep pockets count.
Oh, I assumed it was bad, but I didn't know it was that bad. Sheesh.
It seriously feels like it has gotten to the point where Mercedes and Ferrari aren't even really competing with the other teams most of the time, which isn't super great for the sport.
Still love it, though.
Does anyone know the budget differences in years past? I'm fairly new to f1 starting in the Merc era.
Here you will find the first of a two part article taking you through their budgets, and here is the second part.
Clearly a massive performance gap exists between the ‘big three’ – Mercedes, Ferrari and Red Bull – and the rest. No team outside this trio has won a grand prix in the 100 races since FOM (then under the control of CVC Capital partners) began making its inequitable team payments. This is reflected in the size of their budgets.
Keee-rist.
LOL, well, was funny seeing Grosjean spend half the race going off the track.
Mercedes looking unbeatable, Ferrari.... my God what's going on there?
Ferrari is completely lost. It's incredibly sad to watch.
Less Kimi, more Charles? Matte paint job?
Ferrari looked great last year until Seb decided he really, really liked to pirouette.
Help us Obi Wan Horner, you're our last remaining hope ... although I've always thought him to be a dangerous, albeit very skilled driver, have to take my hat off to Verstappen; hell of a drive with a car so down on power compared to the other two.
I would watch more racing than F1 if other series made it as easy to do. Formula E is all on YouTube, which is cool. And the first W Series race made it on there as well, if not as legitimately.
But man, where is specmiata.tv? Or wrc.tv? TT.tv.... I'd watch those for sure!
Yeah.
RIP, Niki.

He'll be missed, good to see Lewis say no to all the hacks wanting immediate reaction b-roll about it. Time for Netflix to start showing the Rush and Senna movies maybe (both excellent btw).

I watched them both on Netflix, did they drop them off?

I was looking for Rush in all of the online streaming services yesterday and I cannot find it. You can rent it from Amazon.
