Splatoon 1 & 2 & 3

Does this mean we will finally get decent voice chat for Splatoon?

This is the hardest Splatfest decision I personally have ever faced. But I chose, and my choice is pancakes.

Is the level of competition insanely high in the 15 minutes before a Splatfest starts, or am I just getting worse at this game?

That is verrrry difficult. On their own, with just butter and syrup, I think I'd give an edge to waffles. Also, only one of them gets paired with fried chicken to form something delicious that we self-deceivingly refer to as a balanced meal.

However! At my house we usually add stuff to our pancakes. We started with chocolate chips, then added peanut butter chips, and recently discovered that they make cinnamon chips, too! That pushes pancakes over the top, for me.

I think you've touched the heart of the matter. I do like to add roasted cacao nibs to my waffles, but chocolate chips melt too easily and then burn on the iron, and fruit is similarly out of the question. I made pancakes yesterday and I stirred some frozen blueberries into the batter, yum.

Waffles have the edge in the leftovers department, though. I freeze my extras and reheat them in the toaster (broken into one quarter per slot), and they're as crispy as ever. Reheated pancakes don't quite measure up.

Anyway I've been getting my butt kicked fighting for pancakes today. I'm definitely rusty.

This is 100% correct. We actually do exactly the same thing with leftover waffles!

Frozen waffles are fab. Great go-to mornings when you want something warm, but don't want to prep.

I missed this Splatfest... yet another. I LOVE Splatoon. Just think I went too hard, too fast with this one at launch.

It's technically too late for this month, but I propose from here on we engage in Second Splaturdays. Every second Saturday of the month we hop on Discord or something and play some Splatoon 2. This way some of us can be encouraged to keep playing even after the final SplatFest.

Also: I never seem to even find out when a SplatFest is taking place these days. I didn't realize there was a pancake/waffle one until you all were playing it already.

I'd be down for that. I still like Splatoon, even if I've gotten away from it to move on to other things. Playing with some GWJers would be a fantastic excuse to go back.

Yeah then maybe I wouldn't suck so much during splatfest if I played a little between them.

I get pretty frustrated and quit before I get decent rewards.

Do folks want to try for a Second Splaturday on the 9th? And where should we convene for voice chat?

I'm down, although I'm only available in the morning and maybe early afternoon, and possibly late in the evening that day.

I don't use voice chat a whole lot, so I'll leave that for others to decide where they want to go. For a novelty, we could try the Nintendo app.

Actually the next SplatFest was just announced. Knights vs. Wizards is the global theme for March 16th and 17th. I'll try to remember to play some, but as usual the timing is rather rough. I'll have just gotten Caligula Effect: Overdose that Tuesday.

Well, do we want to push back the Second Splaturday a week to grab the splatfest and maybe some more people, or still try to find a time that works for tomorrow?

I think try for the SplatFest instead. I'll also cross-post to the Switch Catch-All in case people aren't paying attention to this one.

Got it. It'll also give me a chance to brush back up (heh) over the next week.

It's good to play in the lead up to splatfest if you want to earn some cheap abilty tokens.

I played through the Octo Expansion a couple of weeks ago and had a great time with it. Really glad I picked it up. Imo it's a step up from the main single-player content. I enjoyed it so much that I made a point to do everything and get all the collectibles. I also loved the finale, it's just so...hype! It's fun playing as Agent 8 in the main game too, cause I feel like they're an actual character now as opposed to a random squid that I threw together.

I'd really recommend the Expansion to anyone who enjoys single player Splatoon. It's probably be good for anyone who likes Splatoon, cause it forces you to work on really specific skills. And did I mention that the finale is great?

Kept waiting for it to go on sale.

Or a complete version sale so I can sell my cart back and always have it available.

So much this. Switching cards when I just want to play a quick round or two is more of a buzzkill than I expected.

Well, would anyone be interested in getting together for Second Splaturdays next Saturday? It was discussed for March but didn't happen.

And man, the soundtrack for this game is really good. Especially the splatfest songs. I've been listening to it some over the past week, and I'm impressed how catchy they made some of the songs, and how distinctive they made the voices and personalities of Marina and Pearl (had to look up the names) in their 'singing.'

Yeah, I'm awful at leading the charge on things. I won't be able to make next Saturday.

Logged in this morning to get all those free gear items from the news story. That was nice.

Splatfest choice is already up: Tortoise vs Hare.

Played a little Grizzco, since new gear for April.

Looks like another splatfest this weekend. Which power would you rather have: time travel or teleportation?

Neither, jeebus! Time travel can destroy your own life or those of your loved ones with paradoxes, etc. Teleportation just sends a photocopy of you somewhere else, your consciousness / soul doesn't go with it.

If you must insist on an answer, it might be safe to time travel into the future, but the future might suck. I suppose it's safe to teleport inanimate objects if you don't mind the risk of failure to materialize properly.

What sci-fi did you read where this is the case because I'd actually be intrigued to read it myself.

It's not in the marketing materials, I assure you. I can't recall a specific source, but teleportation has definitely been described as people being ripped apart and then rematerialized elsewhere. I believe in Star Trek it operates using similar technology to the replicator, fwiw. The visuals are very similar.

Imho teleportation that disappeared a solid person and reappeared them elsewhere would have to be considered magic.

Now, if we posit that wormholes are real and do move objects incredibly quickly, and if we can someday create temporary custom wormholes, and if people could safely travel through them, that might constitute a workable teleportation substitute.

Alpha Centauri!

Now why did they schedule a Splatfest and a Tetris 99 event against each other?

Final SplatFest is July 18th through 21st, pitting Chaos vs. Order. The theory is that, much like the final SplatFest of the first game impacted a narrative element of Splatoon 2, this will impact Splatoon 3.

Perhaps the most noteworthy news is that Private SplatFests will be available in July as well, though not entirely certain how that's supposed to work.

I'm hoping to get back into this and Smash Bros. more often soon. I gotta test some things with my new set-up. Maybe we can arrange some game nights like I was originally hoping to do before.

Why are they ending it? We can’t be that close to Splatoon 3.

If I recall, Splatoon 1 had its final SplatFest the year before Splatoon 2 released? So it would be the same amount of time between games.

I think the question is whether Splatoon 3 is necessary or not. That's what seems odd to me. I guess we'll find out.
